Leonard French makes a video on the D&C/Waid mess:

This is good. It rambles a bit but he gets into the issue of unfair competition as well. Also a guest appearance by Jamie Walton at the end.

Fascinating. A lot of non comic non mainstream media is starting to pick this up.

It seems there's a possibility of the insane narrative not being blindly accepted for a change that evil Nazis and racist alt-right comic book fans are persecuting innocent comic book artists by not buying absolute garbage.

If you're literally conspiring to burn books, you don't get to pretend to be the good guy.

How amazing would it be to see Brian Visaggio and Mark Waid shitcanned?

What a stupid hill to die on. Learn to keep your damn mouths shut. No one cares about your stupid politics and opinions.

Mark Waid will probably get shitcanned, Bryan however has a troon forcefield that repels all professionalism and sanity around him.

Mags I’m pretty sure is a freelancer. If DC is displeased the work will simply dry up. I think Waid may actually be finding himself quickly more toxic and blacklisted than D&C. Nobody wants an unexploded ticking time bomb of legal liability, which is what he has become at this point. He’s a Wound up ball of anger management issues, bad publicity and customer interaction, and anticompetitive practices.

They were okay with him continually acting like a complete shithead and insulting their customers for a long time. Actually exposing them to a possible FTC case and a lawsuit that could cost the Mouse a lot of money is not something they're likely to overlook.

Edit, while the comic press is talking about creators incensed that AP would work with Meyer, there would seem to be a number of creators quietly pissed at what happened to him, and how AP treated him. Not for any love of D&C, but because the same outrage bomb could be randomly dropped on them for any spurious reason. Much like it was done to Howard Chaykin last year. Publishers not backing creators and the idea of an industry blacklist controlled by the likes of Mark Waid is horrifying to them. Many of whom know Waid to be an asshole. These insiders are starting to leak like an “as seen on tv” garden hose.

If Waid really did swing his dick at AP and dropped Marvel's name in the process, that both sets a terrible precedent and can get Mark's ass shitcanned by the big M. Marvel isn't going to sit back and let their employees abuse their name to win internet slap fights, and most creators won't be too keen on spergs like Waid having the power to fuck their careers up with a single email or phone call.

Ya know, I am really glad this flamewar has blossomed like it has. I was worried it would fizzle out but shit just keeps getting better and better.

I really thought things were calming down with all the pros keeping quiet while Jawbreakers was getting crowdfunded. Who the fuck would have guessed the gigantic chimp out that would be coming. Shits getting good and I got a feeling we haven’t even reached the climax.

This is glorious. I didn't back Jawbreakers, since I'm chronically poor, but now I almost want to just for the joy of owning a little piece of a true autistic flamewar.

Also, Our Boi Zack is showing a little bit of common sense. He was livestreaming last night, and someone asked him about Mister Metokur's interest in this little slapfight. He said something along the lines of "Metokur is great, but he's scary. Once he roasts you, there's no coming back from that. Your only option is to go to Wal-Mart and buy a shotgun and one shell, because you're done." He also talked about not adding any more reward tiers to the project, because he doesn't want to promise the moon and fall on his face. He said his motto was "Under-promise, over-deliver," or something like that. I wish more IndieGogo/Kickstarter project creators thought along those lines.

Also also, we all know Zack is the one who did the B&E. He clearly stopped in on his way back from the latest Klan rally.

I don't know about you guys, but when I rob a comic book store, I definitely take change out of the register and leave the expensive comics and collector items behind.

Also, when I run a comic book shop, I leave my register open with money inside and not locked away in a bank because.. I have nothing. It makes no sense.

The owner of Variant comics said earlier on twitter today that coins were taken. This actually makes perfect sense, because the robbery happened overnight. A lot of stores, when closing up, will leave the registers open with the change for the next day in them for opening shift. Either that, or the robber found any coin rolls they had out that weren't in a safe.

Yeah, that's what I gathered from twitter too. I know a lot of places that leave the register open take the tray or money out to store in a small safe until morning. This really smells more like a random person seeing an easy way for a few bucks rather than someone actually targeting the store. A target would aim to hurt, do some kind of damage. Also, this could be a complete lie on their part to hurt the reputation of a few people that offended them.

If they broke in and all they took was coinage from the cash register it means they were robbed by a likely homeless junkie looking for a quick score for immediate needs. They just want money, anything else is too complicated and time consuming, and they have no aversion to coins. This isn’t rocket science people. I’m thinking there is not a particularly huge population of homeless meth head D&C followers in the Edmonton area.

I think if it was a false flag, they'd have spraypainted a swastika on it or something. I think they just seized on a random minor crime committed on the property to lie about it being someone they hate.

I think that this the primary reason this thing didn't reach the autism threshold of Gamergate (yet), a lot of the autism here is asymmetrical, it's basically one side being somewhat spergy and obsessive about their beloved comicbooks, but rarely making any moves beyond some YT videos or some tweets, and the other side throwing all the shit at all the walls at all times.

The absolute most I can say against the Comicsgate crowd is that I don't like their video style of just flicking on OBS and rambling, but I get that's me being spergy. Otherwise, Zach has largely kept his private life away from this outside of instances like Tim Doyle digging up his child support payments.

When they catch the criminal I wonder if the dangerhair will scream at the police to check his YT history and who he follows on Twitter.

I like how the CG crowd has been mostly taking a less autistic high road. The anti cg group been a riot of woke stupidity. I am really hoping Waid gets shit canned and Tim Doyle gets a libel suit tossed his way. I want the salt mines to overflow.

It is much harder to argue against CG as there isn't a central figure like a Zoe or Anita for the harassment narrative to center around, instead it's a bunch of Twitter psychos shrieking. It is kind of like if the central people of GG had been Beks & Nora Reed, really hard for anyone to want to really rally around them.

Lots of small stores WILL leave their registers unlocked with a bit of cash in them overnight. This is actually loss mitigation thing. Losing a few dollars is better than buying a new register or safe if someone comes in and ruins it trying to get 20 bucks.

That part is perfectly reasonable.
