Ehhhh... comic book conventions aren't really comic cons anymore, per se: the comic-side of things has been eclipsed in recent years by the pop culture side of things. Hell, Alamo City Comic Con just recently announced Rick Moranis, Jeff Goldblum, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as guests. Let's be real: do you think average joe off the street would want to pay admission prices just to see people like Mark 'Manbaby' Waid, Aubrey Sitterson, or Maggs Visaggio? No, they'd rather pay to see Dark Helmet, Ian Malcom, or The Terminator. I've been to plenty of cons over the past few years (though I'm no longer going to them, because the costs get more outrageous by the year), and I can safely say that barely anyone spends any time at the legit comic dealer tables, and instead spend time looking at walls of overpriced Funko Pops and waiting in line for overpriced autographs and photo ops that barely last 5 seconds.

Comics, in regards to comicons, are completely fucked at this point.

:autism: time. Even if you think Gold Digger is cringy, the guy who made it has done well. He not only writes and draws a regular comic on his own, on schedule, he also found the time to make a game and support it. It's not some walking simulator or prefab unity game either, but a 3D SRPG. He did all that without the connections and support of the clique. Given the option, I'd take Gold Digger and other pseudo-manga instead of the political crap both sides of CG are putting out.

Not to mention he even animated a cartoon short, too. Fred Perry is a truly underrated gem, IMHO. Thank God none of the Big Two have swallowed him alive yet.

What amazes me is the sheer level of violent shrieking hysteria in proportion to what D&C has done which is basically saying "I don't like this very much." Then these mentally ill lunatics screech insanely for months like he's literally calling for a Holocaust. There was never any reason whatsoever to flip out on this guy in the first place.

This is beyond pathetic. The dude's career only spanned from 2000-2006, and then it's stalled since. Now he's trying to jump on the "CG IS HITLER!" bandwagon in order to push a failed 12 year old parody of Charlie Brown.

The difference is when gamers get bored of some stupid online tantrum like GG, they have something to do, and that's games. There are lots of them, and they're what gamers do.

What are CGers going to do? Comics are dead.

It's not that there isn't a market for them. It's just not being filled. The people actually "working" in comics, if you can call it that, are rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, and that's when they're not actively drilling holes in the hull.

Right now, Comicsgate is primarily against the practices of the publishers (Marvel, DC..etc), not the news sites (though those are also pathetic enough to ignore as well). To put this in GG terms, that's like going to war with EA or Activision after they let the craizes run them for a decade.

I think people should continue to vote with their dollars, while making it known to the companies how to get those dollars back. Though I honestly suspect that that won't be enough to sway those companies, the Cultural Marxism has really seeped in deep into their tissue, and there is no more sane people to tardwrangle the dumbasses running things.

Not to mention that it isn't even guaranteed to save the industry, there will have to be some seriously huge changes in how distribution and sales are managed for the trend to reverse, not just storylines.

They've only taken over at a level nobody gives a shit about except a few nerds, especially Marvel. At the level where decisions are made, they're practically oblivious to the existence of their comics division. They just throw away the garbage that comes out of that sector and do blockbuster movies.

Unless the loonies who took over Marvel somehow fuck things up badly enough they start impacting the movies, and I don't see how they do that from their grotty little encysted shit factory, they'll continue to be ignored.

The problem is it's the height of shit nobody cares about. I have barely read comics at all for decades and on the occasion I do, it isn't capeshit.

But something similar happened. Battlefield V: Pre orders down 85%. Mass Effect Andromida: Sequels cancelled and unopened copies flooded local goodwills. Tale of Tales: Out of business.

That is a good point, but that raises the question. Where are all the indie publishers or even foreign publishers that were previously unable to get a meaningful foothold in the states? You'd think they'd jump in and that comicsgate would buy their books.

There is a video by SFDebris that shows the complete mess that comics distribution is in in the US. But they aren't exactly in a position to be picky at this point.

It's not impossible though. They did affected the movies when they did Hydra Cap as a "WHITE AMERICA IS BIGOTED AND FASCIST" story. Normies couldn't tell the difference between movie Cap and comic Cap.

It'll happen eventually if they do more loud and highly publicized dismantling of their original cast.
 
Can somebody explain the clusterfuck that is Neil Gaiman vs. D&C/CG-generally currently cluttering my twitter feed? I can't make heads or tails of what is going on. It almost looks like Gaiman forgot his own CV or something, but I'm blocked by so many anti-CGers I'm doubtless missing a lot. tia and all that.

It’s in reference to the current crop of new hires being total unknowns with little to no history of work in the industry getting #1 titles on the Big 2 companies. Basically sperging about not-Riri Williams (forgot her name) getting hired when her only writing credits are poems and studies that no one has ever read.

That would probably be a good idea though it's impossible to coordinate anything like this and chances are they'll just make their own harassers which will drag them back in as they have to explain it.

Most indie publishers and foreign publishers do not publish superheroes. What exactly could the average American comics fan find to enjoy in the sort of things indie and foreign publishers have?
