The cycle has so far been
>he’s not going to do it
>he’s doing it but it will fail
>it’s not failed but it won’t do well
> it’s done great but it won’t deliver but even if it does it will be shit

Considering he’s beaten everyone’s concerns so far, why would you be weirded out that people are confidant in it?

The product does matter. We’ve been going for pages over if it will be good.

People were saying he wouldn’t manage it…

Yes but he isn’t. We know exactly what he is selling. This is not the first time he has sold or marketed a product.

Welcome to every product ever.

I'm sitting here in utter astonishment at how much of a non-answer these points are.

"He sold a bunch of preorders to his captive audience sight unseen so of course we can be confident the book is good."

"People thought he wouldn't sell a bunch of preorders so of course we can expect the book is going to be good."

"He has sold or marketed something before [not a comic book I assume] so we know exactly what his comic is going to be like."

Wat :stress:

Did... did you preorder ISOM #1, Coofy? Did you sign up for Rippaverse gatekeeping duty? Are you doing it now?

Don't get me wrong, I've already said that I don't know if the book will be good or not*. If it is, it is, if it isn't, it isn't. But that's the point. None of us know what the book is going to be like, beyond some anti-woke thing cribbing from some Christian school. I don't know if the book will be bad, you don't know if the book will be good.
$2M+ is a fucking significant chunk of change, but it's completely immaterial to the quality of a book that no-one has seen or reported on. It's sold completely on the back of Eric July saying non-woke things on youtube, not on honest reviews of the product, word of mouth about how good it is, or anything pertaining to its own, intrinsic merits.

Do you see what I'm saying?

Please say you see what I'm saying. I already feel like I've taken too many crazy pills.

* I will be quoting this in a month or so, because if it is properly good I fully expect some dipshit with sub-80 IQ reading comprehension to be rubbing it all over this thread, going "bawhawhaw yoo all fought it was gunna be bad!"

I actually got to read the entire DBZ manga online and what kept me coming back was how strong his style was in the comic book panel format. The line work is incredible and a much better effort than what the vast majority of american pros were doing at that time.

I reread Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z recently, and I'm picking through Dragon Ball Super now. I've said I preferred Toriyamas earlier, rounder style, and I agree that the guy on Super art duties is a further step back. The characters are mostly paper thin and the way Goku and everyone else for that matter constantly pulls new powers out of his ass is ridiculous.

But somehow I can't stop.

It's the action 100%. Manga artists tend to have a better handle on it than western types. Akira specifically is really consistent with his proportions, which aren't nearly as cartoony as the show and real enough to root the action.

You were asking how anyone can be confidant in it having not seen it. I’m saying that considering loads of people including us doubted it would fund, sell and then do this well people being positive is not really that wierd. Because sofar he seems to have proven everyone with doubts wrong.
Did... did you preorder ISOM #1, Coofy?
No. I have better shit to spend my money on. Mangas are way better than anything a Western writer pumps out.
Do you see what I'm saying?
Yes.

Holy shit. (:_(
The action does that to you. And the ridiculousness and absurdity of everything. DB knows exactly what it is and it pulls it off perfectly, even if the earlier stuff is better.

Dragonball manga is the way to go. Anime has some nice fights, but it also drags. There actually ain't a lot of filler, but some talking, powering up, fighting scenes are way too long, while the manga flows really well.
Now for the Super part... It's pretty clear that Toriyama gives little to no fucks. He also forgot most of the stuff. Toyotaro, the new artist, does a solid job replicating the characters looks, but the paneling is not even close. Last couple of years the art has gotten much better and even some panels look great, but it will never reach Tori's level. Why the characters look skinnier, is probably cause Toyotaro went and fused Toriyama's old and new style. If you look at some of the new Toriyama drawings i am pretty sure you won't like it, especially if you were a fan of his old stuff... And also the story is just whatever, so i am also reading it just for the fun of it. For me it's like GT, a completely different story, that makes little sense.

I'm still a bit weirded out by the fact that [product] doesn't seem to matter at all, even to kiwis in this thread, just so long as he shovels vast quantities of it. He might as well be selling $2M worth of toothpaste with a mystery flavor is it truffles, or pigshit? based solely on the premise that he's a non-woke black man on youtube.
Well if Comicsgate has achieved nothing else over the past 5 years, it has emphatically and unambiguously established that selling a product is wholly divorced from the quality of said product. At some point it becomes beating a dead horse. July could, in theory, make good comics with the support he's received if he just asks people to look over his shit before releasing it and hires competent people. But at this point it's just autistic speculation. In the meantime we're just discussing what we do know, like all the waves being made by his marketing, if not creative, success.

There'll be plenty of time to discuss how Rippa exactly is going to fulfill 20,000 orders with a due date of one month or if he'll be making good comics or not with his current creative team once we find out if the first one sucks or not and if anyone will be coming back for issue 2.

He gave an insane amount of money to Nerdrotic week after week.
GEORRRGGEE Molho appears to have moved on to the next tier, the Esteem stage, on the Maslow hierarchy of human needs and has decided to become a culture commando himself, dubbing himself "George the Giantslayer", cranking out videos complaining about Hollywood being BTFO by Bollywood media superpower 2020 or some shit and becomin a low level FNT/Adam Crigler panelist. Unsurprisingly, Molho has opened up the wallet for plenty of highly polished CGI intro graphics of a magical spartan warrior fighting demons, representing himself complaining about the latest cereal cartoon mascot being depicted as gay or whatever, high quality streaming gear and the ubiquitous "gamer den" backdrop. Will Molho be the paypig pawn that makes his way across the chessboard, or has he just found a new big stage for his fundamentally broken nature, like a new, better financed Fandom Menace Historian?

In other FNT-related news it turns out comedian Alex Stein, right now in the middle of a mainstream media cycle after calling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez "his favorite big booty Latina" to her face at the foot of Congress (to which AOC responed on social media), is a big fan of the Friday Night Tights crew, even going so far to meet an especially methed out Gary in person. The FNT people have received this news with a deep sense of pride.

Looking over the credits in the Description on the site I am kinda worried that he named the people who worked on the book except the editor. I know editing is a shit job nobody cares about, but hopefully he hired one.... right?

Maybe Mr Eric Rippa July fancies himself an editor? Even though in reality he's more of the producer and idea guy in this scenario.

On the GEEOOORRRGE question, he is still around and I think still donates to FNT, I don't watch so I don't know. I know he does appear on G+G's livestream they do on Tuesdays, he is in this one for instance.

I wouldn't put to much stock in the Alex Stein - FNT connection, I think that guy goes on anyone's show he can, he has been on the Killstream before for Christ's sake.

i think this first issue will be mediocre, just not woke.
but remember that it's an origin story in a sense. it has to introduce characters, set up the world and bring in the bigger plot or goal of the main character.
so it'll probably be given some leeway. remember that origin or introductory books aren't expected to be super bombastic
i think the second comic could be a lot better. he'll have more than enough money to hire more artist and maybe an editor if he wants. so it can be produced faster and in higher quality. he does have 2.3 million dollars as of now. so he can probably get to work on making more stuff write away.
edit: well he has the money, but hopefully he doesn't claim the majority of it until he ships out his products and people recieve them. that would be scummy as shit.

Nicest compliment she will ever get in her life.

Just got my copy of Jawbreakers Grand Bizarre. It contains two Jawbreakers stories and one Nexus story. The writing is standard YBZ fare but the art is pretty good. A lot better than I expected, especially the second Jawbreakers story where Marco Cannella did the art. The paper quality is better than his previous books too. Aaron Alfeche did the art for the other stories.

If Richard can stick to putting out more stuff like this, he might be able to salvage his career in comics.

In other news, Vito has been going at the Rippaverse on Twitter for the last 2 days or so.
@FROG,

If you ever wanna know why shunning Vito (which, to your credit, you have), and implementing some gatekeeping (*gasp*) can be a positive for a movement, here's your answer. Just think how he'd be fucking shit up right now if he were considered CG.

There's no split between Doomcock and WCB that I know of.
There should be a split between Doomcock and anybody with an IQ greater than room temperature. That guy is chronically full of shit.

When you repeatedly claim Kathleen Kennedy is on the outs at Disney, nobody expects that to mean that she'll leave 10 years after she qualifies for Social Security and has to use a mobility scooter.

I'm still a bit weirded out by the fact that [product] doesn't seem to matter at all, even to kiwis in this thread, just so long as he shovels vast quantities of it.
It matters.

But I think it also matters that somebody in independent comics beats FROG's number and fulfills at a rate greater than that of a snail. If only to prove a point. I'm sure you can appreciate that.

Is the Nexus story self-contained in a floppy or is it in the back of the book?

Is that something he wants to do? I'm inclined to believe @FROG when he says Zack is trying to wrap up his comics work and walk the earth like some kind of transient in search of an unattainable Platonic ideal of fast food breakfast sandwiches. Ethan certainly has more insight into what Zack is doing than anyone here and Zack's actions seem to bear out EVS' theories.

Zack is putting out Jawbreakers to get people off his back and to make up for wasting their time and money with the Waid lawsuit and even that came after two years of customer complaints about late books and middling campaigns nobody gave a shit about. Zack knows people want Jawbreakers. Zack knows people want him to come on Ethan's show to shoot the shit and riff on the state of comics for like an hour. The thing is, Zack believes that what his customers want/expect from him is somehow a huge imposition on him. He seems very annoyed that people would want him to continue to make and do things that they not only like but also bring him the most success. How dare they enjoy his product and want to buy more. Zack's popularity outside of his core tard base is an undue burden on him.

I think Zack doesn't really care about the money anymore. If he did, I'm inclined to believe he'd do things which would maximize his financial success, like writing shit people actually want to read and promoting it on livestreams. To Zack, it's worth however much money he's left on the table for him to not feel like he has to do something. Zack would rather walk than feel obligated to do something like write a comic, go on a livestream, or wear a condom.

Imagine how successful Jawbreakers Forever would have been had he not been an asshole for the last couple of years. He could have split the Jawbreakers, Kuffz, and Narzack books into separate campaigns and made probably $500k. Instead he's running a giveaway with all three of those books and hasn't even cracked $115k. I think the damage is done and there isn't much for him to salvage.

(Deep Altered Voice) My sources tell me Kathleen Kennedy had people intentionally leaking thinks to doomcock so she could laugh and discredit the fandom menace

just speculation, but would be funny if true.

Speaking of Zack and livestreams...

Despite being off twitter he found a random guy with ONE like on his comment and bitched about it in his youtube hugbox just to shit on livestreams. I know he rants on twitter screencaps regularly but this is getting pretty low.

Zack is sounding like a spurned lover now. One would think it would be the other way around because he was the one that left CG for greener pastures.

Zack is seething about Michael Bancroft from inside his hugbox, this is great.

YBZ only talks in echo chambers where people can't talk back these days. He likes to post things to his community tab and heart the people who parrot his opinion the most.
