Richard seems to be convinced that MGM's Wizard of Oz is a girl's movie. This shows that for all his absurd pretensions of culture he knows practically nothing about cinema. He probably doesn't realize how new technicolor was when they made it, or why the Kansas parts of the movie are in black and white. Well, I believe he's probably never seen it. It's one of these pinnacles of cinema which anyone interested in the art form should know at least a little bit about.
I think the most offensive thing I find about Richard is he acts like some kind of authority on movies because of his failed comic book business, despite being an ignorant retard with no taste. If he was just playing a "normal guy critic" who likes the movies that he likes, it would be less annoying. No, he has to pretend he's an expert.
A movie critic talking about the Wizard of Oz is normal. It's like if they talk about Citizen Kane, Rope or 2001: A Space Odyssey. Movies and directors that moved the art of cinema forward. However, Richard's dismissal of the film is perfectly valid, after all, it's no The Crow (2024).
