Don't forget Funimation's localization of Prison School which included a GamerGate Jab, and Hajimete no Gal/My First Girlfriend which had shoehorned politics in it, and another example I couldn't remember.

I don't play DnD and never heard of DnDgate, but I'm not surprised there's a DnDgate. I heard complaints that they gave Strahd a male love interest in the 5th edition version of Ravenloft and thus destroyed his character in the process, and DnD 5e has a small section about gender.

On Thursday, August 23rd, tSpider-Gwen (Marvel) and Goddess Mode (DC’s Vertigo) creator Robbi Rodriguez tweeted a set of two graphic images depicting close-ups of an uncensored male anus to prominent ComicsGate figure Ethan Van Sciver.The bizarre tweets were unprompted, as there had been no recent interactions between the two creators. The tweets were quickly deleted, but not before users were able to grab screenshots of the offending tweets.

Following the deletion of these tweets, Rodriguez deleted every Tweet on his account (though Twitter’s official site lists the account as having 6 Tweets, nothing loads when his page is accessed). He also amended the Twitter account’s bio to read “this is also parody account.” However, this is an attempt to save face, as internet archives prove that the parody descriptor was only added to the 10 year old Twitter account’s bio after the deletion of the questionable tweets,

Rodriguez’s tweets may have been spurred by his opposition to the ComicsGate movement. The recent movement has caused a bitter civil divide within the world of comic book fans and comic book professionals, with many fans and professionals declaring their staunch opposition to the movement and attacking people who claim to support it. Ethan Van Sciver was most likely the recipient of these tweets due to his very public support of ComicsGate.

As of this article, neither Marvel nor DC have issued a comment or statement regarding the Tweets. While most discourse and argument that has taken place between ComicsGate and its opponents has been mostly relegated to internet forums and verbal exchanges, Rodriguez’s Tweets introduce a new element of disgust and unprofessionalism. Rodriguez also proves that harassment in the debate is not one sided, as it is so often claimed, but is carried out by nasty individuals on both sides of the aisle.

Just as the actions of one man do not represent those of ComicsGate, the actions of one man do not represent an entire movement or company. Rodriguez’s actions were his choice alone, but the industry wide silence on this harassment is telling, with fans uncertain whether the industry condemns or promotes such behavior. However, one thing is for certain: Robbi Rodriguez has made an ass of himself.

Remember how certain people overreacted to a few below the belt jokes from a decade ago byJames Gunn that wouldn’t have been out of place in Monty Python or South Park that supposedly got him fired from Guardians Of The Galaxy? Anyway, there was more pearl-clutching going on this weekend when Robbi Rodriguez, co-creator of Spider-Gwen and the upcoming Goddess Modefor DC/Vertigo, decided to show Ethan Van Sciverexactly what he thought of him after the Darwyn Cooke kerfuffle. By baring his ass cheeks at him and tweeting the result, stating ‘Hey, I made some f** off tweets but also fuck youncomic gaterers, and really f-ck @EthanVanSciver hope the gay frogs that gave you the best In Youre life. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd. I misss you. ‘

Apparently, this is a hate crime, or at least this is how it’s being spun by people who want a double-Gunn moment. And are trying to get him fired from DC Comics. Even managing to get Neil Gaiman involved by talking about boycotting Sandman, also published by DC Comics.


All I know is that people came onto my timeline announcing they were boycotting all the Sandman stuff because a DC freelancer had sent something that pissed them off. They have been following that up with insults and invective. If they wanted me to be friends, they did it wrong.

My idea is like imagine if people kept saying "Is being black really essential to being Black Panther?" and demand a Chinese one. Chinese Black Panther gets made with ties to Chinese history/mythology. Now they get to claim being Chinese is essential and how dare you want the original back?

That's the direction I see the "Do they have to be white?" argument going in if you accept it. Plus maybe "Why do you want to take away things from minorities!? We haven't stopped the old stuff from existing!"

It's a valiant attempt, but anyone with any sense should know there is absolutely no way you can spin that as remotely professional behavior to be expected of an even minimally sane person.
