Honestly do many of Marvel's problems can be traced back to their lack of capable editors and editorial oversight. Editors tend to not be given a lot of attention because they've gotten a bad rap over the years about editorial mandates completely ducking up books, but it's made people forget that a good editor is just as important to the process as the artist and writer because it's the editor's job to stop writers and artists from shitting the bed with terrible ideas and unprofessional mistakes - both tasks Marvel editors have been seriously slacking on, if they even bother to do it at all.

Just look at what an editor-less Bendis has vomitted out in the last few years to see why they're necessary.

I wonder if the book starts doing good all a sudden, would Marvel notice what was the problem? the art was major reason no one liked SG, the story was always cringey but the "art"? My god (3 pages of the latest issue, enjoy :^) ):

they charge $5 an issue for this and can't understand why it's not selling?

Ha! These books sell literally billions of copies. Muh Comixology, Muh Marvel Unlimited, Muh Scholastic Book Fairs. New channels that don't get counted via Diamond and avoid the swamp of sexism, misogyny and questionable personal hygiene that is your LCS. Or so Bleeding Cool assures us. What source could be more objective?

Getting a new artist won't help much if she's still doing the covers. If it still has the same shovelfaced mongoloids on the outside, people will assume it still looks like that on the inside too.

jesus christ

that's not even webcomic-tier art

The best part is that she can actually draw decently well but makes everyone ugly on purpose because something something patriarchy.

The fact that they had to regularly hire multiple better artists to make variant covers just to trick people into buying the comic the first time around should've been a heads up that her artwork is marketability suicide, but new Marvel artists work for peanuts (I think one survey showed average Marvel page rates are some of the lowest in the industry for supposedly biggest comic publishers) and it seems they aren't willing to give that up just yet.

Yeah no. Having seen some of her portfolio work and attempts at "realism" that shit is literally the best she can do. She just says people who don't like her art are just mad she doesn't make people conventionally attractive because otherwise she would have to admit that she can't draw for crap.

On one of the D&C podcasts he claims an insider told him that Squirrel Girl is literally the "diversity book" for being fat and ugly. As in, the execs came down and said "We're going to have a Latino book, a female book, a 'body-positive' book" and so on.

If that's true then they might've gotten ugly down (especially in Henderson's art) but Doreen isn't that heavy. Maybe if she was at least like 20 to 30 pounds bigger.

Holy fuck I literally cringed.

You'd get fired from IDW for garbage like this.

She literally said it was deliberately to piss off the fans.

Then they're amazed this fucking garbage doesn't sell.

Holy fuck, I'm glad I missed what happened to Squirrel Girl.

This is actually pretty common from what I've seen. "What? You disagree with me but you aren't white? Liar, stop wearing digital blackface!"

EDIT: Decided to separate the Campi rant, much to point and laugh at individually than lumped into this post.

The "you don't sound black!" argument is a classic. No one can ever describe what that even means and accents don't even work like that. You effectively bait yourself by making that accusation.

I know they meant "You don't have an accent I associate with black people" but what they said could be followed by "What do black people sound like?".

She apparently can only draw one nose. And of course it's an ugly weird mashed down one.

Essentially, de Campi's tactic is, "Anybody who criticizes me is a straight, white cis male who voted for Trump! There's no way a POC or LGBT person would ever disagree with me!"

Who even is Squirrel Girl? I don't remember that one from the brief periods in 1993-95 and 2005-07 I was into cape comics.
Doreen Green was created in 1991 by Steve Ditko. She's mostly supposed to be a parody of the genre with the gag being someone like her defeating people like Dr. Doom without much difficulty (usually off-panel). She was in limbo after her first story until the early 2000s where she was brought back as part of the Great Lake Avengers and later as a babysitter for Luke Cage's daughter at the end of the decade. Some people point at her first story as justification for Henderson's ugly style but that's just Ditko being shit at drawing people if we're going to be brutally honest and Squirrel Girl is supposed to be plain/average looking, not whatever you'd call her nowadays. You barely missed both periods she was known for before the current incarnation.

If you want the TL;DR version of that, one of the guys behind the creation of Spider-Man came up with the concept for One Punch Man decades earlier but it didn't catch on and wasn't used effectively before they shit the bed by making it some Tumblr comic.

That is just disgusting.

A woman breaks the law to resolve an alleged injustice that could be solved legally and a country wants to give her asylum for an admitted criminal act.

That's aiding and abetting, and the idiot who wrote this wants me to cheer for the admitted crook and those helping said crook escape punishment?
I ran those panels by a friend and she brought up an interesting point. Trianary here basically only helped the women who are privileged enough to even HAVE bank accounts. This pretty much leaves out anyone who works in sweatshops or is just paid in cash. Plus the women who got their accounts topped off will probably be in a bit of trouble when the authorities sort through all those transactions and be brought up on embezzlement charges.
