Yesk it is. Dark oversaturated colors in Batman there are difficult to even make out images and boring to look at and it's a guy just standing there whining and gritting his teeth and doing nothing vs. a guy with dynamic action and bright colors. Thank you for illustrating the point perfectly. Batman there is EXACTLY why comics suck since the 90s. And it's exactly why books lost the audience and sell in the 10s of thousands instead of millions. It's terrible and not fun at all.
I can't believe it but I'm agreeing with JDA on this. I've made a few alterations to really emphasize how boring the "good example" really is.

bat action.jpg

Comics started declining in the 90's when the speculator boom went bust.

I've thought this as well for a very long time, but Dan Shahin's interviews with ancient comic book legends like Steve Geppi and Ron Turner giving first-hand perspective on the state the comic book industry was in 50 years ago and why they did what they did, like set up the direct market distribution system in the first place, has me suspecting that the American comic industry has been in decline since 1963 after Stan Lee and Jack Kirby founded Marvel, with brief resurgences since then.

I’m going to play Devil’s Advocate. I think it’s easy to come down on JDA’s work for more simplistic art but, when one takes into consideration that his recent books have cost about half the price of most crowdfunded books out there, less detailed but otherwise functional art is fine.

I think to compare Robotoad to Wart the Wizard, as someone did earlier, would require you to be legitimately blind because even I can draw better than whoever did the art for that dog shit.

I can see why your campaigns perform the way they do.

also, don’t think I don’t know about you bugging Ethan on twitter to let you in his group so you can get a bigger piece of the pie And bitching at him til he blocked you. Cuz you know, you only do it for the art, right?
He claims to replicate 80s so you bring a page from 2020 to prove him wrong. That's just stupid. Fuck, you CG paypigs are such fake experts on comics you make defend Jon The Disparate Stan Lee Cosplayer

As for comics art in general. There was always stiffness in both mainstream and indie, because many people are hired based on portfolios of sketches and pinups etc and drawing comics is a tad bit different: there you have to guide an eye with poses, composition and speech bubbles to create the sense of motion. This is a problem of all the commercial sequential art even manga. And yes CG is no different too. The majority of CG's "better art" are the same motionless shrunken down pinups just done in a style of a decade a CG drone feels the most nostalgic towards: Ethan does late 90s early 2000s Jim Lee, Malin goes for mid 90s Liefeld, tons of attempts to do the 80s by others. All is charged with some sad personal nostalgia.

but... isn’t Batman supposed to be dark and over saturated? I mean that’s been his thing since he was created in the 40’s. Also, comics started declining when they became less about heroes and more about spreading left wing political messages. I mean that is why Comicsgate became a thing, right?

It was except for this period:

For instance:

Wart the Wizard is cartoon crap, stipulated, but let's analyze this "art":downloadfile.png
-the proportions, anatomy, construction, & rhythm of the fingers are all atrocious. Are those knuckles? The fingernails don't follow the form; there isn't any form to follow. How does that flat paw attach to the "arm"? Why is the arm so badly foreshortened? Why is his left arm so much bigger than his right? And what's with the vestigial thumb?!

-is that supposed to be a human face? What light source would produce a shadow pattern like that? Why are his flat eyes so close together, & pasted on his flat face? WTF is with the mouth? And his flat row of uneven tooth shapes?

-the rendering is uniformly horrible. It's just feathering with no rhyme or reason. Fuck it, put some ink there & there. Form? Light source? Drama? ThAt'S nInEtIe'S sHiT!

-the art has no sense of design, & no appeal. This is the used toilet paper of crowdfunded comics.

We're looking at "100 monkeys with 100 crowquills" levels of shit. Just saying "It'S dIfFeReNt ThAn EtHaN" isn't enough to make it good. If Jon of the Rice is telling the truth (unlikely) that this is some professional artist, it's obviously--& sadly--one who's suffered a stroke & has amnesia, because he knows nothing about drawing. He's putting out crap, using his "I'm a victim of Ethan" line to sell a hundred or so copies to his paypigs, & then lying about why he hired cheap, shit-tier "artists", like the guy who called leaving a bunch of empty space on his pages "a design choice."

It's not a contest: Wart the Wizard, Dynamite Thor, & this all suck equally, & for the same reason: because they're cash grabs.

you are missing the point. He is claiming that all art after the 80’s sucks and that is simply not the point. And that page from 2020 is how they drew in the 90’s hence why comics got super popular during that era. John is claiming that the art in his books is better than anything out there today and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The art is a big reason why Ethan and Malin‘s books sell the way they do and books like Dynamite Thor and Wart the Wizard are seen as garbage.

if that were true, you wouldn’t have tried To capitalize off of Ethan’s success by stealing E.J. Morgues‘s character and creating a knock off comic in the form of Robotoad. And Preston is who you chose to make the hero in your book? That aged real well, didn’t it?

Someone challenged me to write a Robot Frog story that was better and I thought of a good story. It's not a big enough property to where a parody of it makes sense to get a ton of customers. I just wrote a story because I had a good and meaningful one.

I have no idea who E.J. Morgue is. Doubt the characters are similar.

SGM is starting to really feel the heat from all the cancel culture coming his way. This keeps up and he just might quit. Well if these morons want to crush the industry by scaring out the actual talent, by all means go for it

THE PLOT HOLES wraps up in 5 days, so put your orders in now! This book is so much fun to draw, and I'm having a blast.

On a side note--i really appreciate all the kind words of support I'm getting here on Insta. Lately, it's really been the thing that keeps me going.

It's been a rough few months for me on Twitter (for reasons I won't get into), and while I try to keep in mind 99% of my readers are fantastic, the trolls really got me down. Hence why I've stepped back from Twitter and YouTube.

No lie--I've actually considered leaving comics a few times over the past couple of months. Maybe retire and get into something like real estate investment (while taking private commissions as a side gig). Who knows.

From the outside, most folks look at my career and think "this guy has it all, and he must know that his work really means a lot to people", but it's hard to feel that way when people keep *trying* to drag me. By purposefully misconstruing something i said, by putting words in my mouth, by villainizing my attempt at friendship, or by attacking me for not aligning 100% with any given philosophy. I'm not even allowed to defend myself, because that would just pour more gasoline on the fire.

Anywho, thanks again for the positivity. I hope you check out Plot Holes. It's a passion project I'm crazy about, regardless how much money it makes. But I will say tis: when I crowdfund volume 2, believe me you'll wish you bought volume 1.

Time for a Comicsgate News Update, with a breaking news-story.

FROM INDIEGOGO

Degenerate drunk, possible sex offender and personal jester of Ethan VanSciver, Cecil recently announced "his next big thing". An upcoming untitled, unspecified Indiegogo project called "Cecil's Next Big Thing!" Cecil appears to be continuing the time honored tradition of Comicsgate by launching multiple projects while leaving open campaigns unfulfilled.

Gigantic lardass, thief of Brutus funds and former lover of his wife's boyfriend's pizza, Donal Delay also recently updated his long overdue campaign Brutus the Badass. Delay assured backers of his late book that Print Ninja had contacted him and the books were on there way, with an estimated delivery time of 3-6 weeks. Lets hope that this pallet load isn't left out in the rain to be destroyed like the last shipment, since Donal is too lazy to walk down a flight of stairs.

Continuing with our update on Liam Gray it would appear that he and @FROG had a back and forth over twitter several days ago. It all began when Ethan tweeted that anti-Comicsgaters lead creators to failure while Ethan would be happy to promote you to success. Liam wisely pointed out that by constantly claiming he'd promote others, Ethan was largely responsible for the expectations others had of him and his platform.

Continuing with the Batwoman theme, your old buddy Rorshach also offers up his own opinions on the current decision by the CW network.

Everybodies favorite best boi Zack covers the latest drama surrounding JK Rowling and how cancel culture is affecting Liberals.

And lastly we'll cover our top and breaking news story.

BREAKING NEWS STORY
Recently Mecha McCheese hosted a member of Warcampaign called Stupendous and covered several topics including Warcampaign's current situation, the whisper network of mean girls targeting creators in comics and a developing story involving Dynamite Entertainment.

I would encourage all Kiwi's to check out the livestream and hear out Stupendous and Warcampaign's information. It would appear that Dynamite Entertainment has been funding a charity known as "The Bail Project" which helps bail out violent criminals and protesters including Black Lives Matter and Antifa.
DynamiteBundle.PNG

An article from the Chicago Tribune details the type of violent criminals that the bail fund has been used to defend in the past.
Stewart.PNG

Prosecutors charged 34-year-old Christopher Stewart with being an armed habitual criminal last year after the four-time felon was allegedly caught illegally carrying a handgun.

At the time, Stewart’s ex-girlfriend had obtained an order of protection, saying that just days earlier he had shot a pistol into the ground at her 6-year-old son’s birthday party and threatened to kill her. “I should pop you right now bitch,” he shouted, according to her filing.

A charity called The Bail Project posted $5,000 in cash to release Stewart from Cook County Jail. A month later, Stewart was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly set fire to the ex-girlfriend’s apartment while she was inside. Police rescued her as she hung out of a kitchen window.
Lugo.PNG

West suburban Lyons police Chief Thomas Herion said he was “sickened” to learn from a reporter recently that serial home burglar Thomas Lugo last year was released with $5,000 from The Bail Project. Lugo is listed on the state’s sex offender registry as a “sexual predator,” and police and court records describe him as an admitted drug addict who repeatedly broke into people’s homes, even when they were present.

“He’s a sex offender who will break into individuals’ homes,” Herion said. “All the hard work you do in trying to keep the public safe …”

The Bail Project paid for Lugo’s release after he was accused of breaking into the Lyons home of Daniel Gutierrez, a Midway Airport grounds operation worker. Gutierrez had installed a home security camera so he could check on his wife as she underwent chemotherapy treatments for cancer.

A month after her December 2018 death, Lugo allegedly broke into the home and was caught on camera rifling through the home to steal her jewelry, according to police reports.

“The camera caught him perfectly,” said Gutierrez, who added that he was devastated because his wife’s necklaces and other jewelry had sentimental value to him.

While out on the charity-sponsored bail bond, Lugo was charged with breaking into a woman’s car in Berwyn.

Lugo is now in prison while he awaits trial on two burglary cases and a parole violation. He did not respond to a letter sent to the prison seeking comment.

Told by a reporter that a charity had bailed out Lugo, Gutierrez said: “He keeps doing the same crimes over and over again. It just doesn’t make any sense.”
Buchman.PNG

For example, the Chicago Community Bond Fund put up $10,000 in bond money in October to release Kavell Buchanan while he was awaiting trial on charges of driving a stolen car. Then 18, Buchanan had served time in juvenile detention for three separate aggravated batteries and a robbery.

Two months after the charity bailed him out, Buchanan was arrested after he allegedly indicated he had a gun while trying to steal a man’s PlayStation 4 Console.

The victim, Enkhbat Batgerel, said he was stunned that the Chicago Community Bond Fund had bailed out Buchanan on the previous stolen vehicle charge. “By a charity? That’s mind-blowing,” Batgerel said. “Do they know his rap sheet, his history, before giving him that type of help?”
The entire article can be found below.

For further developments I recommend all Kiwi's follow Stupendous for breaking updates.

Well that's all our news updates for now. Clearly the whisper network within the comics industry and the Dynamite revelations are the big stories right now. I can't help but wonder how Comicsgaters would feel knowing that their money is being used to finance bail for violent criminals, Black Lives Matter activists and Antifa agitators? :story:

Edit: Spelling mistakes, forgot the T in Antifa because I'm retarded.

Lol-what? Comicbooks hit the mainstream in the 80s. It's traditionally associated with Jim Shooter establishing (and advertising) tight interconnectedness and crossover events. The CG sheep understanding of history is imberesimg.
The reason why Ehehee is selling to the sheep like you is because you let them shit into your own heads with whith some of the braindead ideas out there. Ideas like "perfect 90s" and "stiff pinup schlock = good art"

@Smug Freiza it's a sad day if only brain dead Hut is covering something even remotely cb related. What's next vids about popmusic? What a pile of hypedriven garbage

Because the dirty unwashed CG masses will buy anything Frog shits out? Oh, and the reasons the 90s comics sold was a thing called the Speculator bubble. Not because EXTREME artwork was better than Steve Ditko or John Romita.

And to take the examples further to the point, and out of my work to why I'm fighting against this absurd comic industry:

This:

Jon that's why you can't fund anything. From a purely mechanical level the lower page is intricate and a level of craftsmanship that would take an expert days to craft, weeks for @FROG.

It's like comparing the Last Supper to 32 Campbel's Soup Cans as equal works of artistic technique.

What Dynamite/Blake are doing here has been covered. Its pay to play. You throw some laurel leaves at the weirdos and they leave you be. That's enabling these people. Which to my mind makes them enablers of SJW comics culture. Like SGM, they deserve the culture they've enabled.

Does anybody else find YBZ less entertaining since he almost exclusively reviews digital comics now? (Not this video, obviously.) I get it's what he needed to do during the lockdown, but I think his simple, aw shucks persona works better when he's filming an actual comic in his car in his lap, & ripping it up after. Just not a fan of digital comics.

The Marvel age of comics started the decline of the industry? How so? To much cape shit? I know superheroes being ridiculously popular lead to the companies of the time reducing the output on any books that didn't have bodybuilders in colorful tights.

If we're going that far back we might as well go back to the Comics Code Authority which was an attempt by lagging competitors to shut down EC who was kicking everyone's ass with high quality but salacious comics. Rather than trying to compete with EC they decided to regulate them out of the industry. They effectively hamstrung the whole industry with self imposed censorship for several decades in order to shut down a competitor.

This is quintessential 80's art.

Tuns of movement dynamic posing...

Much like Batman, Spider-man is a charachter whose movement should be candy for any artist lucky enough to draw him and if they're smart they'll put that movement in pages full of exposition ass well as fight scenes like 80's era JR JR does here.
1594405043965.png

This is how a great sequential artist lays out a page with boring dialogue. Compare this to the boring dialogue page from your modern example. One is nicely drafted and gets the point across in boring fashion. The other is nicely drafted too but gets the point across in a way that has the reader excited to turn the page and see what happens next.

This Wart art is objectively shit.

It's not a contest: Wart the Wizard, Dynamite Thor, & this all suck equally, & for the same reason: because they're cash grabs.
The art in JDA's book isn't spectacular but it's several orders of magnitude better than Wart the Wizard. Anyone incapable of seeing the difference has no place talking about art.

Much like Batman, Spider-man is a charachter whose movement should be candy for any artist lucky enough to draw him and if they're smart they'll put that movement in pages full of exposition ass well as fight scenes like 80's era JR JR does here.

How to layout a page where nothing physical happens.

That hand is mediocre. I've seen A-list pros do worse. It's not terrible but it's not Ditko good.

I dare you to contort your own hand into this EVS cover pose. And is he holding onto his left thumb with his right hand here?

Wart's interior art on the other hand...

This isn't "cartoony". Calvin and Hobbes is cartoony. Carl Barks' Scrooge stuff is cartoony. Hell, Wizard of Id is cartoony.

This Wart art is objectively shit.

The art in JDA's book isn't spectacular but it's several orders of magnitude better than Wart the Wizard. Anyone incapable of seeing the difference has no place talking about art.

i’m not going to give them too much flack for the hands. Hand positions are a bitch to draw. Except for Wart, that’s just plain embarrassing.

Wenger and the weirdos and stick with professionals and shop owner

He is the cg's equivalent to randbot.

Cyberfrog is transphobic.

The weeb wars nigger simp caring about the comics industry?

he’d probably get Metoo‘ed anyway,

I'm surprised he wasn't metooed awhile ago, a man in a wig are usually the biggest creeps.

Who needs comic shops when there's a Scholastic book fair?

We need to bring the book fair back😭

We are truly a hug box CG shill. Surely you have realized this.

That's the charm of trunksfromgt.

Does anybody else find YBZ less entertaining since he almost exclusively reviews digital comics now? (Not this video, obviously.)

His momentum died after the whole debacle of his Facebook fanclub and leaving twitter.

The Hut recently released a video covering the recent drama surrounding Blake Northcott and her virtue signalling release of a CGesque DM she received.
I'm inclined to give Blake the benefit of the doubt here. She's Canadian, lives in leftist Toronto (I think) and likely gets her info about BLM from the Canadian news channels. She's just another normie thinking she's expressing support for black people being killed in the streets by racist cops. She's not an SJW; she's just ignorant.

Like just about everyone she has know idea that BLM is a Marxist organization intent on destabilizing the US by fomenting race hatred and anti-law enforcement sentiment. She's just watching the news and believing the bullshit she's being fed. Dwayne Johnson is a disappointment. I was under the impression he was a libertarian/conservative and a little smarter than this. Schwarzenegger was a disappointment as well.

What do you guys think about Smiller’s claims of Maga 7 being shadowbanned on Indiegogo? His book comes up when I search for it, when I use the explore option, Maga 7 is nowhere to be found. The same thing with Kevin Sharpe’s Dragon Guard. It can’t be because they aren’t pulling enough money because I saw a campaign that was at $430, while Mike and Kevin’s campaign are doing pretty decent.
