Honest, good-faith critique of Narwhal's art? Do you know what thread you're in? Get that shit out of here.
Fair is fair.

Sable looks considerably less shit than 499. If you're gonna ape somebody, you could do a hell of of a lot worse than Mobius. Mobius is known for his use of pastels, which is considerably less headache inducing than that neon "bisexual lighting" shit. Narwhal's line art still needs some work, but the new color choice is a definite improvement. I wasn't joking when I said that the neon colors in 499 inflicted pain on my corneas.

I really dont think that was narwhals fault tho, remember when.zack reviewed that other comic youtubers crowdfunded comic which was all neon colors and shit? Being all excited about it because that guy also wrote up a pdf of his process making the book which zack being a spreadsheet nerd loved, I feel like that wouldve been the motivation, could be wrong tho.

In additional defence of narwhal, I think he should move away from lineart all together and try digital paiting with a good painting software like painstorm studio. He would probably make insanely cool shit as opposed to pursuing something PLAYED THE FUCK OUT lik regular clean lines. Pursuing more 3D elements would be dope too.

All hail true indies.

My fellow Kiwis, these days are dark. We have been left in a confusing, war torn wilderness.

In the aftermath of SmugPugs well structured breakdown of the state of Comicsgate, I decided to see if Comicsgate was still boring.

Frog has really been a stream machine. I couldn't be bothered for most, but I saw he's doing drawing streams! It was mostly worthless and I was about to tune out when Trevor Nickell asked whether Ethan would wait until he actually had something to ship before starting an IGG.

15:33 mark.

Don't you know that IGG is not about pre-orders? It's about Frog getting money to make the comic, which he confusingly states he already has the money to do? Crowdfunding is supposed to 'make it bigger' and 'better'. While waiting sucks, people are being 'programmed' by SJWs to hate late books. You aren't shopping, you're raising funds for the book. Though Frog admits he doesn't need the money to make the book? He states that crowdfunding is for people who lack funds to make what they want to make.

Now, those of you who don't have galaxy sized brains may be confused by this bizarre defense of someone who has solicited hundreds of thousands of dollars for multiple projects over years and each one being extremely late. Don't worry, Papa Smurf is here to explain.

The whole point of crowdfunding disappears if they actually have to produce the comic before IGG! It's hard being patient. Papa Smurf understands. But this is important! Why? Well, who knows?

Narwhal, apparently, has a channel.

If you enjoy listening to ums, uhs, and stunted discussion by two painfully white motherfuckers on Anime/Manga and why it sells better.

Not to be out cringed, Mike S Miller, MisterPrideisasinTM, hosted a drawn and quartered (Yes it is still a thing) surround JoJo's bizarre adventures. For non Weebs, JoJo is flamboyantly gay in aesthetic.

Doug Tennapel is now streaming on Locals.

Probably the biggest happenings where the explosive end to the Tard Warz. If anyone remembers, I commented on the ongoing JDA versus VikkiDean slap fight. Jon played it off and attempted to mock the. idea that he and Vikki/Dean didn't like each other....well.

I could probably find extensive medical documentation on sex reassignment surgery. Doesn't mean I'd want sex reassignment surgery after reading it. If anything, it would make me even more disgusted at the idea.

I'm guessing your theory here is that Narwhal only did it because Zack insisted on it. I suppose that's possible, but I wish Narwhal would have talked Zack out of having him use those colors.

Am weeb. Can confirm. Show should be called Jojo's FABULOUS Adventure.

Still easier on the eyes than 499 though.

I'm not necessarily saying Narwhal did it because Zack insisted on it, I just think Zack was inspired by Octobriana and suggested it to Narwhal who I don't think would've ever minded it, in fact I think Narwhal embraced the idea.
It really is a book for those with a good, aquired, refined taste, confident and secure in what they like, and those interested in new takes and broadening their palette.
It's completely fine for others to stay plebs and consoom their feed through the trough of mainstream comics and mainstream imitations however, where would the medium be without them.

Damn, this is the best comicsgate book review I've watched yet.. how'd you even find this to be able to pull it out like that wtf. If that's your channel, you better not give up on making videos.
Definitely not me. I accidentally came across it while looking for videos that were totally not asmr.

Frog seems to have taken the State of Comicsgate presented on the Poz Show personally, as he does most criticisms of Comicsgate as a whole. As for me personally, I warned him way back in February that at 426 days between launch and expected delivery, Cyberfrog: Rekt Planet customers were already the longest waiting customers in CG. I don't really have much else to add on the matter since that post nine months ago; in my opinion Comicsgate customers should accept waiting for years for their comics as long as they continue to overwhelmingly support the practice in the face of on-time alternatives. Said guarantee of support seems to be shakier these days since Frog has gone on to blow past those extremely generous margins (we're now at 614 days since the launch of Rekt Planet with no end in sight), with Frog's youtube programming pivoting towards these perceived issues and is now putting out solo drawstreams of him engaging with his increasingly impatient chat while showing that progress is being made on Rekt Planet.

The other change is a lot of ESG-funding related streams; with ideological leadership falling upon Frog to provide, he's been producing a lot of content with the challenging task of trying to relate the extremely dry matter of a DNC-controlled Congress altering regulations 401Ks and social security retirement fund management to his entertainment-hungry audience, elaborating how it results in a near limitless source of investment capital for global media megacorporations and incentivizes them to create woke content and hire woke people. His latest stream went so far as to show the audience WarnerMedia's showcasing of DC Comics as proof of their "diverse and inclusive" values and therefore qualification to receive a high ESG rating to be prioritized for investment capital. The point of this all being, shouting "get woke go broke", complaining about how the Disney Sequels suck and the original, critical stage of OGCG is and in truth always was just pointless screaming into the void. These executives in board room meetings simply do not care what fandom thinks; hell, they don't care if DC Comics' tiny business makes a profit or not. What they actually care about is access to the collective retirement funds of all working Americans. DC Comics could sell zero comics this year and they'd still be soliciting Superman/Batman gay erotica regardless so long as the gay content boosts AT&T/TimeWarner's ESG rating.

All this builds towards Frog's closing argument which, summarized as best I can, is that youtubers complaining about America's culture being made woke by big corporations and claiming victory based off of low Rotten Tomatoes scores or underperforming box office yields amounts to little more then peddling empty copium to an audience that just wants to be told what they want to hear at this point. The current imposed woke cultural hegemony isn't going to be fought by superchatting someone like the Quartering or Jeremy Griggs having a tantrum about it on youtube and somehow hoping the manchild meltdown is going to make Bob Iger ignore his stakeholders; if people want to take action, al that can really be done is supporting otherwise blacklisted or suppressed art and culture, which is Comicsgate.

At the same time, Frog's reconnecting with the Comicsgate everyman is a rich source of entertainment.
On this ESG stream, a sidetopic of rapproachment between him and under 100 subscriber "Telepathic Bunny" was tragically derailed when the autist in question evoked Amit Raina's critique on the State of CG stream describing Comicsgate's transformation "from a fan group to a fan club", at which Frog exploded "Comicsgate didn't become my fan group! My fan group became Comicsgate you dummies! How dare you?!"

:story:

Putting aside the burning question of if Comicsgate has degenerated into a e-celeb fan club devoid of its original values, Anna TSWG, currently selling a heavily supported and endorsed $25 cosplay calendar to Comicsgaters, continues to yield delicious content.

Earlier this week a Brie Larson stan account made a Bounding into Comics parody twitter account with this premier tweet, to which Anna and Cecil reacted to by calling upon their twitter their followers to flag the account down for impersonation, showing how truly not mad they were at this material.

Incidentally Anna being confused with a sex worker is apparently something that is not exclusive to the online world, as the latest JACK show Anna exploded at the other panelists after Cecil brought up their fun meetup in Nashville with her boyfriend and Yellowflash where they went to a strip club. Anna was less than enthused at this being brought up ever again, given that a drunk bar patron crotchgrabbed her in front of her three male friends who proceeded to "just stand there and be useless". Her own boyfriend stood there and did nothing, while Cecil presumably looked for a corner to masturbate from while he watched, while Yellowflash showed no interest in stepping up for Anna's boyfriend. Apparently youtube celeb does not translate to toughness in real life bars. This was was then compounded by the arrival of "Captain Chokeout", never the most tactful Englishman, who met Anna's indignant answer of what she was wearing (lol) with a trenchcoat with peals of laughter, explaining that that's what all the strippers in clubs wear in between sets, to which Anna reacted by leaving the stream in a rage. The stream was then quickly privated by Jon Malin in short order.

Tragically, Anna learned the hard way that when you're a big star, like the drunken rando at a strip club, you can just grab women like Anna by the pussy. You can do anything. #cecilgate

Also wtf is crackpack?
They're part of the fourth wave of Comicsgaters to rise to prominence over 2021, along with varied individuals like Gabe Eltraeb, Aaron Lopresti, Well Read, Lord Finatra, Leroi, Matt Bahr and Ali Sanguis. The "Crackpack" comprises of people who joined Comicsgate because they were fans of youtube CG livestreams like Frog's shock jock-style shows, the JACK show, etc. as opposed to previous waves who joined because of comics related reasons. Howard Stern had a Wack Pack; Comicsgate e-celebs have given rise to a Crackpack, with a self-styled aesthete centered around smoking crack as well as sometimes cooming. They encounter a fair deal of gatekeeping and pushback from any of the cliques in Comicsgate concerned with optics in any way whatsoever, and are finding it difficult to get traction beyond a few of the smaller creators. In any case, here's an example of this accurate and no doubt flattering reflection:

It really is a book for those with a good, aquired, refined taste, confident and secure in what they like, and those interested in new takes and broadening their palette.

lol yeah we're looking at this generation's moebius right here

Zack was pretty open about his theft inspiration from Octobriana's color palette. He even showed the exact page he lifted the colors from in the video he made about Rugg's process zine:

Screenshot (39) - Copy.png

One reason it didn't look good when Zack did it was that there were no heavy blacks in Narwhal's work. Narwhal has a pencil thin line and very little use of shadow. Jim Rugg specifically meant for Octobriana to look like a blacklight poster. It was a deliberate design choice meant to evoke that look, which is why you see a lot of ink on the pages including solid black gutters.

For Zack, it was yet another aspect of his project he decided to change on a whim. It wasn't conceived as his design choice and Narwhal's art was never meant to be colored in that way. It only happened because Richard like pretty color, so he make book pretty color. And given how receptive YBZ is to advice that runs contrary to whatever dumb idea he has at any given moment, I can't imagine Narwhal "embraced the idea" so much as went "Ok, I guess?". I'm pretty sure Zack himself colored it, so don't think he'd have given up the idea even if Narhwal objected.

These are the same guys who designed a mascot to represent their friendship. I don't think we'll ever really understand the creative process that goes on between those two. Frankly I'm not sure I want to.

Jesus, has it already been 614 days since Rekt Planet's funding? I kind of gave up waiting on the few books I backed, I was completely caught off guard when Monster M.D. and of all things the chicken book showed up at my doorstep.

At this point without looking at my contribution page on IGG, I couldn't for the life of me remember what the fuck I've even backed and what I've gotten. Right now as I look at the page, we're coming up on 2 years for Cash Grab, and I can't only wonder why the hell I was so taken in by CG in the first place. I mean, really the alternative to crappy new writing isn't crappy indy campaigns, it's either re-reading older stories and wasting money on that endeavor of collecting, or read manga or even European comics.

Aside from the occasionally truly talented artist, and decent writer, the options have been very limited. I considered throwing my hat into the review of CG books I'd helped fund but I doubt there's much of a market for it anyway - People who are loyal payers to CG are going to help fund anything and everything that has the 'approved CG seal' on it, and those who are loyal to the 'other side' are going to do the same for theirs.

Honestly speaking the two stories I've actually genuinely enjoyed most from the crop of offerings is Monster M.D. and Longharbour the latter of which I was especially excited for simply by the designs and artwork put into it. With MM.D. sitting at around 144 pages of actual main story (not including the add on story), it didn't feel like a total waste of time and money put into it. I fell out of the loop from a lot of these guys simply due to all the bullshit that I noticed being pushed around, it's why I asked about Elliot not too long ago, another person I'm interested in finding again is Keung Lee, if I remember correctly he fulfilled his stuff and got it out in a timely manner? Looking at his IGG campaign for BMKB2 it reached its closing in July this year and... Look at that.

Now, this isn't nearly as ambitious a campaign as others, but it's a real good highlight on the dos and donts of this whole CG thing. You hear the "big guys" tell you what to do and how to do it, and honestly, they've been getting it wrong. If these campaigns can put out decent stuff with good art and writing, that's what I'll be focusing on myself.

I look at Octobriana, and I don't see it as quite as garish as 499. Maybe that's just me though.

Yeah... I, uhhh... I'm gonna have to just respectfully disagree with you on this one. Sorry.

In fairness this has been the most entertaining Anna's ever been. She should embrace been the CG Thot. She would make a fair few quid from a Only Fans. As Star Wars is dead as dodo probably the only way to market herself. People might watch Frog's 8 hour streams if she pops on for a few minutes to get them out. Still wouldn't make me watch the Jack show though.

She does seem to be the only person tolerated by all parties in the now fractured fandom menace, doesn't she? Though maybe I'm wrong about the Nerdrotic/G&G cabal.
