Since over the past few weeks we've seen the glut of Comicsgate books slow down to a trickle, the failure rate has also fallen. This latest increase in books is more reminiscent of several months ago where close to 10 new campaigns were launching each week. We will have to wait and see if this trend continues or if this was just an isolated spurt.
FROM INDIEGOGO
It would appear that
DAMEGANG now has competition as another erotic Comicsgate comic was launched several days ago.
The BLUE BOMBSHELL from Clint Hilinski (artist on
Pirate Queen and
SeaDog and Codename Killswitch) has currently raised $8,320 from 108 backers. The book features 48 pages of adult content and nudity for your standard price of $25 plus shipping.
The only other things worth mentioning from Indiegogo is:
Sean Gordon Murphy's
THE PLOT HOLES recently fulfilled their digital PDFs. Any kiwis or lurkers will have to have completed the survey sent out to emails to have received
Starlight Cats creator Shane Davis announced a new, more masculine project titled
"Project Rex" which includes a
sign up page and a trailer that will be featured in our Youtube section.
FROM THE TWITTERVERSE
The COSMICWARRIOR / JDA recently put out a tweet comparing the decline in quality of art on NINJAK which was worthy enough for a quote tweet from FROG.
The tag team duo of FROG and JDA appeared to ruffle some feathers, with notorious Irish Comicbook store BIG BANG COMICS tweeting out that their orders for the new NINJAK had doubled.
Which was followed by some more passive aggressive tweets about punching nazis and complaining about salty people being angry about art in books that actually exist. Gators BTFO amirite guise?
Archive
As for the art itself, it shall be presented below for you to decide.
FROM YOUTUBE
Our very own Nasser Rabadi hosted
Shinobi Sasquatch artist Rob Willis for an interview after his campaign co-creator and writer
Cal Jameson blamed him for the book being nearly two years late.
DA Talks and VIKKIVERSE christened their new channel with their launch stream last week. The now named
The Dumping Grounds streams moved to a Monday night from it's previous slot of Sunday night. The first stream went over crowdfunding numbers including over $7 million dollars in unfulfilled crowdfunded comic campaigns, several erotic comic campaigns and several creators close to PRESTON POULTER actively looking for dox information on their critics.
The next installment of D & V Investigations focused on the Rob Willis interview on Nasser's channel and a growing feud between our very own
@9th legion centurion 002 and Roadwarrior Drake creator
Alazmat Films.
I'll condense this next segment with hyperlinks so as not to embed too many Youtube videos and crash this post. From what I understand the BIG DADDY / LARGE FATHER
did a stream criticizing the recent actions of fellow kiwi TESTEFY-HD, which resulted in a
remix song by Comicsgate music maestro Lord Finatra, then the drama spilled over into some discord and resulted in
Alazmat doing a response stream. I don't really have the time to invest in this latest drama so if anyone else wants to fill in the blanks feel free, or don't because it's irrelevant.
As mentioned above in our Indiegogo section, Shane Davis released a trailer for his upcoming campaign
"Project Rex."
The review team from F Off Well Read reviewed Norah's Saga and were joined by
KYRIE creator Matt C. The review team followed with an
Asstro vs Cluster Fudge review stream and later a review on the largest crowdfunded comic of all time
BRZRKR #3 by Keanu Reeves and Boom Studios.
Yellowflash did a video looking at the recent change in art style in NINJAK, which was previously reported on in our twitterverse section.
The Patriot Hut continues to cover the Poulter v Everybody lawsuit, this time alleging that FROG directed DA Talks and VIKKIVERSE to defame Preston Poulter and Jon Lamont.
Comics by Perch talks about the diversity or race swaps always appearing to be minor characters. The topic was suggested by one of his viewers, which explains the ignorance of the title given that several years ago nearly all of the big ticket Marvel characters had been race or gender swapped.
Poulter v Everybody lawsuit update
For those of you not following the
Preston Poulter v Everybody lawsuit thread here are some updates from the thread:
Whisper Network Backlash
The other big news that dropped recently was
another article from Bleeding Fool [
archive] which talked about members of the Whisper Network in comics beginning to suffer consequences for their actions. The article talks about Heidi MacDonald's hit piece article against Fables creator and Cool Story Bro contributor Bill Willingham, which may have been prompted to cancel Willingham for his pro-Israel stance in the recent conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. Bleeding Fool also theorizes that MacDonald's true motives might be to discredit Willingham as she shields a contributor to her website, fellow Whisper Network member Stephaine Cooke, who has been
credibly accused [
archive] of embezzling in excess of $10,000 from Willingham before she fled to Canada. This was briefly reported on by Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool, before the news article was quickly deleted.
The article continues with sources claiming that several comic publishers have hired lawyers and private investigators who are doing deep dives into media corruption that is damaging their brands, both financially and reputationally. DC comics has reportedly ceased giving review copies of comics to several "journalists" within the network.
The article finishes by reporting that Graeme McMillian, a long time Alex De Campi ally, was fired at the beginning of this year from Heat Vision and The AV Club's Caitlin Rosberg may be facing defamation charges for her repeated attacks on Jae Lee, Kate Leth, Nick Spencer, John Green and Dan Slott.
The article is definitely worth your time to read, I've included an archive above.
Well that was quite the update, other than some minor drama, new erotic campaigns and reviews there isn't much happening in Comicsgate right now. The big news is the ongoing developments with Preston Poulter's legal case against DA Talks, VIKKIVERSE and FROG. On the recent article about the Whisper Network I am less optimistic than others, one thing I've noticed was that it appeared to be the left eating their own. While conservatives have been fair game in comics for over a decade now, it was only after the sacred cows of Dan Slott, Nick Spencer and Kate Leth being smeared have consequences finally emerged.
As always take care and stay safe out there.
