Ah, but it listed Rippaverse as a "traditional publisher." And considering Rippaverse was nothing but one guy's dream just a few years ago, listing it up there with the big two is kind of unintentional praise.

Ethan probably has a decent nest egg unless he's gambled most of it away.

Zack has a decent job (from what he says in his videos) to fall back on and EVS still has 2 or 3 more years to bleed out his paypigs.

Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought Thinking Critical was one of Zack's go-to ComicsTube channels. I know he used to refer to TC's videos quite a bit and even directed his audience to TC when the whole Hut/Ernst retard proxy war was exposed (laughably it was TC defending Ernst). But now TC is a "tourist"?

I watched the TC video on Jim Shooter today, and it seemed pretty straightforward. To summarize, in 1998 Shooter wrote a proposal for a book about the corporate acquisition of comic book publishers, particularly Wall Street raider Ron Perelman's 1989 purchase of Marvel. He argued that turning comics into corporate IP inventory would be a disaster, ripping the creative heart from the art form. The proposal never saw the light of day until it was published on Shooter's blog several months after his death in June of 2025. TC examined the proposal and argued that much of what Shooter had to say about what would become of the comic book industry has come to pass, especially in light of Disney's purchase of the Marvel brand. I didn't think anything TC (or Shooter) had to say was hyperbolic or negative for the sake of being negative. In essence, it was just a restatement of the idea that corporate money ruins art, which isn't exactly a disingenuous Birthday Party Clown hot take.

Zack obviously didn't watch TCs video, he's just responding to the title. He is playing Birthday Party Clown with opinions he disagrees with. TC made the video because Shooter's proposal was just released for the first time and he found it prescient and relevant. He wasn't digging up Jim Shooter's corpse to dunk on comics Zack loves. Zack's inexplicable newfound zeal for corporate slop has melted whatever was left of his mind. His ridiculous notion that "a new generation of fans are flooding into stores" is either an outright lie or pure hopium mingled with a generous portion of mental retardation. It's been a long time since I had a weekly comic habit, but I do make it into the local shops from time to time and the absolute ONLY thing in a comics shop kids are interested in is manga. I went to a regional comics show a few months back and it was full of kids...buying manga and anime related merch. Comic shops are still closing every month and new ones aren't being opened. Zack likes the same shit middle aged men have been buying for the last 30 or 40 years. The new generation of fans is interested in things Zack has no interest in and no goddamn clue about.

Indeed,. And TC even asked his viewers to give Zack some slack when he started going krazy against the FNT people and conservative dentists. Not only that, back in 2018 Meyer frequently used Jim Shooter as an example of how to do things right in comics

Edit; To be clear, Van Sciver did publish a book called My Struggle, probably trying to stir shit up by echoing the Mein Kampf title, however, since forever Ethan's been a compulsive, stupid edgelord rather than outright antisemite. Of course, the problem is that when you're an edgelord you run the risk of being taken at face value. So there's that.
