Beano and Dandy are/were published by the same company. I think one of the comics was going to die either way so I wouldn't necessarily say that Dandy's death was down to digital distribution. In my opinion its just that there is no market left for comic books. They are way too violent and sweary and expensive and long to be for children but a lot of those same issues mean that comics aren't exactly fit for adults these days either. Its a product with no market.

People point to manga or even to some of the more successful indie comics, but at that point you won't be publishing monthly issues of an individual character, which seems to be what old-school fans are trying to save.

Not entirely. Look at CD PROJEKT RED. A studio that prides itself on making its games worthwhile, even its DLC, and doesn't care about sexualizing women in their games. GamerGate didn't save them or anything but I wouldn't be surprised if it gave them and devs like them room to be emboldened about disregarding certain aspects of political correctness. I think GamerGate largely failed for three reasons:
1. The wrong people getting on pro-GamerGate side, as pointed out by MisterMetokur previously.
2. Trying to position themselves as centrist to appeal to "normies" and becoming defensive in justifying their movement. They should of just kept attacking. This was also previously pointed out by Metokur.
3. The people who refused to acknowledge the underlying motive behind GamerGate, preventing feminists from shitting up games, because "lol fucking autists".
Go ahead and call me a sped but look at Mass Effect then and now and you can get an idea of the point I'm trying to make.

I'd argue it failed because Moot kicked them out of 4chan and because they cared what cable tv and the newspapers were saying about them. Since when did internet people EVER care about what the media was saying about them? If they were allowed to just stick to /v/ and mock the bullshit they would have won eventually (and at least in the circles I run in they did win.)

Ehhhhh, I'd argue it's the same thing with shonen manga heroes, too. The publishers tend to draw them out for a long, long time (see Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z for some good examples), but they don't have the constant "crossover event and reboot" issues North American comics have. Then again, manga has its own set of problems that some conveniently gloss over when getting into the "Western comics v. Manga" pissbaby match.

I tend to stick with indies and graphic novels nowadays. Less corporate mandates and a lot more experimental freedom to be had. I may rail on Gail Simone, but 'Clean Room' is surprisingly sharp and well-put together. And 'I Hate Fairlyland' might not be to everyone's taste and will probably overstay its welcome (Skottie Young is a damn good artist, but his writing skills are hit or miss), but it hits my dark humor sensibilities in a good way.
 
Holy shit, Kelly Sue DeConnick? I'm pretty sure I went to high school with that stuck-up bitch. I see she's lost some weight, but she's more smug than ever.

D&C was the guy who made the Iron Heart as a villain story, yeah? For you comic enthusiasts on the farms, can you recommend me a good anime/manga/comic/show where the villain is actually the MC and is painted a hero? I love those ever since I played SpecOps.

I'd be amazed if you haven't already read or seen it, but Death Note is a pretty blatant example of this.

Bomb Queen is the only one I can think of, but that series will sometimes come up during one of /co/'s rollicking 'Storytime of Pain' events during SDCC every summer.

As far as major cape comics go, Sinestro (of Green Lantern fame) had his own ongoing series a while back, as did Larfleeze. The former you kinda needed to know what was going on at the time, and the latter was a fairly standalone series that didn't necessarily require prior knowledge of the Green Lantern series to get.

I'm not sure. I recall her from only one class, something in the social studies part of the curriculum. She was a beach ball with medium to dark brown hair, she wore problem glasses before the term existed, and she clearly thought the world of herself. I associate her with the drama club, although I'm not sure if she was a member or just had that general attitude.

I wish the Watergate Hotel had a sillier last syllable in its name. Just imagine if it had been named the Waterbutt. We'd have Gamerbutt, Comicsbutt, Ratherbutt...
