What gets me the most about Richard is how, despite being a 50-something-year-old manchild who's been consuming media forever, his tastes are still amazingly shallow, basic, and slop-centric. They only extend to capeshit, a very tiny handful of indie comics, and a lot of shitty blockbusters and TV shows. He doesn't read classic literature. He can't quote niche television, or high art cinema (not even the more mainstream ones like Hitchcock or Kubrick). He doesn't really read European or Latin American comics. And he DESPISES anime and manga and especially hates how popular they are among the youth. He's just an uncultured, overly nostalgic Gen X dimwit.

His becoming the Golden Unc of ComicsGate really was just dumb luck and him being at the right place at the right time.
He also likes G.I. Joe. That is about as much as his tastes go. He also dislikes works with magic.

The only reason he was able to become Golden Unc was because of the support he got from Malin and EVS for the second version of Jawbreakers. The relationship between EVS and Richard prior to 2018 is one of the great mysteries of comicsgate. Its also worth noting that Ethan and Malin both used Richard's false persecution narrative to increase their own audience and to promote their own projects by association. And being associated with Richard allowed EVS in particular to advance his own false narrative that he was a political victim who had been driven from the comics industry.

Few people understood in 2018 that Richard had crowdfunded Jawbreakers years before and had never delivered it. The original jawbreakers, drawn by Richard, was amaturish unpublishable trash. Without Malin drawing the story and EVS doing the cover, I doubt Jawbreakers would have sold much of anything. Or that Richard would have got anything like the attention he got.

We've covered this before, there is no "false" persecution narrative.

Richard was kicked off Kickstarter for politics, the email has been posted many times in this thread. Mark Waid personally called up Antarctic Press and got his deal nixed. There was a bunch of pressure from figures in the industry and their leftist catspaws to get him deplatformed everywhere. This is a matter of public record.

EVS was never going to be allowed to continue at DC being an open right winger. Anyone paying attention during the last decade knows that. Hell anyone paying attention during the last four decades would know. Chuck Dixon was drummed out of the mainstream industry for his opinions. This happens in all corners of the entertainment industry, unless you can fund yourself making indie stuff like Clint Eastwood does. If you're a right winger your only recourse is to shut up like Chris Pratt if you don't want it to seriously derail you.

This is all basic stuff. Just because Zack and EVS went gay doesn't change the facts (they were always gay).

Actually Meyer still drew Jawbreakers issue #1 he just had some help to make it more palatable, the art still ended up being dogshit though. Malin drew the awful Jawbreakers meets Donkey Kong story "Lost Souls". Issue #2 is the best one and it was drawn and colored by Kelsey Shannon. This was all together in the first graphic novel.

He should have stuck with Kelsey for all of his other Jawbreakers work but I'm guessing it would have cost him more money so he went with a Filipino artist.

Basically, Richard's story was good casting for ComicsGate, and he ended up being carried by people with actual talent. But he, himself, has no talent. So when the people carrying him were gone he went back to his level. That's why he's mainly notable right now for being a lolcow. I don't see him making passable comics ever again, and as a media critic, he's terrible. One of the weirder things is him talking about media literacy when he is an example of someone entirely uncultured.

Nothing about music either. The only reason the youth love anime and manga is because western animation and American comics suck fat shit in comparison. It's like they gave up. As for European and LatAM comics, I highly recommend The Incal, Technopriests, and Metabarons alongside Mort Cinder, Eternaut, and Eternaut 1969. Frankly, you are crippling yourself if you exclusively focus on capeshit. You could read comics your entire life and not touch Marvel and DC.

Well. The first thing to correct is the idea that Ethan was a "right winger". What Ethan has always been is a two-faced fraud who fed people whatever he thought they wanted to hear. If he was trying (as he did after his divorce) to bang land whale Gail Simone, he was a Trump-hating social justice warrior. If he was talking to his audience of podcast morons, the message was totally different. And anyone who has followed comicsgate from the start will tell you, the people wanted out of comicsgate the most was anyone associated with the right wing. That is why all the right wingers are gone and comicsgate is full of degenerate gay guys like Cecil, Malin, Shane. Literal whores were more welcome in comicsgate than anyone with right-wing politics.

And then there is the matter of Ethan leaving DC. Ethan wasn't fired from DC or made to leave DC. Ethan negotiated an agreement with Dynamite Comics in 2018. He visited them in early 2018 and showed it in a video (long erased of course). Dynamite published and fulfilled the first Cyberfrog comic for EVS. Almost everything he said and did in 2018 was eventually proved to be lies.

Which is true up to a point. The point being that Richard had other publishers and other opportunities to publish the book. And turned them all down. That is one of the big reasons his lawsuit collapsed. One of the big lies of 2018 was that Richard was being completely prevented from publishing Jawbreakers except by crowdfunding. That was simply not true. He could have published it in the mainstream and decided not to.

And where was he ever deplatformed? Not youtube. Not kickstarter. Not Indigogo.

The most trouble he every got into was over his so-called "dark roast" where he went after people in mainstream comics way over the line and didn't think that they could ever find out. Even thought he was doing it on a released video.

There really isn't much need for more threads on any of these comicsgate and comicsgate-adjacant personalities. They are all easily covered here. And the problem associated with writing an OP on Ethan or new op for comicsgate, is that most of whats happened is extremely boring and not funny. Its a bunch of unfunny people feuding constantly with other sets of boring unfunny people over things that don't mean much. Or at least that is where I got to every time I thought I might want to work on a new op.
I think, at this point, it would be an enormous undertaking with very little payoff, and a fairly low traffic thread.

I always thought Dongs could write an exceptionally good OP that covers the early history of EVS, and perhaps you could too, but the longer this goes on the less likely I think new people would much of give a shit about early CG history. A lot of it, as you say, is not funny.

What's funny is that I feel like knowledge of EVS across the entire site is higher than it's ever been (mostly thanks to the crossover with Juju, Juju's minions, and Rekieta), but that it's mainly limited to Ethan being known as "that fat guy who takes three million years to release a fucking comic book, and is obsessed with destroying a black guy for being more successful than him."

And really... if you think about it... that might be all the average person really needs to know about Ethan anymore. That's Ethan's legacy to people who don't really follow CG.

I would agree with that. If anything new were written or attempted, it should focus on contemporary CG and keep mentions of old CG to a minimum. The tipping point (IMO) would be around when Ethan turned on Eric July and the things that have happened after that. Whatever it used to be, CG is right now a cow movement led by people who don't make comics complaining about people who do make comics. and old men like Richard shouting at the clouds,

EVS is very lucky that he doesn't have his own dedicated thread that highlights how unbelievably ridiculous his campaign against Eric July has been.

If there were such a dedicated thread, it might attract some new melanated folk to the forum who would want to read the thread just for that.
