I don't get his reasons beyond EJ being significantly more successful than him in a fraction of the time.

I don't even understand what some of these people are even here for. Like that nigga in the screenshot literally ONLY talks about Trump and politics. He doesn't even talk about drama. EVS isn't even terribly fun to listen to as someone who enjoys drama. He sounds like he's bored, his commentary is equally boring, and he's so passive aggressive he isn't as ruthless about it as someone like PPP. LOL

I get why EVS is miserable. He stupidly chose the wrong horse(which made no sense anyway because FNT was massive then and is still now. The anti-sjw sphere is much bigger and ironically enough more diverse than it was when CG was around.) so he's stuck with this shrunken cult of weird dissident far-right types who only want to see him shit on Eric for the crime of being black.

Those are not insignificant reasons for Ethan to do something.

His whole "power" on the internet and over the other people in comicsgate was based around him being the biggest and most important crowdfunder. Him being the biggest meant that he could make or break the campaigns of other people. Other people had to come beg him for favors and so on. Eric July overtaking him, having bigger campaigns and so on would undermine everything Ethan had built.

The second thing is that by making fast delivery an explicit talking point, Eric July was attacking the core of the comicsgate business model. I think Richard even as much as said it once a while ago. They didn't want to make comics fast or deliver monthly comics or have jobs like the old comics industry where you had to deliver work every 30 days. The idea of people paying for comics up-front before they were made and letting creators work on them for a year or two or however long they wanted gave them a working life in comics that was superior to any job in mainstream published comics.

Creating comics on deadlines or having comics done before the crowdfunding would just ruin everything that crowdfunding had given them. It would in EVS's mind as bad as working for DC or marvel again. EVS and company had stumbled into what was to them a perfect business model to make comics with. People were giving them essentially a perpetual income and letting them do whatever they wanted. And Eric July was going to ruin their perfect little world.

Ethan's mistake was in mis-timing his heel turn on Eric July. I think he always intended to do it. But he mis-read the room around the time of Riley going after July. He thought he sensed weakness in July at that moment and could break him like he had broken other people before him. But he was wrong. Eric July, whatever his faults, wasn't as dumb as the usual people EVS went after were. And it turned out that EVS was already by that point not top dog in comics anymore to alot of his allies. YellowFlash (whatever his faults) clearly saw that the business argument put a higher value on being on good terms with Eric July than Ethan van Sciver. Alot of those former fandom menace people also clearly saw that there was more upside to Eric July than Being loyal to EVS.

And once he started going after Eric July, EVS had no choice to make it literally to the death of one or the other. Because backing down to anyone would destroy the power he had over his own followers and creators that he had been exercising since 2018.

I found this pic in the thread and had a good chuckle and then checked the IGG delivery due date and they had December 2021 as the time for when Reignbow the Brute would be delivered.

How the fuck can someone be 4+ years late on a 48 page book, and might even become 5 years late.

EVS must be costing himself customers galore.

The history of this book goes back to CG-adjacent Nerkish being declared haram by comicsgate/EVS in 2018. There was dissent within CG over doing this initially and people didn't understand it. Because in public it was about politics and free speech. Though behind the scenes it was more about Nerkish not enforcing EVS's fatwa against Tim Lim. So EVS invented a new story about how Nerkish had just crushed Cecil's dream of making comics by being a free speech absolutist and not doing what Ethan told him to do. Poor Cecil. He was just a simple man with a dream of making comics and the enemies of comicsgate didn't understand that.

So Ethan got all full of himself and what a great guy he was. He was going to make it right. He was going to personally help poor abused Cecil make his dreams of making a comic book come true. That had come up with this great "funny" idea called Reignbow Brute. Ethan would draw it and Cecil would write it. It would be genius. It would be the greatest thing ever written. Then everyone got drunk on the grift and they had raised over half a million for a crowdfunded book that was totally stupid. Everyone had to give. Give for a bad dumb comic that was a parody of a show for girls in the 1980s. Because we had to do it for the love of Cecil.

Ethan was happy. CG was happy and everyone was on board that Nerkish was CG Hilter who wanted to publish racist nazi comics and get CG banned from all platforms. And Cecil had attached himself like the leach he is to Ethan. And both of them moved on to other things.

The problems were:

1) The comic was stupid
2) Cecil went to work on his own comic (Cashgrab) and had no interest in working in this stupid comic.
3) Ethan's art production rate is so slow that he couldn't do two projects at the same time. And if he had to make a choice, Cyberfrog comics were always going to be the art he would be doing because that is where the big money was.
4) Ethan had attached at least one really complex extra in the project. A metal lunchbox. Fulfilling that particular item in the way the project specified it (as a container for the comic) was going to be really time consuming and expensive to fulfill.
5) Its assumed that Ethan has to split the money from the book in some way with Cecil. That reduces EVS's incentives to work on the book even more.




I think Ethan was just hoping that everyone would just forget this stupid comic and he could just pocket the money. And for several years, he got away with that.

Cash Grab originally featured Tim Lim, Nerkish and Cecil before that fat faggot toad decided to poison the well of comicsgate with his smug duper's delight. The Reignbow the Queer Bullshit came later in some dumb drunk stream..

Before EVS stole him to be part of his rip-off wack pack Howard Stern retardation, Cecil ran outside main comicsgate circles making Youtube vids as an overly soy liberal comic collector critiquing woke comics as if Iceman was the greatest thing on earth (a stretch for him, i know)- a direct ribbing of Ya Fag Zack vids called "Dick and Comix" mocking him and his channel. His first "collaboration" was actually with Nerkish as a constant regular and co-host on Nerk's early darkhumored and amusingly offensive streams reviewing bizarre internet clips and laughing at the retarded.

Cecil a comic collector/fan and starting to be noticed by Evan at this point, Nerk, being friends with Lim, and everyone all still cool under the early days of the Comicsgay umbrella, set out to write and Illustrate Cash Grab, an idea that gestated on Nerk's show between he and Cecil as a bit of a joke. The demise of this collaboration was the result of one of the earlier Frog Fag pressure purges regarding Tim covered elsewhere here.

As Strix said, in the end Van Scammer (remember of "My Struggle" fame?), crybullied NAZI!!! the loudest and painted Nerkish's discord as an place for DANGEROUS antisemites, forcing him to wisely wash his hands of the whole lot of them. Lim decided to go make actual money instead of listing to a lispy blowhard that gossips like a woman, Cecil suffered through the divorce of his wife and this book and went on to rebuild Cash Grab and his life, and EVS finally got his gay dancing monkey in Cecil the talent he'd coveted all along, proving that yes indeed, Daddy Can Rape Them All.

The initial collaborations with Nerkish were on EVS's main comicsgate show. The one in that era (2018) were there were usually about 10 people on stream and none of them had a sense of humor. But Cecil and Nerkish developed a degree of comedy chemestry on Ethan's streams.....often the only humor to be found there. Ethan - without them on the show - called Nerkish and Cecil his "wack pack" several times and that is kind of what he thought of them at the time.

Then Cecil came up with an idea of creating a parody of Ethan's show with the fandom menace people "the high council"(?) which was at first called "the dark council" and then "cancercast". It was a show with maybe six people that were nominally associated with Nerkish and reacted to nerkish style clip material as a group. The show never really worked. But it was a great train wreck sort of show. They would guests like Doug TenNapel. Doug immediately highjacked the show he was on into a christian theology debate attempting to convert Nerkish (which he ironically did a couple years later) to christianity. Cecil however got really angry at the christian stuff and wanted to talk about stuff like porn.

Nerkish also convinced EVS to guest on a cancercast and that was a different kind of disaster. EVS got on stream and then just said nothing. It was silent and it became apparent that he was doing something else while on the show. At the end of the show he did a meanless set of comments about "funny" they all were and left.

Cancercast eventually kind of broke down. During one of the streams, Cecil dropped off and started his own stream and soliciated his own superchats to kind of make a point about who was the star of the show. I don't think he ever came back after that. And the show completely died when EVS and Nerkish started openly fighting. Along with everything else Nerkish had been doing up until then.

I used to chill with Nerkish, Sashi, etc in DMs so I can confirm. Nerkish was one of the endpoints for CG. There wasn't much unity among the people there. People were all fighting each other and forming gay factions. After EVS came in the movement was pretty much fucked. Zack surrendered his audeince to EVS and stopped streaming as well.

One of CG's main issues back then was that some of the main guys like Englentine couldn't draw.. They really had no "bite" outside of EVS, YellowFlash, JSG, WeaponizedNerdrage, and Zack so people gravitated to Zack. Zack was just a grifter, EVS was just a usurper looking to coast, and at the time the others were too small.

Ironically CG under glorious Frog Lord's leadership turned into what SJWs called it. A cult for disgruntled old white dudes who hate on minorties and women.
