Two firefighters, both from South Metro Fire Rescue, were hurt and several students had to be get checked out.
The fire has been deemed accidental and was started by dust in the ventilation system outside the shop.”

They built around cafeteria where most of the shooting was IIRC.

Can I take the opportunity to sperg how we've gone too far in demolishing these mass shooting sites? When Columbine happened the biggest mass shooting was at a Luby's Cafeteria restaurant in Texas, and they reopened the site without major changes (it closed about a decade later during a round of restaurant closures, which would continue for the next twenty years until the chain would be down to a few dozen locations). McDonald's had a similar incident in the 1980s (the the San Ysidro McDonald's shooting) and they were all set to reopen (renovating and everything) but "following discussions between community leaders and McDonald's executives" it was not reopened and demolished, with it being donated to the city. (It would've been negative press to reopen.)

The demolition of Sandy Hook is complicated by the terrible "parents" issue, but even with Randy Stair, who shot his co-workers after the store was closed for the night, reconfigured the floorplan. Yes, I know that the three people he murdered aren't coming back but you could at least not gut the store and rearrange everything. Take time to mourn, but you have to move on eventually. You can't inconvenience the rest of the world just because of a tragedy.

I'm gonna sound retarded, but I had no idea this school was still open, I had always assumed its reputation as being THE school shooting site had pretty much destroyed any chance it had of people going there again.

I was getting ready to make a comment like "things that wouldn't be newsworthy if Columbine wasn't in the name", but after reading the comments here, then reading up on all the other incidents that have taken place since I am now firmly on Team Indian Burial Ground. Close that place, the fuck are you people doing?

Nah, it's the name.

Other schools in the area have also had fires and other weird issues over the years before most of them went through a huge overhaul/rebuild.

Though, I will say this is the first one I've seen where smoke inhalation was a huge concern. But, ya know, vents.

Gah! Pet peeve with large but older schools. The administration and school board rarely seems to grasp that they need dust collectors on the shops. Especially the wood shops. And letting that shit build up in the ventilation system is bad. If you hear of a roof fire at a school, it is almost always this. And the motherfucking roofs are nothing but Pidgeon shit as far as the eye can see.
