It's absurd. I know why he's mad too. He said nothing until it passed Superman in the box office. Now it's real shit because those FAKE NIP COMICS are making more money than REAL COMICS. Like, nigga, I hate telling you this but Demon Slayer AND Superman are both for kids, no matter how many statues you buy. You can enjoy them as an adult, I do, but you don't need to get so ass hurt over a box office score
It is so stupid! DS earned that cash! Superman is trying to cash in on good will after the fuck-ups with BvS, JL and the Gay Son of Krypton from the comics and fails! F4 is trying to make do with a property that had not seen the light of day for years due to Bob Igor thinking that tanking the name is the way to go to secure the rights. Well Bucko, you secured the rights, shame you succeeded in making sure no one cares about the F4 anymore.
Congratulations, you played yourself!
This is what I saw with most Gen-X. They were too old when Toonami started, and never connected that Thundercats/Silverhawks/Tigersharks/Tranformers were animated in Japan.
No, man. Do not break their hearts. It is like telling that Santa is not real to a class of First Graders.
Dude, I am in the same generation as Ethan (Gen X), and Robotech was basically my introduction to anime. And like I said, there was a whole comics run, starting with Comico, beginning in 1984 (yes, before the show even aired), and then going through to the present with Eternity, Academy, Antarctic Press, Wildstorm, Dynamite, and now Titan. I had a lot of the early stuff. Wish I still did.
Fair enough, I am just pointing out that not everyone was into the same geeky stuff even back then. I get that it is less the age and more the geek.
I am just saying, I don't think age has much to do with liking anime and manga, unless we're talking literally boomers or older (and I even know a few boomers that like it). Gen X would be just about right for much of the first wave of U.S fandom. Individual taste could be more of an issue, but I really do think, in Ethan' case, he just fucking hates anything that people spend money on that isn't his slop.
Envy is the name of that game. He sees the guy he thinks he could have been. Sad thing is, he is RIGHT! He could have done what Eric did if he put his heart into it and DC could have done more to fight DS on its dominance if only they had not been stupid with everything. The only thing worse than losing and realizing you would have not won even in a million years, is realizing that YOU COULD HAVE WON if only you stood up from your chair and tried only slightly harder. He really had a chance. What a waste of potential and talent...
Besides, isn't he working on some manga inspired thing with Sven Stoffels? I mean, come on. It's ridiculous. Ethan ain't that committed to hating a particular art style. He'd love Kamen America if it were CG branded. He also spoke approvingly of Battle Maiden Knuckle Bomb, and the stuff Raging Golden Eagle did (both of which ARE CG affiliated).
He is a hypocrite. Also, RGE at least is a weeb that owns it. He likes the big tiddy animu stuff and admits it. I can respect that. The CG assholes have to fake being better than the weebs because they jacked it off to Jean Grey and Cat-Woman as opposed to Nami and/or Yoruichi. Just embarrassing all around.
Ethan just hates shit because when he doesn't have control over it, can't legitimately take credit for it, isn't making money off it, and it's more successful than his stuff.
Sucks for him as those multiply by the second. He could have kept that shit private at least. I do not need to hear a shit-take from a guy who I can confirm licked a urinal.
The entire western comics industry is just a feeder system for streaming services, and now that era is over, the entire thing is crashing into the ground.
Woah maybe they should've I don't know, made something else other than superhero slop?
They tried to turn Superhero titles into Slice-of-Life bullshit but with tights for all that counts. I like slice-of life but I see it as putting meatballs on ice-cream. I can enjoy meatballs and ice-scream but not together but I will not throw either out just because they touched each other. Moderation is key.
The American comics industry is built on superheroes. If you remove the capeshit, what else sells?
The Punisher? If we're going by a strict definition in that he has no superpowers.
Ummm... do people still like those Archie and Veronica comics?
No, but seriously, the big thing anime and manga has going for it is it's a medium and not a genre. There's a diversity of genres within it. The problem with American comics is that there's so much capeshit, one tends to think of it as both a medium and a genre. American comics have a brand and image problem.
The Comics Code ruined everything. Gone are the days of serious detective stories, love dramas, horror etc etc. Back when it was implemented, it was meant to kill everything that was not Archie level of safe. Now, if you want mysteries, drama or horror, you better expect a dude in spandex to star in it.
It's because the Demon Slayer movie that just released is wildly successful, and Zack is on this retarded ass thing where he thinks American mainstream comic IP (read: mostly capeshit) is "good again," so he has to shit on everything that's a competitor to it for... reasons.
Before you ask... no, it doesn't make sense.
I disagree. It does make sense. You just have to see it from his perspective: He is a failure and so are those he worships ergo, he feels personally attacked when the Big 2's decisions come home to roost and a thing he does not like/understand/get surpasses them in success with the same demographic. Simple as that.
