Here's my two cents: Most people don't care anymore about 90s capeshit except edgy try-hards like Ed Piskor. It's mainly a bunch of boomers and older millennials who rage about the current state of superheroes the way their dads rage about how it was better in the good ol' days. And the funny thing is, July lauded the success of manga over American comics. Instead of following that direction and hiring a mix of different talents with different art styles, to mix things up a bit and attract a larger audience, he goes full 90s capeshit to fight the current deluge of woke capeshit.

Well, between the popularity of manga in the US and the global media phenomenon that is the MCU, not even getting into the popularity of more "edgy capeshit" like The Boys and Invincible, the case could be made that the demand for the material exists but that it's just not being met. That said, the idea that a first time creator with one 96 page book is going to be able to fulfill the demand for a imprint-wide fictional universe comparable to what Marvel and DC had in the late 80s-early 90s, something that was organically developed after decades of work over thousands upon thousands of issues, is very optimistic at this very early stage.

I really like anthologies too, but in practice I can see how trying to coordinate a handful of artists and writers signed to contracts, wrangled to get all their stuff done and in before deadline, and then splitting up all the money could be more complicated and less fun than just making a book yourself.

IIRC, the remnants of WC published a CG anthology that lasted all of one late issue, right?

They made CG Jumpstart, which was intended as a Wizard-style comics coverage magazine full of exclusive interviews and comics content, but was never published due to Steve Dye, the magazine's editor pulling out of WC and the project itself over the Thot Wars of 2020 and taking all of the material with him on account of Ro never actually hammering out a solid contract with the guy. Dye went on to make a non-WC affiliated magazine along those line called ROK!T, which didn't really set CG on fire,
perhaps on account of the internet making publications like Wizard obsolete like 25 years ago.

Graham Nolan is currently putting together GIANT-SIZE TWO-FISTED MANLY TALES, a fight comic anthology which apparently Nolan is griping about all the problems you just described.

I maintain my position that Snyder is a "Garbage In - Garbage Out" kind of director. Give him a good script, and he'll turn out a good movie. Give him a script like Batman v Superman, and you'll get a movie like Batman v Superman.

This was the same guy who said he hated Superman and took the darker aspects of Batman and applied them throughout the DCEU. It was a dumb idea since everything became grimdark and nothing stood out. Metropolis and the other DC cities were as gloomy as Gotham, which made them all feel like the same place to me. Honestly, I don't get what DC and Warner Bros were thinking giving him this entire comic book line to adapt. Not everything has to look and feel like Watchmen!

Bruce Timm serving as the executive producer for the DCEU would've been amazing. However I'm guessing since his only experience was with the animation side of things, either he or the WB execs would think he wouldn't be the right choice for running live action productions that run in the hundreds of millions.

Plus, the same WB execs would probably try to put on the same kind of pressure to rush to a Justice League team up movie in order to directly compete with Marvel, rather slowly build up to the team up movie like the MCU did.

I'm not naive enough to think Rolling Stone has no agenda of their own or is some bastion of unbiased apolitical journalism, but what has me thinking the allegations have some credibility behind them is that RS is not stating its own conclusions, but are relaying the leaked conclusions of an internal investigation by Warner Brothers. Who do have every reason to want to find the truth of what was behind the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut bullshit.

This isn't looking good. If he fails now, not only would it look embarrasing for the CG crowd, but there's been a bit mainstream coverage through Le Fox News.
