#Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Sir Skinny,

I know just as well as anyone that "Anti-Comicsgate" is an exonym, a label applied onto others as to opposed to one people identify themselves with. Like how people say the label "Comicsgate" was originally forced upon comic fans by SJWs, rather ironically. I only use it is as shorthand to describe the extremely loose, non-cohesive network of ejected fandoms, communities and individual CG exiles that sometimes find common ground, and try to always use the term in quotation marks for lack of a better one. Apologies to anyone if I wasn't clear on this, or had others' conception of what "Anti-CG " come across as my own.
But do you like big titties?

The Comic Book Hut came out with a strange video about Preston.

The main points I came away with was that peg-gate coupled with losing the rights to the Comicsgate name completely broke Preston and left him a shell of a man. Turns out that Wiki they were creating was a Trojan horse for Preston to lay claim to all the characters created for it.

But the most interesting thing was that Comic Book Hut had turned anti-CG into a pseudo cottage industry by collecting superchats for drawing characters for their Comicsgate Wiki.

But when anti-CG dissolved, it left the Hut faction-less, and thus, unable to collect superchats for his drawings.

When you strip away all the nonsense, the video is basically the Hut bitching about not being able to make money on superchats anymore.

I like Comic Book Hut talking about "pushing hard" in the "back channels" with Preston Poulter. Good stuff.

So a quick CG roll call.

Ethan @FROG
Edwin @edwin_boyette
Wenger @Wenger
Liam Gray @Tyne
Preston Poulter @PocketJacks
#1 Marmaduke Fan @#1EarthwormJimFan
JDA @TheCosmicWarrior
Nasser @NasserRabadi13
The Kim Jung Un comic guy who's name escapes me @COMMI3 MARK
Donal DeLay @Fathead

And now @Skinny is here.

Pretty sure CG and assorted comic crowdfunders will make up the majority of posters in this thread soon. If we can get Sketch Therapy to join the farms, it will have all been worth it.

EDIT: Oh and who could forget Sheila Allen @H0stile

EDIT 2: I also forgot Vikki @VIkkiVerse
And The Amazing Adam @The Real Official Adam
And the dearly departed LateNightComics @LateNightComics may he rest in peace.

Did I forget anyone, or are there any other lurkers who want to come out now?
I was just informed that @SpiderDerp is a sock of @TheCosmicWarrior.

So Liam mentioned Adam Friended/EVS were going to Stream Snipe one of Liam's video. Did that happen?
Not sure but I think it was mentioned on a recent Smiller stream with guests Mecha McCheese and Testefy-HD - I recommend this stream, admittedly it sounds absolutely awful on paper, but it was directed into a very enjoyable discussion peppered with high-level CG theory and Liam laughs, thanks to the participation of the Chat Maestro, our very own @Mister Dongs.

Couldn't find it because it hadn't aired yet, but now it has...

I'll leave the details for Mr Dongs's usual in-depth analysis but Ethan and Guests Stream Snipe Liam's 'Bring Me Ethan Van Sciver" video, they also Stream Snipe the Smiller/McCheese video mentioned above plus Ethan continues his streak of honesty with a confession that all those Star Wars and Brie Larson videos made him hate himself and was all about the money

I have no idea who is on who's side at this point. :\

I can only speak for me.

I'm on the Conservative / Christian culture war side, building and accomplishing a change through independent fiction and content -- that's my primary goal. Doing a lot with Vox Day and Chuck Dixon building that corner of the web as I have been for multiple years. I'm also hanging a lot with Ethan Ralph and his crew since they align with me politically quite a bit. My stalwart friends are always the unabashed folk on the right who don't worry about "muh optics" "muh associations". Truth and God's vision. We're all moving the needle and it's really looking optimistic as of late.

I like Hut, I like Nasser, I dislike TenNapel because of the aforementioned he went all "raccciiiss" on me because of War Campaign ops and maintains it to this day -- and I don't like that whole punching right nonsense. Post is more meant to hit him than Preston, though Preston has me putting him at arm's length lately because he's been putting me on blast for zero reason and I just don't want to be around that kind of negativity when I'm busy working. Like with anyone at all: if he'll be chill, I'll be chill.

But I'm generally down to be chill with most people. Never had probs with folk like Mitch Breitweiser or whoever even though folk want me to attack folk. Basically, if someone's on the right and they're never rude to me, I'll never be rude to them.

Right now I'm working on new books and #StopTheSteal, which is far more important than "WHO IS REAL COMIXGATEEEEE version 4395049306345.0"

That's funny, considering how proud you were to be the first comic released under the Comicsgste™ banner. Now that Preston has wasted all of that time and effort into being a thorn in the side of EVS and come out with nothing to show for it but a sex tape revealed to his fans, maybe he's a little annoyed at anyone who had encouraged him pursuing a pointless vendetta. It also makes you wonder maybe if someone didn't plant that idea in his head. Perhaps someone that might already have hurt feelings about EVS shutting his friend Vox Day down when he tried to take the name of Comicsgate and think that getting someone else to trademark the name might make EVS cry.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is stupid, but Ethan Derangement Syndrome is pathetic.

Make no mistake nob-kisser, Preston was very good at highlighting the intrinsic hypocrisy and dysfunction within the movement. He had receipts for days and his humor was on point. His problem was that he miscalculated the sexual deviancy of comic book nerds in general and that he would not automatically be accepted and defended when the time came for his secret identity to be revealed. Maybe he thought his TV sitcom look would carry the day. Maybe he thought his soft porn lesbian comics would just take over once people got a glimpse. Looks and money only get you so far... you still need talent, timing, and tact. As mediocre as Cyberfraud is, Sciverfrog was already an established mega-talent prior to it. Preston's offerings never had the potential to stand up on their own as great contributions, but he might have had potential of building a modest following if he hadn't been shown to be a grifter like almost everyone else out there. Sometimes there are some things you can do that can't ever be undone or unseen by any amount of goodwill moving forward. With a past like that, he should never have decided to put his face in front of his comics.

Ethan doesn't appear to have ever really had friends like normal people have friends, at least in his professional life. To be fair to him, he's not exactly the only one. Comicsgate's main contribution to society in my eyes is giving a very vivid window into the inner workings of a small but absolutely cutthroat industry... an industry with a perpetual Napoleonic complex that is now firmly under the heel of the titanic movie industry (which may have hit its own iceberg). Much like the acting world, very few people are actually good enough to make a decent living out of it. To watch Ethan flop around like a small time carpetbagger would be more disheartening had I not known how far he's go to maintain a cult-like grip on his CG.

If talking about Brie Larson could bring in 10 mill, he'd most certainly go back to it because as he has stated over and over again, it's all about the money. Many regular folks don't follow his logic all the way through. If he did it before he's way more likely to do it again if it meant more of what motivates him. Frog comes here because he gets more effective feedback than he could ever receive from a thousand of his fanboy paypigs. He also likes getting his hands dirty if he knows he'll get away with it. He's done it plenty of times here and like a sociopath might target people no one cares about, he'll keep slashing throats and writing his name in the splatter.

So Liam mentioned Adam Friended/EVS were going to Stream Snipe one of Liam's video. Did that happen?

Yes. The Friended efap went down on Patrick Thomas Parnell's channel but after two hours the panel of Parnell, Adam Friended, Deadwood Dale and Shane Davis only managed to muddle through 11 minutes of the 19 minute clip, saying they only have a vague idea who Nasser and Liam are, have no clue what Liam's grudge with Nasser is about, express complete mystery as to why Nasser wasn't in CG, what the deal was with Nasser's dispute with Donal Delay over Brutas the Badass or the circumstances of his departure. At one point Micah Curtis has to correct the record from the chat by saying that Donal is running the Brutas the Badass campaign and not Nasser. Incisive commentary this was not.

More interesting were the subtleties going on, like Adam Post going out of his way even now not to provoke Liam and even promoted Xenotype after the months-long shitfest his blocking Liam on twitter set in motion. Patrick Thomas Parnell was low key worried that Liam was going to flag his channel into a crater like he did SWC, insisting that Adam Friended pause the vid every 30 seconds (another major factor in why the show slowed to a crawl). Deadwood Dale references information from places you wouldn't expect him to be, but plays dumb not wanting to risk having Thomas Roiloup's words slip from his mouth.

The overall gist from the panel was them each lending their expert opinion that Liam was wrong when he said that he was the gatekeeper of CG, and that gatekeepers are bad. Also, Frog and Malin probably weren't going to be brought to Liam's feet at his command and that it was a bit comical for Liam to do so. The sort of risk-free stances one can expect from marginal figures who can't afford to be dealing hot takes, especially against someone as vindictive as Liam can be. That's about it.

"Blacklist Universe - How to Draw Mongols! Lonestar 3 drawing stream"

This stream was more interesting, none of the participants being beholden to toeing the party line. It begins like most of Mike's streams do, with him having to do some work drawing and figuring why not stream him doing it and get two boring things done at once? "Mecha McCheese", Mike's co-host, joins for a dialogue on the current state of Comicsgate. Mecha's complaint is that Comicsgate has in his eyes become a popularity contest where the people willing to superchat and network get ahead and the actual merit of the comic books is put to the wayside. He also expresses a hardline all-capeshit policy when it comes to the comics that will redeem the fallen comic industry, but this isn't a controversial opinion in CG circles. Smiller's made several non-superhero comics (and even Lonestar doesn't involve superpowers) but he graciously lets this minor detail slide with his co-host.

Mike has a more circumspect opinion as he tries to reconcile Frog being a tyrant and an arbiter of who gets promoted in Comicsgate and who doesn't while there exists other CG and CG-friendly platforms like Nerdrotic, HeelsVsBabyface, Yellowflash, TUG and others with comparable if not higher subscriber counts. Yet Frog is the decider of who gets promoted and not them. Mike suspects this is a moral failing on the youtubers' part, ignoring their moral obligation to sustain and provide direction to the movement in their lust for algorithm grifting Mammon.
I did my best from the chat to articulate my own thoughts on the matter - guys like Yellowflash, the Quartering and Nerdrotic and their channels are inherently reactionary in nature. They react (complain) to perceived problems in the establishment (Marvel, Star Wars, etc). But once a viewer is convinced that a problem exists and are willing to take action, the next step of course is to decide "do what exactly?" and "for what purpose?". The hard work of developing, testing, implementing and revising a working theory on "what is to be done" has been left to guys like Zack, Frog, Ro Kabir, Doug TenNapel, Nerkish, Jon del Arroz, Vox Day and Mike S. Miller to resolve (usually in the form of drama and gayops), with Frog and his own ideas (generally) coming out on top. tl;dr: the youtubers point out there is a problem, and other people start arguing what to do about it
For all the complaints about their algorithm chasing, clickbaiting and passionless outrage peddling, they do perform a valuable service as the entry pipeline into what can only be described as Comicsgate radicalization, and in return get very large subcounts for their trouble. With the exception of TUG, who shelters his paypigs from the outside world with the same level of possessiveness as a North Korean labor camp warden.

The first hour is a sedate stretch of Mike slowly drawing in the middle of the night, some people expressing that true unity in Comicsgate died when pros entered the movement and created a caste system (the idea amused Mike) when Testefy_HD entered the chat. Mecha coolly levels charges that this Testefy character sounds like he's trying to set himself up as the new Sheriff of Comicsgate and fill the void that Warcampaign left behind, smuckling that, like Matt Wenger said, "Self-appointed gatekeepers don't last in CG" and starts throwing out bait about Anna/TSWG, Testefy playing a pivotal role in that whole conflict between Anna/JACK show and Warcampaign starting back in April. To Mecha's surprise, Mike unexpectedly tosses Testefy a link to join the show.

Before Testefy is able to join the show, Mecha is already performing damage control to Mike for the whole "trying to set up a newer, more wholesome Warcampaign" idea of his. As a disillusioned participant of Comicsgate's particularly grimy form of ideological conflict resolution,. Testefy felt disgusted at any attempt to recreate the Warcampaign he credits himself for destroying and publicly exposed Mecha's desires to do so, somehow getting DM logs of Mecha discussing his plans with Preston Poulter and waging a public humiliation campaign against Mecha for his presumption. Mike's reaction could be best described as "bored amusement".

None of that is touched upon here as Testefy joins the show, an unspoken gentlemen's agreement between him and Mecha that the first person to sperg out in front of Mike loses. The tension on the stream is palpable as Mike obliviously notes some sort of contentiousness between the two. What does Testey think CG is? In his estimation Comicsgate is its principles of quality product, customer service and a mainstream alternative, but these ideals were corrupted by carpetbaggers and grifters who saw joining CG as an alternative to putting in the work. Mike disagrees, saying that what CG should be is different then what CG is,, and what CG is is Frog's brand. Testefy argues that CG is what it should be, and that at the end of the day, the people best at marketing themselves get the best marketing. Frog is the best at it and if you want his patronage you'll have to play be his rules and that's just how it is unless you want to put in the work to build a platform of equal size.

Smiller wonders how Comicsgate could be about customers choosing to buy books based on merit and quality and not a command economy directed at Frog's whim, a combination of personal nepotism, networking and spite campaigns waged against Smiller. Testefy says you have to have to build a platform people want to visit, followed by Mecha interjecting to ask about his issues with Anna. Mike however wants to return to the CG debate by citing someone in the chat noting the inherent failings in a command economy and how this could be prevented if the larger youtubers grab the proverbial CG oar. Testefy argues that the youtubers are beholden to the health and growth of their youtube channels first and the CG cause a distant second, and that, again, is how it is.

Mike's advocacy of the drafting of a "CG Constitution" was touched upon as well, but is cut off as Mecha and Testefy start sniping at each other openly, with the latter saying "everyone knows what Mecha thinks CG should be now" and being met with accusations of Testefy being "CG Sheriff" and "ThatComicBookHutGuy" since they're both "consumer advocates". Eventually the matter of the constant spamming of Testefy's youtube channel with sock puppets is also touched upon, up to and including sneaking onto his call-in show to stream videos of endowed black men (unmentioned), and how he suspects that Mecha might be responsible. Mecha says he's sorry that he's not behaving in a way to Testefy's liking and that CG Sheriff might as well slap the cuffs on him at this point. Testefy breathes through his teeth and the conversation is tactfully diverted towards discussing Liam Gray's reporting Ciderhype to the police, parodying Scotsman's artstreams and chatting with Matthew Weldon.

So was consensus reached at what Comicsgate in this rare debate? Perhaps not, but it certainly gave pause for thought.

Only now he notices this?

I don't know if it's a good thing, but I mostly agree with Testefy on this. I'll go as far as saying that the comicsgate cause shouldn't even be a consideration. Among comics creators, at least. Separation of comicsgate church and state, please. It's bad enough that youtubers sell mediocre books and that most fail to fulfil them on the backs of their outrage-vlogging personality cults, without the hook of buying approved books for 'the cause'. Comics can be saved, brothers and sisters, and the Esjaydoubleus will be cast out, and all you have to do is accept comicsgate into your heart and back my indiegogo!

"CG constitution." Go home Mike, you're drunk.
