Can we finally cancel the Whedonverse now - He was a toxic nerd dick and Firefly wasn’t that great

Holy shit where to start with this asshole I guess his recent interview which was his attempt to address all the allegations against his behavior on sets that backfired?

You guys know Joss Whedon he made Buffy and Firefly and witty banter bullshit. But what you might not know was he was a nerdy loser who found fame and influence and GUESS WHAT he used it to bang his hottie stars and abuse them all while being married. He also took over for Zack Snyder on Justice League then blamed the guy playing Cyborg for not knowing how to act when no one else agreed ON MLK DAY because that was a smart move. In all Joss is a semi ‘woke’ white man who plays at the role for good boy points but will turn 360 and betray his principles over his ego and his dick any day of the week and now he is getting his comeuppance.

Yeah that’s right Joss Whedon actually thought he could threaten Gal Gadot because he made the Avengers. Loooooooollllllll

To make a vampire-slaying omelette you have to break a few eggs (women).

EDIT: Also, I rewatched Buffy and Angel last year because of the lockdown and forgot about this gem.

Never really understood why whedon's shows are looked at so highly, Buffy was a teenage soap opera for little girls and firefly was kind of meh.
To be fair a lot of us were teens at the time at oh my god making her bf a vampire with a soul who lost his soul when he came then she had to kill him but only when he got his soul back was so emotional guys was like PAINFUL

I never cared for Firefly myself, it was a "Space Western" but in the stupidest and most obvious ways, and it had the worst of Whedon's subversions of "cliches" in the dumbest ways possible - while also leaning heavily on other cliches as crutches.

I really hated the tin-eared dialogue in his work that tin-eared nerds praise, besides the non-stop quipping he used a lot of that faux-natural dialogue with an over-reliance on, ummmmm, like artificial pauses and awkwardness-thingies, and the worst sort of "As you know, Bob, as chief of police it's my job to police this town" style exposition where characters tell each other things they already know because the screenwriter is a knob who can't think of a better way to inform the audience of what's going on.

Plus let's not forget the sexual immaturity you'd expect from a prissy little bitch-man who went off to a private boys school and came to view women as the ones who would save him from all of the mean alpha males, and various creepy nerd issues with women in his work: for instance, in an episode of Firefly that was never produced he was going to feature the show's resident prostitute getting gang-raped by space cannibals, or rather the aftermath where they all get killed because she'd been shooting up with some sort of space-cure for a space-disease that would prove fatal to anyone who didn't have the disease. And finally, the captain would rescue her from the spaceship full of space-cannibal bodies and realize that slut-shaming sex-workers was wrong.

I’m surprised Joss hasn’t disowned Firefly, the big government is the bad guys and the main character was part of the “good guys” who were basically space Confederates

Because a lot of teenage girls saw Buffy and loved it.

That's it. That's all the explanation there is. Buffy was a teen girls' soap; teen girls saw it, loved it, grew up with fond memories of everything Joss. The clout Joss has (had?) is largely driven by female fans who grew up liking his work.

I dated a Whedonite, and as a result, have seen much of what he made - from Buffy to Angel to Dr Horrible. Even things only tangential to the Whedonverse, like Greg the Bunny.

Firefly wasn't great, no, but it was by far the most interesting thing Joss has done, if you're not a teenage girl. Sometimes Angel was OK, mostly because there was more kicking people and less snappy dialogue than in Buffy, but Firefly was a deep draught of water after the desert that was Whedon's other stuff.

Firefly is ok, but watching it today you can see the proto-woke themes just below the surface. If it had been made even six or seven years later it would have been dire.

Also everyone forgets about Dollhouse which was just 'Joss Whedon's Fetishes: the TV Show'.
