One of the great things about this thread is that it introduced me to Comics by Perch.
And today, he had a viewer question video that asked, among other things, why the ComcisGate creators don't band together and try to form their own imprint a la Image Comics did in the 90s.
Going by what we're seeing with RippaVerse and PayPal, part of it might be because even when the creators appear to have their shit together to actually publish and ship their comics, there's still some pretty basic business sense that they're missing.

And immediately get hit by weirdos attacking you as a hate group, launch all kinds of campaigns to cut you off from Paypal, Patreon, Kickstarter, etc? Not to mention, very few of these creators are good at running a business, which requires discipline and focus that they may not have (being creative people and all that).
Oh Perch and his audience, always asking silly questions in order to appear to be some thunk-provoking centrists.

I mean… is it a particularly desirable thing to run another Image style publishing house? What are the advantages? The risks are insane. The direct market is fucked, maybe terminally so. Why waste valuable time and money fighting against mentally ill leftist gatekeepers for a slice of a dwindling pie? Oh, and then maybe your office staff can unionize and yank your editorial powers out from under you?

Well if you want to save the industry, you need an industry (or make one), with that in mind Frog said on multiple occasions that he doesn't really care anymore and just wants to make frogbooks by himself, the other CG creators look content on using indiegogo until the end of time too.

Video starts getting into high gear at 10 minutes in when Perch starts wondering what would happen if Comicsgaters rallied behind an already established hungry small scale publisher like Scout Comics, or perhaps even Dynamite. If CG did theoretically get into business with Dynamite, Perch expertly predicts all those twitter users and their hot air would blow over like a quick breeze.
At 13 minutes 30 seconds, Perch belatedly remembers that CG did get into business with Dynamite over two years ago which resulted in them caving to incredible pressure placed on them both internally and externally to cancel all their contracts with Comicsgate creators, objectively proving the previous 3 minutes was just Perch talking completely out of his ass. But since Perch already has 12 minutes of unedited stream-of-consciousness bloviating in the can, he just doubles down and pinches off another classic thinkpiece by conceding "okay yeah I know the cover thing with Dynamite happened" but "things be different now", a whole 2 years later, because of "the state of the direct market" and so all the publishers would tell all their employees to shove it. Another great "analysis" from Perch.
Still, the original question is interesting so here's my take:
- Most creators in Comicsgate were won over with the proselytization efforts of Frog and his message of "own 100% of your IP and answer to no one". Answering to a publisher and not owning the IP you are working about directly contradict that.
- The idea of being answerable for the actions for dozens of socially dysfunctional, often combative Comicsgate creators is about as equally appealing a proposal from a publishers' perspective. The minority of CGers (and adjacents) who are interested in publishing like Eric July, Mitch Breitweiser, Richard C. Meyer, Jon Malin and Adam Post often exercise greater ownership over IP and hold contracted talent under arguably less favorable terms than they'd get from a normal indie comic publisher. The publishing line itself is their "creation" in this creator-rights movement, which supersedes any rights of the creators in their employ doing actual creating.
- As Frog delved into in a previous livestream, inviting multiple creators having a stake in a single intellectual property is fraught with legal peril, like the decades of litigation McFarlane incurred by inviting Neil Gaiman in to work on Spawn without a clear-cut contract hammered out in advance. As a result Frog is unapologetic about ensuring that he owns 100% of everything related to Cyberfrog (while Creed and Snowman remained 100% creator owned), which strikes me as a sensible navigation between points #1 and #2. July's promises of an imprint-wide canon (ala Marvel) excludes the possibility of publishing any non-Rippaverse material, which leads me to assume he intends on owning 100% of everything.
- As Perch himself mentions, another problem with Comicsgaters forming a singular publisher to rally behind is that it creates a single point of failure for their opponents to focus all their efforts to undermine on, like the exhaust port of a chud Death Star or, as Perch doesn't mention, opens the opportunity for a new class of professional gatekeeper middlemen to insert themselves between the fans and creators, which was the exact situation that brought about the creation of Comicsgate in the first place.
There are a lot of cases to be made for establishing a shared publisher, like a drastic reduction of overhead (building a platform and fulfillment service around a single comic book is extremely inefficient and unfavorable to beginning/developing creators), smaller creators able to collectively bargain etc. but it's a tough sell with this particular crowd.
In other news,
Beady-eye fetus guy Ryan Kinel once agane landed the rest of the FNT crew in hot water when, during an inane livestreaming of himself, Kristen Nova, Alex Stein and Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers at the model Simpsons-themed area at the Universal Studios theme park, decided to engage in some public George Floyd-centric sketch comedy. This fiasco (measured at 0.3 MechaRandoms) set off a wave of twitter activism to (so far) negligible effect, but did put the new Savior of Comics YoungRippa in the front lines of the ethnic shield wall being summoned by Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers in defense of Kinel.
Rippa does not appear especially enthused about his presence on the latest Ryan Kinel damage control stream, as @Ike Aim notes his chemistry with the rest of the panelist is especially poor. Jeremy of Geeks and Gamers, who it should be noted was desperately running out of the frame of the camera during Kinel's impromptu comedy out of fear for his brand, now proudly stands behind his brother and has a powerful rebuttal for those who would say he is a racist or any other label: fuck you. He continues to tell the audience how funny he found the skit (off screen) while his diverse and inclusive set of panelists stare sullenly into their keyboards. However it was not all doom and gloom between being a melanated shield in service of Ryan Kinel and streaming his deepening business conflicts with Paypal.
Rippa had an extremely genial stream with Chuck Dixon which only really served to contrast his clear discomfort on Geeks and Gamers. Chuck for his part appeared absolutely thrilled with the emergence of a "new crowdfunding comics king", the Great Black Hope of comics we know as "Rippa". Dixon, who was cancelled from mainstream comics way back in 2003, has opted to go on an uncharacteristic livestream tour not just on July's show but even making an appearance on last week's Comicsgate Kings and co-paneling with Mike Baron on a lore-themed show on JDA's channel. It's not clear what provoked this change in heart from the legendary creator, who has normally kept a long arm's length from the greater excesses of culture war youtube, something to do with Smple Zack, whether it's a changing perspective on the figures involved, reevaluating the importance of livestreaming, or simply out of need to drum up much needed backers for his latest project, the ambitiously large and already completed 360 page comic Kickstarter crowdfund Hunter Ninja Bear.
Hints of Dixon's estimation of pre-Rippa Comicsgate can be discerned like his sales pitch for HNB which includes "At Kickstarter you're not going to pledge to it and then wait five years for it. It's completed and it'll fulfill shortly after the campaign's over", but these pale in comparison to his comments on Ask Chuck Dixon #111, a paean to the ancap messiah offering a glimmer of hope to escape from wandering the wastes of Comicsgate Gehenna and finally moving on to something that resembles a "real movement". Should Chuck have waited until the volatile culture war youtuber got a book out first, and not started publicly threatening to stake all his raised capital on an indefinite legal throwdown with his payment processor, before proclaiming an end to Comicsgate-related wackiness? Probably. But the important thing is that the very high spirited stream ended with July and Dixon both being very enthusiastic about the latter collaborating on future entries for the Rippaverse.
Finally, to end this post on a high note, our old friends at Rewriting Ripley have seized the opportunity of Ryan Kinel's latest dumbass outburst to release another medium.com article titled "Calling Out Hate In Fandom Isn’t Enough. We Must Deplatform It." Nominally about the Friday Night Tights crew being racist and their hurtful attacks upon Reylos like themselves, it's not long before the subject of the essay digresses into the real evil behind it all, the master vampire from whom the Fandom Menace and the Quartering devolve: @FROG, as well as a deep dive the heart of darkness, the secret power propping up them up: this thread. All of us get a mention here, from @SaidNoOneEver, @Smug Freiza , retard @Furyan to @gibtev
Frog has already put up a video response to the hit piece, gleefully taking special care to explain in careful detail how he measures equal to Alex Jones in the "based" hierarchy and how Jeremy Griggs and Quartering look to him as their ideological daddy. The upcoming Friday Night Tights stream, if they choose to acknowledge this at all, promises to be no doubt far less amused.

This whole situation just gets better and better. Looking at that article, I never thought I'd live to see the day that Nerdrotic and other reasonable critics of modern Disney be equated with white supremacy.
This is how it begins, they keep using enough keywords and wage online witch hunts against anyone that dares challenge the Mouse's shitty creative decisions. Seems like the left are the ones to talk about being doxxed since I guess it's ok to threaten J. K. Rowling after she gave the ungrateful tossers one of the best fantasy series of all time.

Frog did a video calling Brooks "Womanly" but it may have been Eltaeb instigating these Tweet threads, police calls, and general unhinged twitter to real life action.
I'm inclined to give Brooks some consideration on this ongoing slapfight, mostly because Eltaeb came out swinging with the "Pussy" and "Coward" talk to someone he presumably has never met. All the way back in June according to Brook's unarchived screen shots. Generally I think going to Ad-Hominem means you lost an argument. I say generally because you can't get through a few sentences from Brooks without SJW buzzwords like Gaslighting and terms like Sunshine and disinfectant.

The NotPunisher writer may be correct in that Brooks most likely is being somewhat disingenuous in pivoting from confident goofiness in dealing with his twitter troll, to getting the police involved while claiming to be "scared" for himself and others at the con. Brook's continued Mark Waid like cries about making cons safe for everyone really just means gatekeeping CG. However he's not wrong in this particular instance. Eltaeb calling him coward and pussy is irrelevant to any discussion to the merits of CG. Which was what Eltaeb really wanted right? A Debate?

Shame that a stupid joke, that admittedly is worth a bit of a chuckle, has to end up with so much bullshit around it. We used to be able to say "High school isn't real life, don't worry about people treating it that way." Well, seems that is still about half correct. We just had the grade level too high.

Interesting comment from EVS in that video. He mentions telling Gabe to stand down on the Brooks business because the tactic backfires; it lets Brooks play the victim, and parlay victimhood to elevate his social status. That really is the name of the game anymore.
