Can we turn off the chat that's on every page?

I don't regularly use the chat, and it seems to add a heavy enough JavaScript load that it locks up the web browser - and the whole server seems to freeze if you have multiple tabs open meaning multiple chat sessions. Is there a way to choose to turn it off on a user-by-user basis? I haven't found it in the settings.

You can just use your adblocker to filter the test-chat element, been doing that for a bit now

I enjoy sneed chatting but it always seems to crash when there are lots of people on the site. Maybe a button like "click here to load chat" instead of it loading for every single lurker automatically?

So... Keep posting images in chat and repeatedly crash the site until null makes chat opt-in?

If you have firefox as your phone browser, you can install ublock origin as an extension and add those elements into that filter list that way. I used to use Brave on my phone, but there wasn't an option for mobile filtering support the last time I used it, iirc. I don't think the native phone browsers support ublock origin. Maybe Chrome mobile does, but I don't use Chrome on my phone.

I just block chat.js and it works very well, is blocking the other things in your post better in some way?

They were what came up recently when I was doing some revamping of my browser setup. Probably doesn't make a difference, but I was trying to be thorough. The last two are just cosmetic filters.
