It started with the speculator bubble of the early to mid-nineties where a bunch of idiots thought that Youngblood #1 was going to be the next Action Comics #1. Here is the thing that they failed to realize: Golden Age comic were worth thousands because they were rare. Recycling during World War II meant that many of these books ended up pulped and then there was the moral panic of the fifties where people tossed them in bonfires. Issues of 1991's X-Men #1 and Superman (vol. 2) #75 sold in the millions so there is a more than ample supply of them.

.

The biggest reason older comics were so rare is because they were like newspapers or magazines. Written and published to be transient. Not to be kept and collected. No one in the 60's pulled out archivists gloves to read comics. They got read, passed around, shared, re-read, mangled, decayed and eventually got tossed.

They were also not on acid-free paper, much less the kind of paper that would be serviceable for archival. So they tend to decay just because of the contents of the paper itself. Fats from fingertips touching them also degrade to acid and eventually have an impact on the paper. This is why the few dozen or so copies of Action Comics #1 are so rare and valuable, especially the even fewer that are in excellent condition.

EVS indigogo has finished totaling $532,689 in 60 days. It ended up gaining an extra ~$60,000 in the last 48h. That's beat the total of the FTL diversity kickstarter a few pages back by ~$9,000 in the last 48h alone. Removed pic because @damian beat me to it, but EVS did mention at the end of live-stream just now that he is taking down the store in the morning. So not too much more should come in. Now he has to sign and ship more than 15,000 comic books and ashcans

I cant stop thinking about this clip - Marvel / comics collapse and the crowd being the SJW pros. 'Well my family can't live in good intentions Marge!'

@damian thanks for reposting that 'comicsgate leader' video

It's nice of the cancer that they took over Marvel just when it was getting irrelevant anyway. They seem to think they can act as gatekeepers, but they're being bypassed because nobody gives a fuck about them.

But it's totally OK when SJWs abuse Patreon as a money circle jerk in order to artificially inflate their numbers and their egos!

At least the "Nazis" actually produce a product instead of just smoking all the kickstarter funds and doing nothing.

I've never understood this phenomenon in SJW culture, they all support each other for roughly the same amounts through Patreon. Good work you've just lost 5+% of your money (Patreon cut +fees) for nothing. I guess clique noteworthiness is worth 5+% to these people.

Kinda funny - but it's not racist when we do it!

Horseshoe theory time: grown-ass men and women screaming at each other over transgender themes in spideyman or whatever this dumb bullshit is about are always gay and retarded, no matter whose side they're on and what their opinions are.

Through the second quarter of their fiscal year, IDW has lost over $ 6 million dollars. Chump change if you're Disney, pretty scary if your annual sales are under $70 million. As is the case with IDW. But doubtless "respect in your industry" offsets that, and more.

As an aside, anyone know anything about the new top dog at IDW? He's clearly a TV guy, a "creative," and not one that strikes me as likely to swing the ax if cuts need to be made.

Are all of these by people associated or loosely associated to Comicsgate?

Yep. IIRC two of them (Del Arroz and Northcott) are also in some way associated with Vox Day's budding publishing empire. I did have to look up Mike S. Miller, him I'd never heard of before.

Edit: I was wrong about Northcott being associated w/Day. See below.

This is why I can see some of the trash SJW comics might be valuable in the future. No one bought them and most were tossed away. Emphasis on might.

Especially the comic book industry. It's a husk of its former glory. T-shirts are more important than comics now. If comics come back it'll be in despite not because of "the industry."

That's pretty surprising. Considering the Northcott Kickstarter seems to have quite a few progressive people chipping in. I'm actually kinda interested in it just based on the art and I'll probably back it.

Miller is also interesting to find out he's associated with Comicsgate. His stuff is pretty good and I was a fan of his art in the run of Injustice.

I'm pretty optimistic about the future of comics coming out of counter cultute of Marvel and DC. I kinda hope they take the big two down a peg.
