Right, I've driven myself fucking crazy with this bastard. There's a major TL:DR below, but I will put an actual TD;DR on the bottom

Basically this is my old laptop. An Acer Aspire 4810tz. I need to get it working again, as it plays games better than my newer laptop (that one doesn't have a bloody ethernet port, for fucks sake.)

It has two graphics cards:
• An Intel 45 Express Chipset one
• An AMD Radeon 4300 HD one.

I'm about 30% sure it's got something physically wrong with it, because it gets very hot. I melted the motherboard, but that got replaced. It's obviously out of warranty now so if it has then I'm gonna have to just deal with it.

It was playing up so I bought a system disc and put Win 7 64bit on it.
I gave it to my boyfriend, he put shitloads of dodgy suspect programs that "help" your PC in someway. and removed the antivirus because "NOD is shit" and forgot to put another one on it (:_(. Then dropped it.
When Installing shit on it, I every once in a while the screen would flicker (like it does when I switch graphics card or when you do video tests in games) then I'd get a message in the corner of my screen saying something like "Graphics Display Driver (Vista) has something something something (regarding it crashing basically) and has recovered. "

I was like "Right I'll go put all the drivers on, that's what I was gonna do anyway." Many of the drivers were being dicks and saying they weren't the right ones for the laptop, pretty damn sure they were (though I was hanging out with the MoonPals *yawn* when I was doing this, so I may have just been too high to notice they weren't *yawn* .). I believe that the Intel drivers successfully installed. And the graphics drivers worked fine, there were a couple that didn't but I was working it out :D.

Then my boyfriend saw I was having some trouble getting some of the drivers, and he insisted he could do it in like 5 minutes. He used some driver-finding software that [sarcasm]totally wasn't just "trial-spend-all-your-money-have-some-viruses-too"-ware.[/sarcasm] He put it on and it fixed the wireless, but everything else was fucked. I promptly removed the software.

The flicky thing returned, and the Display window (The Screen Resolution page) said it had two monitors. I reinstalled both drivers (Intel and AMD) and it seemed to go away but then I realised it was only gone because the AMD driver was disabled. The AMD driver is the better one, so I clicked enable. It went batshit. No display at all and it took me fucking ages to disable again.

I tried loads of different shit to get it to work (several times each method really, I'm a bit Autistic like that). And it worked! I don't know what, I don't know why. But it did. Cool I can now play Diablo! The Intel Driver has stopped showing that crash too!

Turned it on today and same problem. No Display, other one still crashing.

What. The. Fuck. Am I doing wrong? Can someone who actually understands computers and drivers and shit help me?

TL:DR:
• Two drivers - Intel 45 express Chipset, AMD Radeon HD 4300
• Reinstalled PC, put new graphics drivers on. Was okay.
• Put other drivers on it. The other drivers were successful. Was probably okay.
• Let boyfriend near it. Was no longer okay.
• Came up with two monitors in the Screen Resolution screen. I googled it and did something to fix that, I don't believe it was serious (certainly not driver related)
• Intel graphics card keeps prompting Windows to tell me something along the lines of "Graphics Display Driver for Vista has crashed and recovered" (multiple times but not that frequent).
• AMD card doesn't work at all:
• It was automatically disabled
• When I enabled it, it didn't display anything (and that was a bitch to fix cuz it kept it enabled on bootup ¬¬)
• Spent several hours following the instructions of shitloads of semi-related fixes on random forums on the Internet. Was okay again.
• Played Diablo (which proves the AMD card worked as the Intel one cannot run it - you get an error saying it doesn't mean min specs.)
• Turned the laptop off when I went to sleep (there were windows updates, but its been doing that every time I turn it off, new install)
• Went to play Diablo today. Didn't work. AMD card was auto disabled, just a black display.
• FixitFixitFixitFixitFixitFixit.

NOTE: I'm a bit pants with computers so I may not have given enough information. Feel free to laugh at and/or berate me. I just want to play Diablo.

The most likely issue is with heat. Your card will disable itself to avoid overheating and melting down. Since you noted that it gets hot and you've melted a motherboard already, this is likely the first thing to look at.

Try cleaning your fan. if that doesn't help you should replace the fan. If you can keep the laptop cooler with a working fan the card won't shut off and you can run Diablo, huzzah!

Second possibility is your video card is going bad. Would have to be defective or pretty old though.

Lastly, don't let your boyfriend near the laptop anymore.

Your laptop is overheating; it also has a fan built in, and BIOS coders always seem to leave the fan off until the laptop starts frying. So you need to take everything in your own hands and pump up the fans manually. Try install a tool like Speedfan to control the fan speed of both the chassis, CPU, and GPU. Turn every fan up to 100%. It'll be noisy, but it'll also run cool.

Get a laptop cooling pad also to fight the heat. Or get a cheap computer bundle from Newegg :P

Whilst I agree that it is overheating, I don't think it is the cause. If it was surely the AMD card would not be disabled on startup, as it hasnt had time to overheat yet.

I did open it up and de-gank the fans tho, I hadn't really put much thought into the fans. They're turning so I have to assume they work. It didn't change anything.

@Katsu, youve just fixed the other problem I have with this laptop. No more burns from prolonged lap exposure to the heat! I dont care if it growls, that doesnt hurt.

@Compy, I tried, but the laptop starting slinging shit everywhere and demanding its fix. I'm a bad person, I got my laptop addicted to meth :(

I think theres some weird setting somewhere fucking with it now. Somehow (Ive tried a lot of things, I dont know what fixed it), it now works. But only when the laptop is plugged in. The second you unplug it the display goes and it shuts down all open applications. This wasnt a default setting of the laptop originally, you could use either whenever.
