EU Cat gives birth in closed Istanbul mosque - Turkey is very nice to kitties

As part of measures to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, Turkey has shut down mosques across the country, to the dismay of many worshippers. But for one cat in Istanbul’s Fatih district, the now-empty space has provided the perfect setting for her to give birth to her kittens.

The imam of the Arakiyeci Ahmet Çelebi mosque said that when he entered the building to perform the call for prayer on Friday, he couldn't help hearing the nearby sound of mewing. He continued with his duty assuming the sound was coming from outside. On his way out, however, he stumbled across a mother and her four kittens sheltering under the pulpit.

He hurried to a shop to buy milk and food for the hungry felines, recording the chance encounter to the delight of social media users across the country. In the footage, the kittens are seen playing on the carpet, tumbling and falling over each other before finally rushing back to their mother to feed.

However, due to hygiene concerns at the house of worship, the imam reluctantly removed the cats from the mosque, making them a shelter just next to it. He said he had named the mother “Pamuk” (or Cotton) because of how soft and kind she seemed.

Islam as a whole, but Turkey and specifically, Istanbul has had a long history of having a culture of feeding street animals and treating them kindly dating back to the Medieval Era.

Muslims have lots of stories about their prophet and his cats (he was known for speaking to his followers in Medina with his cat sleeping in his lap). One of Muhammad's companions was known as Abu Hurairah which I'm told means Father of the Kitten, because he was always with his cat(s). There's a hadith that says he heard Muhammad said a woman went to hell for starving a cat. There are some hadiths about Aisha and cats as well. Most Muslims are good to their cats (I'm taking care of one that belongs to Muslims during this coronavirus madness). Turks seem particularly enamored of their felines though, and I have always coveted a Van cat.

Those are the eyes of a mother cat, alright. She's a beautiful calico, happy to see all is well for her and the kittens, taking sanctuary in a place of worship couldn't have come at a better time for her. She might've been a regular in the area, though, maybe had this place picked out ahead of time.

Mohamed was a cat person. There's a hadith about a cat curling up on Mohammed's robes while he was praying. When he'd finished his prayers he cut the sleeve off his robe so as not to disturb the sleeping cat.
From what I remember that was mis-attributed to Muhammad by western writers and it was actually a story about one of his disciples.

Enjoy that liquid cat shit, bro
Hopefully the cat did not mistake the mosque's foot bath for a litter box when initially entering. I have heard stories of kuffars mistaking the foot bath for a trough-style urinal.

Aw the cats are so cute!!

Could do without the Turks though.
my cats love it when a roach gets in
tons of fun for them to chase and attack, enough of a survival instinct to put up a good hunt, no real threat to anybody around them unless you just leave shit open and unprotected
