What people seem to not understand about people like Mac or Meyers is that they're not conservative, they're just not liberal. Excuse me if i sound like a sperg but there's a phenomenon of Right Wing Liberals and they seem to be tripping everyone up. Take Musk for example, reddit darling, electronic car hippie who wants to colonize mars, then he didn't like the fact that one of his sons wanted to lob his knob off and now hes right wing, but that's not by choice, he's fallen out of the lefts camp and the only other place to land is on the right. But they still keep they're LW tendencies, they just phrase them differently, Like the H1-B stuff. They're synonyms not antonyms, they sound and spell different but theyre still the same word.
Mac was a hardcore liberal who whether you want to believe her or not found Christ, but she didnt change, she still the same puritan prude just under the lens of Christianity. If one wanted to be charitable i think she actually began to have an issue with the current state of uglification in media, she hopped on the bandwagon but didnt tel anyone how far she was going now that shes hopped off and is telling people still on the wagon that theyre boing to far people are upset. whether or not you think shes a grifter i suppose depends on whether or not you believe that she knowingly didnt disclose her intentions (i'd like to assume ignorance rather than malice).
Meyer is a different can of worms but is the same concept. Now for all of JSG's faults he never once claimed to be conservative or even the leftist cop out Centrist, Meyer never disclosed his political leanings, all people knew was that he didn't like the current state of comics and was speaking out about it. Meyers began to say something a while back, He claimed people were saying he changed when he claims he never did. Meyers is right because he never did change. Hes singing the same tune from back in the day just with different lyrics. This is because he never disclosed that he wanted comics to get better so he could write for his favourite companies. If you listen to his earlier and even some of his later videos you hear his passion for the medium, he constanly speaks of ideas popping in and out of his head, how he got his start in comics, his favourite series, hell he only joined the army because of GI:Joe or at least thats what he claims. The end goal was always comics being READABLE, or TOLERABLE, never about making a new industry or rebuilding from the rubble. Thats what caused the shift. Meyers God bless him isnt the sharpest tool in the shed, He has issues focusing, interacting with others, critical thinking when it comes to anything but comics and a huge lack of self awareness. He stumbled into success due to these characteristics but then a series of catastrophic failures (the Comedy Central interview and his late books) led him to where he is now. He expected that sales would drop, things would change and he'd be recognised. Then hed get to write for marvel and dc and everything would be hunky dory. but thats not what happened, and so now Meyers is scrambling, he has to save whats left or he'll never write, Batman, or G.I.Joe. He finally finishes his books and now has free time, he sees movies he couldnt see otherwise and now he realises that movies have become tolerable, at least for him. So now He has to try and use his platform to try and ride this wave so comics can be saved. Cus if he cant write for the Big two why write at all. "I didnt want this , why are people saying ive changed" he says "This movie is perfectly watchable why are you trying to destroy the medium, If they do that I cant fulfil my dream" He was never a critic, he was a fan who knew his stuff and fancied himself capable of addressing the issues he saw, He didnt go on Joe Rogan because he was scared and didnt repsect the platform anyway, He realised his mistake and went to the first other place that offered him an interview. Its all very sad, I feel sympathy for Meyer sometimes (i only vaguely knew of the daughter situation and to be honest i thought the man was unmarried) He's a pleb turned figurehead, he was always going to be out of his depth, its just tragic.
tl:dr No one trully changed and that confuses people, communication is the best way to know someones intentions.
