Classic Cartoons That Should Get (GOOD) Video Games

So recently I discovered that, of all things, there is a Rainbow Brite NES game... that apparently came out in 2018 but was in fact officially licensed (by the toy company, not by Nintendo). I have not gotten a chance to play this, so if anyone does, is it any good?

I also recently remembered the existence of this He-Man fangame on Game Jolt. While its not my ideal He-Man game (I would personally prefer an RPG or something), it's a fun beat-em-up (I believe it uses the Beats of Rage engine) and the character selection is like a fever dream... why is Skeletor playable? Why is Lion-O playable? (That said I contacted the author on Facebook and wondered if he would consider adding John Blackstar or Marshall Bravestarr, because let's go crazy).

...........

These got me thinking: a lot of cartoons are actually ripe for video game possibilities, but.... well, in some cases a video game just never happened. Or when it did, it's not my ideal (sorta like the He-Man example).

Just for example: I know there's been at least four G.I. Joe games.... but what confounds me is that none of them have been a turn-based strategy game. If anyone here has ever played the Jagged Alliance series... that's basically what I'm suggesting: do that, just with G.I. Joe characters.

But IMO the ultimate missed opportunity is Thundercats. To my knowledge there's only been one Thundercats game, a so-so platformer for old computers.

I once did a long post about what makes Thundercats awesome, and the biggest thing I highlighted was the setting of Third Earth... which, I mean, its already a cartoon about refugee aliens who are trying to survive on a mysterious, seemingly-primitive world with hints that it was once more advanced.... am I the only person who sees the potential for a Breath of the Wild style game in that? (admittedly more potential since there would be actual locations you could pull from and not just a bunch of samey shrines).

And in general, part of me would love to play a game that looks and feels like an eighties cartoon... in a sincere way. I've been told that there are some that try this, but they always come off to me like they're being ironic and also like they don't really understand what made cartoons of that era so good. I don't want a freaking parody.

AAAAAAANYWAY.

So, do you guys have any cartoons you think should get turned into a video game? Or in general do you have a backseat game-design idea for a fangame you'd like to see?

P.S. .... admittedly I thought about making a "no anime" rule, but I won't. But keep in mind: the reason I'm highlighting western work is a lot of western animation has never gotten a video game at all, or in a few cases the video games are less than ideal (Mighty Max anyone?)

If you're gonna choose an anime, try to pick something that legitimately hasn't been done to death--we don't need "I think DBZ needs a fighting game" as if there's not already fifty or so.

Most classic cartoons game adaptations would be just 80's aesthetics wankery like this GI joe one.
1 minute of animation on the trailer just to deliver the most underwhelming souless sprites right on the end.
I would have thought that GI Joe would have tempted a dev to make a (probably mediocre) hero shooter or RTS. I wouldn't be surprised if that has happened but it got axed fast.

A Popeye Beat em' up/Platformer with the same animation quality as Cuphead would be a dream come true.

A Muppet Babies game that includes all the imaginative fun of the original. Of course that means tons of licensing nightmares. The whole reason we aren't seeing the classic cartoon in reruns now.

We are truly in the Dark Age of video games... how does a new "retro style" game look so utterly shit compared to the real deal

new Toxic Crusaders game mogs it pretty hard too

oh and the reviews are in and apparently Mythforce kinda sucks or else it offends tranny casual game journos, not sure which. Looks like a SJW commie game tbh, classic She Ra showed a lot more skin.

So long as it's based on classic mumbly Popeye and not the Popeye from the King Features Syndicate TV version. Totally different character IMO. But yeah, I would love that so much, the score could be mostly sea shanties.

Muppet Babies would be perfect for a game like The Lost Vikings or Trine.

You know what would be absolutely KINO? Scooby-Doo as a first-person horror game. I wanna run around old decrepit mansions and hide from the spooky ghost that turns out to be just Old Man Jenkins in disguise
Not first person and not a very good game from what I remember, but there's a Scooby Doo game that plays like resident evil on the N64.

Family Guy got a bunch of games but none of them (excluding the pinball machine) were good*. I remember hearing THIS Siivagunner track and imagining some awesome GBA Beat Em' Up or platformer

*maybe the MMO was, I could never play it.

Invader Zim and Teenage Robot should've also got GBA games but I fully expect Johnen to bitch about the former and he quality of licenced GBA is an absolute crapshoot. You either get absolute pros or the most half-arsed stuff imaginable. Just look at the disparity between the two Garfield games, one of them legitimately looks like a bootleg:

You were likely to get at least one pro tracker musician on the soundtrack however.

Ps. I know that all the Ren and Stimpy games are considered to be of dubious quality. It shoulda gotten a good one.

There's also an apparently really good Scooby Doo point and click adventure ...on the Game Boy Color.

Pirates of dark water would make an interesting story/action adventure, if they ever finished the season.

Archer as a point and click made by Revolution Games (Broken Sword) would be fantastic.

Super autism:
A looney tunes 'super hero' style Avengers game and film.
Bugs Bunny - leader, master of disguise and deception
Daffy Duck - Demolition expert, cigar-smoking-heavy-gun-toting bad arse
Wile E Coyote - Inventor and all around technical genius
Road Runner - The Flash
Tasmanian Devil - The Hulk
Yosemite Sam - weapons expert/dual-wielding pistol.

Make the game in the cartoony/cloudy artstyle if it's an action adventure, or go whole hog and make it an RPG/Isometric squad-based RPG.

The game is finding the lost treasure of The White Melvin (Mel Blanc), a Golden Age treasure.

Looney Tunes as superheroes... I swear there was a cartoon with that exact premise....

I'd sure love a game based on the original Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. Preferably one that adapted the intended ending.

At most we had an okay-ish fan-created platformer.
We did? Do you have a link?

I gotta be honest the D&D cartoon is probably the best bit of D&D media (outside of the original RPG itself)... basically ever. So yeah I would love to see more done with it.

I wouldn't mind an American Dad game in the same vein as South Park: Stick of Truth. Where you're essentially playing through a big episode, with a same "best of" mindset where most of the plot/side quests are based on episodes.

I was thinking Steve and Roger somehow transform the world into an RPG game and Steve is the only one who knows how things work now and is trying to fix it. Or better yet, he goes mad with power and the rest of the family has to learn how to "play" properly so they can stop his tyranny.

Codename: Kids Next door or Code Lyoko - the latter had an alright tie in DS game but its probably only nostalgia. Lots of options for RPG or stealth type gameplay for either series.

No One Lives Forever but with Totally Spies' cast would be neat.

I'd love an open world Invader Zim or Powerpuff game too, not sure how the gameplay would be in either. The transition of the cul-de-sac in the Ed Edd Eddy PS2 era game was really memorable despite the frustrating game design, so i'd really like anything in that vein. Lots of great nostalgia bait licenses have cheap shitty sprite based beat 'em ups or platformers made out of them that really could use a bit of what /v/ calls sovl. There's a reason why Stick of Truth or Hit & Run come to mind when people think good TV show tie-in games.
