EVS use to say he was against and would criticize Smiller putting several out during his Lonestar campaigns. Now, EVS puts out a variant cover for his tired frog comics every month.

It's the comic company/comic maker exploiting a certain section of the collectors who are autistic completists with money. They must have every version. So this all variants campaign is targeting these repeat customers of EVS who already bought every single thing and are now going to own 5 more or multiple sets of 5 more. There is an exploitation of dumb speculators too because some very few variants of certain comics become valuable they think the one they bought will be the one. That's why Marvel now makes variants of every damn issue of comics. Used to be issue #1's now even issue #37 has variants. A lot of them are only worth the cover price or less now.

It also occurred to me that line-art variants show an extra effort to grift since a colorist doesn't have to be paid.
 
As much of a pro ai defender i an to mock takentless hacks in pedowood. Maybe it shouldn't be used by literal talentless hacks who uses it to write z movies. Ai should be a tool to help ideas to flesh out ideas or cool or wacky photos, not the replacement of writing or illustrating of a comic book company

Your not smart enough to make this funny, your not insightful enough to say anything profound and you're not literate enough( biblically or reading wise) to make anything worthwhile on this subject.

As far as AI art gose. I'm embarrassed to admit that when it first started happening I freaked the fuck out with a lot of stupid people, now that enough time has passed its obvious that AI art is going to be used for 3 things inspiration, glorified stock footage and memes(with porno on the side) anything else is just marketing spin.

Zack, people want to read real books by real writers and see real art made by real artists. Also let's not let the symbolism of a book about Christ's return using all AI art and probably some writing be lost on us. Even if it's a joke book.

You know, I'm starting to see more and more why comics are failing and manga is doing well. How is it that difficult to deliver a functional product on time without all these weird gimmicks and built in advertisements? I picked up a comic to flip through the other day and it felt like every third page was an ad.

The problem is since the 90s you have to have variants and all the gimmicks and all that since it's what the collector trade demands, which is probably still the prime market for comics. Your average capeshit movie enjoyer probably goes 'oh cool comics' and doesn't really buy any.

I'm pretty sure that's Zack trying to troll. I have no fucking idea why, but he released a fake ad for a Jesus plushie around the same time. Why or what, I have no Earthly idea. I saw Eric July out of the blue posted "Praise Jesus" yesterday, but if that's it, than Zack is even more of a retard schizophrenic than I thought.

Also, I went and checked his actual page and his interactions and views have dropped like fucking crazy. A year ago, his views hovered about 10k, now they're lucky to crack 3k.

Because current year comics don't give new readers a way in, they should have put up a plan around the time Iron man released in theaters but they were too retarded and gay to capitalize on the cultural relevance.

When the comic industry was healthy it was a much rarer occasion and was only done for special key issues. It was also done to give customers more variety to pick from (have an issue that has two popular characters? Do a cover with each so people that like one get get the one with that character). Certain cases it was done as promotion for actual physical stores, certain retailers would get certain covers so you would have to go to certain stores to get them (at one time the industry actually cared about the health of the people who sold their products..

Even the physical copies of the TV Guide Booklets did something similar ages ago. certain retailers getting one of two variants and then subscribers to TV guide would get a separate 3rd variant cover for special releases. It was always a sales gimmick but it was tame and customers in general liked it when it was done.

In the modern day it's just to milk the same shrinking customer base to make up lost sales, you need one customer to buy 3-5 variants to make up for the sales of all the customers comics has a medium have lost over the last 15 or so years, it's why almost every comic release has multiple variants (both mainstream and indie).

It's why comic sales numbers have been very misleading for some time, take King Spawn which was a "hit" when it's first issue dropped. It had decent sales numbers but it had ELEVEN DIFFERENT VARIANTS for it's first issue, speculators/ collectors obvious impacting it's sales compared to successful comics from when the industry was healthy and you could reach those numbers with only 1 version on the market. It's not even a first issue thing for King Spawn, issue 2 and onward also have multiple covers, though not nearly as many as the first.

I'm actually fine with that. You can make incredible things with AI, especially if you already have a background in art but the person doing has to both care and have a drop of talent to do so, Zack has neither.

This cover is terrible, a reflection of how little the person who made it cares. I have no background in art but know the basics of photoshop and other software for work, even I've managed to make things generated from AI look better than this.

The joke is also terrible. Wow, he used JESUS in mocking manner to make a joke!? Very mid-2000's reddit Zack, incredible stuff from a totally not Obama era democrat who TOTALLY voted for Trump I'm sure.

He's mocking Doug Ernst. Nobody caught that one reference to rosaries coming with the comic books, that's Doug Ernst's Soulfinder. Also the day he made that reference there was an Ernst/Eric July X interaction.
