Can someone explain the Vtuber phenomenon to me, please?

Subject. I really don’t get it and some of their success baffles me. Casting my bias against anime aside, I’ve tried to watch some clips of more successful Vtubers that have been linked to me and it has all been loud shrieking, cel-shaded character with dead-eyed stare and huge tits (usually), and the thing sways around like it’s possessed. I’ve tried to go to the Vtuber thread for answers but lol.

Any clarification is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

It's just a way for men to cash in on that e-thot money,
Yeah, the craziest part is that most Vtubers are actually men, and many fans know it (I think).
And the whole idea of watching videos of a rando playing video games is weird enough, watching a rando impersonating an anime girl playing video games is even weirder.

I'll attempt to give a serious and a needlessly autistically detailed answer. I sincerely apologize in advanced. (TL;DR at bottom)

It comes down to two main parts: Why they're fucking everywhere all of the sudden, and why people watch it.

The vtuber "boom"
Vtubing was a thing for many years pre 2019/2020 but the technology was niche and not as refined nor was it as user friendly as it is today. The financial barrier for entry was worse due to hardware and software costs combined with few people knowing how to actually rig these vtuber models/avatars.

Streaming was also not quite as mainstream as it is currently, thus making it harder to recoup the cost through donations after dropping $5,000+ to turn yourself into a anime girl.

But around roughly late 2019 to 2020 vtuber technology started becoming more accessible to the typical person and internet streaming was becoming even more popular. This caused a snowball effect of vtubers appearing and working their way into the spotlight of the internet

The new influx of vtubers drove other people to become interested in vtubing which increased the demand for better and more accessible vtuber technology. Supply was increased to meet the new demand which in turn allowed even more people to become vtubers thanks to the ever increasing accessibility, thus creating a vicious circle of endless autism.

Whereas before vtubing was a more technologically advanced and financially demanding thing, now pretty much anyone with a workable PC, a webcam and at least 1 functioning braincell can download free software, free vtuber assets and troon out to become the kawaii anime girl they always wanted to be.

Why do people watch vtubers?
There's no one thing. It simply comes down to different people like different things for different reasons. Anime is a good example. A lot of people love it, a lot of people want to strangle those who love it and don't comprehend why they like it. Neither side is incorrect; it just comes down to personal preference.

I watch vtubers because I find some of them entertaining, some of them I like the design of their characters, some of them I like their personality and so on.

For example:
I like Mogii for her character design

I find Melody's passive retardation endearing and I enjoy her big voluptuous personality

Lilyhops is an adorable tranny

Nemu's voice is kino
If you don't see the appeal its probably because you're a normal well adjusted individual which makes our level of autism utterly incomprehensible to those trying to make sense of it.

TL;DR:
Q: Why are vtubers everywhere all of the sudden?
A: Streaming has become more popular than ever, vtubing technology has also become much more accessible lately which caused a snowball effect of new vtubers

Q: Why do people like this shit?
A: Because we're trash

Before reading your post I was blissfully unaware of the existence of this ... stuff.
I watched your samples.
I read your word salad.
I don't think there's enough apologies in existence to cover this.
I remember when Gundam started doing some videos with a cartoon thing & well yeah stopped watching cause it was mega gay but this ... THIS is next level.
This is really just unexplainable. Unfathomable even.
