I think THEATERS are dieing, they have movies on streamers. Most are crap though so I will agree with you on that and you could make the argument that streamers are encouraged to make content and not art, however I would say that this Nihilistic Wig history(tm) much like wig history is not guaranteed. Not that it's applicable but vinyl came back in a big way.

I threw in a "when?" in my last post because I had a feeling Zack was going to resort to this "in the future" cope, and he did not disappoint. In the enlightened future of 2070, when cinephiles are reviewing the real films of ages past, Todd Phillips' innovative use of the unreliable narrator in his cash grab evil clown movie will finally be recognized by the erudite.

Richard C Meyer wouldn't give a single second of fuck about this movie if it was about a random broke spaz's struggle with the welfare system. He watched it solely because there's a famous capeshit character he knows about. He is exactly like the 20-something females he hates, with the difference being that 20 y/o women have more self-respect and did not come back for the pointless and derided sequel just because it had the famous comic book character.

If Zack ever acknowledged Fleck (2019) or The Trial of Arthur Fleck (2024), it would be during a brief aside about how artsy Oscar-bait movies are boring and how he never watches movies about homeless people and the mentally ill. In fact that was one of the things he singled out about Spawn in that laughable workshop video that @Mr Processor occasionally mentions. Zack hates losers and bums, and would never watch a movie about their problems if they weren't festooned with comic book references.

You can pretty much tell Zack's taste in movies by looking at a list of videos on his other channel:

Basically, superhero movies, movies by popular directors, stuff for faggots and Streets of Fire for some reason. Even Buckaroo Banzai was basically a superhero movie of a sort. Really, he doesn't even do that many movies by popular directors. If you go back to the beginning, you can see he wanted to become a "Birthday Party Clown"

I think he's extremely angry that nobody wanted to hear his TV or Movie takes, and that this is part of what is driving him currently.
 
You would think Meyer had a part in Joker 2 from how hard he's been fighting to defend it. And no Meyer, no one fucking likes the movie, the audience has spoken with their mouths and wallets, stop being assmad at youtubers because you have bad taste

Here's Meyer seething about Critical Drinker making a pithy response about not like the new Tomb Raider cartoon so of course that means he pretended to watch it. Mind you, unlike Meyer, the guy actually plays games and enjoyed classic Lara Croft so I know he at least has an interest in this not being shit.

I just want to point out that when Meyer complains about people causing harm, he swore up and down that people in the comic industry wanted him and his audience dead and calls them murderers. The irony is lost on these people.

My theory (put on your tin foil hats) is they're doing it to either shut down potential competition or they're doing it to demoralise normies. Isom is certainly NOT profitable now, it WAS when it launched because July made a big deal about it and got cool press coverage courtesy of fox news and other outlets. It's not a good superhero story as well, standard black superhero affair, static shock and Luke Cage were infinitely better at the same concepts 20 YEARS AGO. If it happens, colossal if, its primarily because July is selling out. But even if that's very likely, what isn't is the fact that July is not a savory person optics wise which would make his mainstream hiring prospects tenuous to put it mildly. Both EVS and Chuck Dixon are unmentionables despite having worked at Marvel and DC (EVS even created a Muslim woman superhero with grant Morrison for the Xmen after iraq happened), July having associated with them is not good for a public facing company.

can someone explain to me why we should take the words of a literal nobody in "Erwin The Author" seriously?

I think "selling it to Disney" is just a metaphor for creating a generic IP and hoping to sell the movie rights and using that as a criticism somehow. You know, the ultimate goal for 99.9% of all CG project's hopes and dreams. They're just upset that July has the best shot at actually doing that now.
