Diamond put out their statement. 6 weeks of 25% payments, 75% deferred payment in equal installments for 13 weeks following that period. No word on cancellations, solicitations restarting, or shipping. How many small publisher can survive that?

This ain't good, Lion Forge is already gone from Corona and quite a number of these little guys are probably on their last legs. Peter Simeti is already preparing to tighten the belt for the next few months. Funnily enough, he's in a potentially better situation to survive this compared to other small companies because he's on good terms with CG. Those guys will buy a stack of cheap comics to help keep the lights on.

I don't charge for covers, although I do sell the original art. It feels weird to ask these guys who don't make nearly as much as me for my $1000 cover rate, when I'll just turn around and sell the original art for several thousand dollars anyhow. I get paid from collectors and customers, not my fellow creators.

I didn't know you were doing those covers for free. That's incredibly generous. I respect that.

You're the one with the expertise, is it even legal to just make up your own payment schedule like that? To unilaterally tell someone "I'll pay your bill in the following deferred payments" and you just have to accept it? I mean, are these folks not under contract to deliver/pay "X" on "Y" date? I dunno if anyone was smart enough to put in wording to the effect of "Unless something completely disastrous and unforeseen happens"? The word "contract terms" appears, but that's darn nebulous, if there was some "Doomsday" clause to invoke, you'd think he'd mention it by name to make it clear?

The cost of a lawsuit and the time it takes to resolve is probably not worth it, especially for the indies that are already cash strapped and have little income during the downtime. People have mentioned that DC's late response about finding other distributors might have been due to looking over their contract and legally breaking away from Diamond exclusivity, due to their non-compliance. My guess would be that ~6months is right around the time-frame it would take to create new workable distribution networks that bypass Diamond.

Diamond is also in a position of absolute power, if they go under the entire house of cards collapses so yhey tell the industry how it is. Mentioning negotiating rent deferrals with landlords (who hold power over Diamond), and salary cuts is to show that they are good ol boys, and to shame people into compliance.

If a Liam Gray from the Hunter Valley was convicted of domestic abuse of their mother, why would they be sentenced in a Grafton local court, in the Northern River region of NSW, over 5 hours away from Newcastle and the Hunter Valley?

Heres a map to show how nonsensical such a decision would be. Grafton is closer to Brisbane in Queensland than it is Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. Grafton is not in the Hunter Valley region, Liams deliberate deception in this matter only makes my hypothesis that he is the Liam Gray being charged more valid in my eyes.

I would almost feel bad for the guy getting a little roasted on stream if EVS didn't give him several chances to call back later for a private chat and not sound a like goof on-air. It's nuts, I think Donny might have been a little drunk or something because his thoughts seem fairly scattered and there's a lot of stuttering (could just be nerves though) and EVS keeps giving him an out to actually have a private chat while Donny proceeds to wobble back and forth from airing out his grievances and trying to make peace over the course of roughly 20 minutes.

Good that you modified that with "possible". Nothing personal against what you said, it just seemed like a borrow from anti-CG notebook, because they do the same type of accusations for everybody. If you genuinely find something concrete, I would welcome for it to change my mind. Like most consumers, I'd like to know who my wallet supports.

But the big spotlight has to be the confrontation with EVS and Donny Cates.
