Somebody did a deep dive on this, I don't remember what thread exactly. Apparently it was slang in the gay erotica usenet scene from like 1995 onward, but didn't hit the mainstream until like 2020. It's more of an art than a science. If you tug your johnson, then ease up a bit to edge, then start going again how much time has to elapse between those things before it's considered another session? can you tug your johnson a bit on January 1st, then finish yourself off on January 1st of the next year and tell everybody you had a 365 day goon sesh or a no nut year? I'd argue that if you lose your erection it qualifies as the end of the session. So a pause is allowed but not so long that the lack of stimulation causes a floppy johnson.
