You could go as far as to say it is a community of haters and a-logs at this point. All things considered, I don't believe the tattered remains of CG is worth anything more than that.
In general, this isn't so much a fandom because there simply isn't enough material put out there, especially when you consider Ethan has hamstrung his own following by severing all ties to his actual masterpieces in DC (mostly) & Marvel. More than anything, Ethan and the rest of his orbiting anal beads have mastered the art of self-promotion through constant internet trolling in the hopes that enough superchats keep coming in.
I don't think anyone here could ever claim to define exactly what a "fandom" is supposed to be or how it should be carried out but a little bit of common sense goes along way. When you think of a typical fan of something or someone, you think of someone who doesn't have much if anything negative to say unless it's couched with a large amount of humor or compartmentalization when it comes to personal lives and political opinions. It might be argued that it has become tougher to find casual fans who are ignorant of major scandals within any given topic now that we've had the internet for a awhile. In the end, what our mono-pop-culture used to provide in widely known properties that were easy for large numbers of people to come together as enthusiasts over has been divided into smaller and smaller branded segments for increasingly extreme segments of the population.
The only way to keep online fandom completely positive is to create a protective bubble around it, and that takes considerable effort the more popular a thing is. My personal view is that we shouldn't allow ourselves to think there are always going to be protected spaces for our opinions before we voice them. I can understand holding to certain decorum in the language used, but if a critique is valid beyond "this thing sucks I hate it" there should be a space for that, but if there isn't space for that on one forum, you can always post somewhere here on the Farms if nowhere else.
When the object or subject becomes a real idol, it could mean the loss of friends, family, jobs, or in the most extreme cases, incarceration and death. The world needs more critics and a-logs to remind us that in the entertainment sphere, nothing is worth losing most of those things over. But again, if all that criticism is centered around a cult mentality that does not allow for dissention, that's a red flag too.

I'd like to believe most of our issues with Ethan and Richard Meyer have roots in valid criticism, usually in regards to their own astounding hypocrisy. July isn't perfect and his comics aren't what I would call great by any measure, but what the CG "community" hasn't figured out yet after nearly half a decade of this specific subset of horseshit is that by acting like total clown syndrome lolcow scammers, they will always eclipse any negative discussion of their intended target. Warcampaign was a perfect example early on: the fact that some of them decided to stupidly cling to that identity even after their piss-poor character assessment, misplaced loyalty, and the gayest of memes and ops possible within a "comic book" fandumb/coommunity exposed them for the social outcasts they deserved to be. If July really has the potential for a lolcow, he'll take these guys in now that they want to kiss his ass over a political take or two.
