Chinese cartoon enthusiast thread - isekai is good but Sword Art Online is bad, flatty vs. booba, etc.

Now that it's anonymous, are you actually okay with animation & think it's cool and gud?

It's not wokeified

I like seeing shows with a premise so crazy it would never get funding in the West for being too niche

Japanese people are really depressing about how badly they wanna reincarnate

I've never gotten a nosebleed from a boner in my life

Space Ghost Coast to Coast is my favorite anime

How can anybody hate John? Just look at the little guy, he's perfect.

No offense intended towards the resident animeheads, but I think 99% of anime is overly flashy drivel and you MIGHT need to be a little mental to enjoy it. Every week I go online to see people raving about "Beast Killer Vengeance" or "Uwa~! My Boyfriend Turned Into a TUNA!!" or whatever the new Cool Thing is and it's like, I dunno, what could you possibly be getting from this if you weren't born and raised in Japan? I've given it a genuine shot -- some of the 90s stuff is pretty good, even -- but the cultural barrier just seems too strong for the most part.

There's no subtlety or humour to any of it, and I'm not sure whether that's just a byproduct of translation or if it's genuinely how they like their media over there. As I am but a simple-minded Westoid, I'm used to things that are a little more lowkey and character-driven. Anime is not that.

(I will make an exception for Space Ghost Coast to Coast, however. BEST ANIMU OAT.)

He enjoys watching some anime but dislikes the culture surrounding it.
(Sorry to quote you btw)
This basically sums up my personal opinion on it these days. Always thought weebs were kinda annoying, despite nearly going in the deep end myself. Years of imageboards will do that to you. I thank the Lord everyday I never did.
I'd be a hypocrite if I completely dismissed anime though. Western and eastern media have the good, the bad, and the ugly, but for different reasons. I will admit Josh is right that anime hasn't had me think nearly hard on things as western media has.

This is obviously aimed at Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon. As a filthy round-eye, what I get out of this is amusement and edutainment because the protagonist is an absurd premise to instruct the reader/viewer on the minutae of coin-operated devices that populate Japan to an autistic degree, while imaging the outlandish scenarios where they might benefit a fantasy world of characters at a much lower level of technology.

You're not even wrong. Most anime is just done for the purpose of "Look at what we can do so you stay a fucking neet if you don't work 24/7". That's mainly how manga and anime humor has evolved, specifically to cater to the mentally ill that prefer to stay at home and not destroy their braincells working 15 hours a day. I find it pretty sad that it was meticulously made with that purpose, to cater to autists and creeps, but it is what it is. And it brings money to them too.

There's obviously some diamonds in the sea of shit, like Jujutsu Kaisen or stuff like that. But that doesn't change the fact it's still a diamond you're finding amidst a sea of shit.

Sometimes a man simply wants to turn his brain off and enjoy some anime.

It is superior to western cartoons.

Western media was never focused on cartoons. That was just always dumb stuff for dumb kids.

Not that anime is always great, but it never even got started properly in the west, like lets say film.

And everything western took a nosedive ten years ago.
