The new Belmont's Curse game looks like actual dog shit compared to everything before it and even compared to Dead Cells. This game shouldn't have been 3d. Jesus Christ.

Looks like a bad PS3 and 360 era game that'd be 10 bucks tops.
The colors don't pop at all, flames look like diluted piss, none of the gothic style is here even compared to the anime ds games, there's nothing here that catches my eye as a fan. They're doing the blacked out cross section style without the blending necessary for it like hollow knight did which makes it look even weirder and like some old mobile game.

This game looks like it's taking from the boring and generic Netflix anime.

I present you a random screenshot of bloodlines.

The developers have no excuse making Castlevania look as boring and like any modern game, as they have.

It really does look like a mediocre phone game and will likely get a port. If you disagree now, fuck you for not believing me when I've clocked everything bad about the game, if it fails in visual presentation it fails to live up to a legacy of 40 years.

Not reading all that shit when the whole thing can be dismissed with one simple thing:
>Netflixvania references
Yeah it's trash.

I always said that a telling of Simon Belmont's story should mostly be centered during the events of the sequel instead of the original. Blasphemy, I know but the original never had much of to explore in terms of creative possibilities, Simon came, he fought and he won. So it is far more interesting to follow the aftermath of Simon's victory and how a good man can fall but rise above all adversity when duty calls, even with all the odds stacked against him.

My "pitch" is to follow Simon 7 years after the events of C1, with the land becoming free of Dracula and his evil ever since. Simon has become a legend among his already legendary family, people cheer his name wherever he goes, ladies passing out at the mere sight of him. If the Belmonts were spat at wherever they went in the past, now it is the otherway around, they are extremely beloved heroes. And Simon knew he deserved it all, I mean, he did kill Dracula, it wasnt an easy task. So why not allow himself some freedom and joy now that his goal was fulfilled?

And just like a rockstar in his prime, Simon embraced it all. And just like a rockstar when out of his prime, we follow Simon 7 years later, older, tired, somewhat out of shape and with a mysterious growing pain in his back, accompanied by a dark necrotic looking stain that only becomes more prominent with time. He is still very much beloved but not only he has ruined some of his reputation through bad choices in these 7 years but he has become a recluse when it was becoming clear his health was failing him and neither science or magic could explain it. He thought he was at the prime of his life and there was time to eventually settle down and start a family but he has failed to achieve that, instead wasting time with a hedonistic style brought through him buying into his own hype. He is Simon Belmont and he deserved it. He is Simon Belmont and he deserves what he has now. Soon enough, he was Simon Belmont.

Eventually he visits the grave of his ancestors during a particularly foggy night, believing he has failed the bloodline. That is when a mysterous woman speaks to him, from among the fog. Simon reactively pulls out the Vampire Killer, ready to show that ,even in his weakened state, he was still the night's bane. She assures him that she doesnt come as an enemy but to warn him of what is going on.

This is where we get the woman explaining that Dracula, in a new scheme to destroy the land AND the Belmont bloodline in a swift strike, weaponized his own defeat so that 5 parts of his body are spread far and wide across the world, all with the intention to poison and corrupt the land with all the temptations and vices it can bring to the world of man. And to make matters worse, Simon's body is dying as well, with one of the sadistic effects of the curse being his infertility, meaning a Belmont cant carry the torch onwards...and by the time Dracula returns, the land will be dead and rotten, all according to his desire...with whoever is left standing no chance to stop him.

Simon seems more disappointed at himself for allowing this to happen but he asks if there is a way to stop this, perhaps destroying the pieces? The woman explains it is not so simple, the destruction of the pieces will not alone stop the curse but only by only bringing them together to where it all started...

"Castlevania"

Where they will come together to bring forward the count once again.

Simon is shocked and believes he is being tricked...him, a Belmont, bringing back Dracula? The woman reassures him that the intention is not to bring the lord of darkness back, instead to give the curse itself flesh to burn and destroy. Thats the only way of ending the very roots of this corruption. He must face his old enemy once again, or he will perish in a year.

Simon is quiet, so much doubt in his mind. He wasnt sure if could defeat Dracula again in this current state. He wasnt sure if he could trust this woman. Which leads to him asking...

"If you are truly on my side, answer me then, who are you?"

Her answer is vague

"The woman that is with every Belmont, in every battle. I was with your answers and Im here with you. For it is in this place, at this time, when the pale moon is high, when I can speak with the living...and feel the touch of my beloved once again."

We see a figure of a man standing behind the woman and he hugs her from behind. Simon's eyes widen as he could swear he recognized the man. He mutters the name to himself.

"Leon..."

Both figures slowly fade into the fog as Simon lifts his hand towards them, asking for more guidance.

"Wait, I have so much to ask! Come back!"

Simon falls on his knees as he sees he is alone among the graves of his ancestors, a place he knows he cannot join just yet, he has a job to do.

And the plot would follow Simon's Quest (heh) in the search for Dracula's body parts, which are acting like a malignant corrupting growth, wickening the hearts of men, poisoning the land and empowering monsters, with the nights becoming almost too dangerous to travel for mere men*.

As to why its a worldwide adventure? Well, I kind of dig the idea of Simon meeting new locations, cultures and, of course, the monsters natural to said places so we do get a lot of visual and enemy variety. We also are suppose to see Simon seeking to solve the problems of the people he meets (often influenced if not caused by the cursed piece of Dracula)-

- Because, again, he is a good man that has fallen off the right path but is seeking to get back straight away on it, for a world that may not see him the same way anymore, especially when its clear he is in some deranged quest to bring back Dracula's body parts and, fuck, resurrect him? The Belmont has snapped, obviously, or showed where his true alliance is. Either way, Simon wont always just be against beasts but against men too, some allies now against him even...

Ah yes, I even imagined sort of a meta moment where someone comments how Simon doesnt look like how he was described.

"I thought you were bigger and more, you know, muscular."

"Actually I thought he had red hair."

"Are you out of your mind? That was clearly his hair covered in blood."

"Gentlemen, gentlemen, please, when it comes to these things, the people can never really settle on a singular way to describe me, they always go for something grander in their eyes. Tho I do admit I have slacked off a bit..."

Just a small wink over just how Simon Belmont had many redesigns over the years

But thats just kind of a "pitch" or a "concept" of what a telling of Simon Belmont's story, one that deserves reverence and proper care

* Yes, this is to give in universe nod towards the classic "What a horrible night to have a curse" quote as its not Simon that is just cursed but the very land itself.

I miss when these series were dead. At least when they were raping CV back in the 2010's with those terrible 3d games and pachi-slot machines, everyone universally hated that shit and let the series die. Now you have terrible games that barely represent the source, being loved by retarded tourists the Netflix show brought in. The only silver lining is that we still got a real (fantastic)CV game with bloodstained. even if it doesn't share the same name.

It did dawn on me that Juste Belmont may have been the creator of the "Item Crash" ability that we see Belmonts after him using. I mean, his especiality was mixing the magic in their blood with their sub-weapons and we get many combinations between them and elemental types, some right down being the same item crashes that we see Richter using like the rapid knife throwing, the cross verticle beam and even Hydro Storm (still OP as ever).

It could be the case that the generations onwards use a simplified version of the skill and "Item Crash" is that version, which uses hearts instead of mana.

you have to say it like this "HYYDROAH STOORM"

It must be instantly terrifying for the forces of evil fighting Ricther who, suddenly and without warning, summons a monsoon of holy water.

Thats like acid suddenly starting to rain down on you and there isnt anywhere to hide, worse yet, Richter can still attack you during it.

I feel bad being negative about a new CV game because I’ve wanted one for so long, but I just can’t stand that 3D look. Dead Cells has some enemies/objects that I can’t stand to look at and this game is like a whole game of them.
I keep trying to choke it down but no thank you.

It reminds me of badly done pre-rendered effects in The Sims gba games. (They looked great though)

I’ll just be glad Konami remembers they don’t have to let Netflix use it as a toilet, it has better uses.

I'm going to do a controversial thing and actually play the fucking game before i write it off and seethe on a gossip websites video games board, wild I know.

It has alot of red flags but I just don't have this endless fucking rage about every new entry for every new game (beyond the ones that are blatantly obviously going to be leftist dogshit or w/e).

I liked Prince of Persia despite the Dreadlock hair, so we will see.

I'm honestly kinda surprised at the amount of backlash towards the visuals. Not just here but in general I've seen a lot of people complain about how ugly the game is. I don't think the visuals are impressive by any means, but it certainly doesn't look bad. The animations are smooth and the lighting looks well polished. Which is more than I can say for Bloodstained. I like Ritual of the Night but that game has insanely stiff animations and the character models have just constant flat lighting on them. Maybe I just wasn't as online back then but I really don't remember a backlash towards Bloodstained's visuals on the level I've been seeing towards Belmont's Curse.

Some of the art style pops, does it quite jive with the series previous art styles? eh.
Some say they are taking away from Netflix-Vania, and I'm not sure on that, seeing as Trevor has his game outfit, I don't like that the Vampire Killer looks like the one from Lords of Shadow, I prefer it look like a nondescript whip.. because that's how should look most of the time.

chara_top_sp.jpg
Trevor's outfit is almost identical to his previous 'mainline franchise' outfits, and hers looks based on a variety of belmonts, Leon's, Richter's and such.

gs_cv_1.jpg

again, good art direction, good use of colors, a bit "bright" compared to some of the better entries though.
