China’s “Zero COVID” policy - what’s in it for the CCP?

As the rest of the world continues to open back up, Xi Jinping continues to fight an insane battle trying to eradicate COVID, causing unrest inside China and continuing to stifle their economy. From an outsider’s perspective, this makes no sense, as this move appears only to weaken them both domestically and internationally, as this will only encourage more countries to move manufacturing out of China. The only explanation I can come up with is that Xi’s already in too deep and that walking it back now would come off as weakness, but destabilizing your country and weakening its international position to own your critics just seems like a hilariously bad plan.

Do any Kiwis have any hypotheses for why China might be doing this?

As much as I'd like to relax and point to China as the last place still caught in coof hysteria, both Joe Biden and Germany's Olaf Scholz recently made statements about the "pandemic" not being over, and both Australia and Canada haven't fully dropped covid restrictions, with unvaxxed people still unable to travel.

They could ramp this back up at any moment and most people would put back on their mask and start demanding that unvaxxed people be denied any healthcare of any kind again, etc. etc. What you're seeing in China could be here in a month. (But hopefully wont' be)

If we're lucky, Chinese history repeats itself for the upteenth time and the populace awakens that old taste for long pork.

The US literally does not have the manpower to enforce nationwide draconian COVID policies another time. If they have the kind of power you suggest, the vaccine mandates would never have been allowed to get overturned. At this point, like… they can try, but it’s just not going to work outside of their blue shitholes. Even California was having trouble getting people to come back for their nth booster shot.

Yeah I mean I live near a metro area where we're still required to wear masks in some instances and people flaunt it all the time and the police do nothing. People are sick of it and don't give a fuck. Neither do the police methinks.

Truckers get shot pt 2

It means if one rice nigger coughs or sneezes they will shutdown whole cities. Sorry Ching Chong, no 18hr work shift for you.

It's similar to how people used to train animals by starving them in a cage, then the starving creature would happily run in cricles to get food crumbs. CCP's sensing a building unrest from the richer & younger generations , so Xi wants to given 'em a good slap in the face. The measures don't make sense because it was never really about zero covid.

That plus some rumoured infighting between the top dogs (the Xi and Jiang powers), their official mouthpieces have been doing some weird flipflopping for the past months. Also to scare the "capitalists", stalling their factory production, businesses and shipments to tell them that the rich cannot buy their way out of serving CCP.

The CCP's going to end up throwing citizens who show the slightest hint of COVID into the incinerator, then burn those ashes.

I know some people who absolutely believe that China is only doing it to fuck the supply lines further to mess with the west in a stealthy way.

Personally I think thanks to their "face" culture the Chinese, especially their leadership have an inability to admit they've fucked up or that they were wrong in any way and so they double and triple down on stupid.

Chinese officials say that the west no longer fighting covid and going back to pre-pandemic norms is meant to cause social instability in China by making it's citizens jealous FFS.

I have read what I can about COVID in China and I still can not get my head around it with the immense lockdowns despite the vaccinations. The economic data is suggesting they have a reckoning coming as a result of these incredible lockdowns.

Part of my business uses products that are produced in China and we've been told they are not in stock until Feb 2023 so we have had to move to a new product line as a result.

I've had various theories thrown my way from Xi losing face to a host of other ideas, but none seem to make complete sense to me. We have skyrocketing food prices, a slightly weaker harvest in China expected, loss of grain from Ukraine, a halt to Wheat exports from India and Fertilizer disruptions...I can not fathom why Xi is pushing his country to the brink.

I seriously doubt that it’s to fuck over Western supply chains, because that’s literally the world’s biggest double-edged sword. Worse than a double-edged sword actually, because while it will certainly hurt the West in the short term (as much as it hurts themselves), in the long term we don’t need China, but if they want continued prosperity they most certainly need us.

Saving face over a failed policy? Quite plausibly. Hitting two sparrows with one stone by also saving face over an imminent food shortage? Even more plausible.

I have heard that before. But mostly from retards that tend to be cult followers of Andrew Anglin's Daily Stormer retardation. Doing something to mess with the West supply chain would mess up China's economy. Just look at China now, their economy is in a serious slump because of the commie chink cough. If they do anything to hurt the US, it hurts them just as much if not more. It's an absolutely stupid theory and it makes no sense. Also, another idiotic theory I have seen is that China and Russia are going to save each other. It's popular amongst American Russiaboo vatniggers that think China can save Russia from the Western sanctions and it can't. Matter of fact China won't because they don't want sanctions on them.
