I'm going on a rolling yearly average. Superman up in the Sky, Strange Adventures, he's going to be doing Rosarch, and he routinely gets one shots and mini stories (Swamp Thing special, holiday special, 100 page anniversary book). Before that, Batman, Heroes in Crisis, Mr. Miracle. King does allot of his work in limited series and one shots. Easier to hide sales there.

Swamp Thing was two years ago, I think same for Superman up in the Sky and I'm not sure how you are counting 6-10 page stories from those anniversary issues as "books". Sounds to me like you are making shit up.

1. Superman in the sky is being published on a monthly schedule currently, even if it was originally Wal-mart. If your going to be bitchy and insist on the Wal-mart title, that ended in 2019.

2. I was giving examples. Tom writes allot of stories for allot of one offs, usually between two to four a year of varying sizes

3. Heroes in Crisis ended in 2019.

4. Strange Adventures in 2020

5. His Batman run ended with issue #85, December 2019.

6. Now Rosarch and the Batman Catwoman series in 2020.

But by all means, be a hyper literal shit and debate with me the insane volume of work Tom King gets. In 2019 he wrote Superman in the sky, Heroes in Crisis, and Batman along with stories in two stand alone. he's set in 2020 to write Strange adventures, Rosarch, and more Batman. So three if you don't count the stand alone.

So lets sum what King has done so far in 2020: 3 issues of Strange Adventures and 8 pages story in Robin anniversary issue together with Seeley.

He might get out another 6 issues of Strange Adventures this year and 3 Rosarch issues. If I'm not mistaken latest rumours are that Batman/Catwoman will start in December, so one issue of that. So in total 13 issues in 2020 unless something else gets announced and assuming that Batman/Catwoman actually happens and nothing gets delayed. Oh and 8 pages short story that wasn't written entirely by him. And he might get another 8 pages short story in some big one-shot.

This "insane volume of work" he gets boils down to one ongoing. Was he writing more in 2019? Absolutely, but it didn't work out and now his output has shrunk considerably. If everything works out he might get 24 issues in 2021.

On the other hand we could look look at a man who actually writes 4 books for DC every month, Bendis: Superman, Action Comics, Legion, Young Justice.

Oh, and by the way, this:

King does allot of his work in limited series and one shots. Easier to hide sales there.

is false. Ongoings sell better than limited series unless it is an event. Thats one of the reasons why Marvel would often release new ongoing and after 2 issues announce that it is in fact only a 6 issues limited series.

So three series in a COVID shortened year where months went by with no comics being published?

So your literally taking Covid 2020 and only six months of publishing when I said I was going off of a year. Over the last year, Batman, Heroes in Crisis, Strange Adventure, and yes, short stories. Three instead of four.

You just listed three different series.

And?

That's... just....

Number ones sell better. Which is why Marvel announces they are limited series. They can reboot without cancelling. King getting a miniseries means he doesn't get cancelled.

I just got caught up on what happened to Jae Lee after his IG post, and all I gotta say is Tom King is such a cowardly little fuck.

Mr. Lee had some words to say about Tom King and his "friends" trying to drag him into unimportant internet drama because he drew a picture for the "wrong" people

Jae Lee said:

Two weeks ago, June and I took Loki to San Diego to see a specialist. He did not survive due to complications from the surgery. This past Friday was supposed to be a day of mourning. We were back in San Diego to pick up his ashes. We were going to take him to the beach and comfort each other by sharing our favorite stories about our little boy.

Instead, a part of the internet I avoid like the plague came barging in. I had companies I'm working for calling me, friends reaching out to me. I'm seeing hate pouring out of strangers' mouths, accusing me of things I have no knowledge of.

I'm seeing first hand how fast lies are spreading. Let me be clear, I'm not part of ANY group.

We never made it to the beach. We spent the entire six hour drive back home on an emotional roller coaster.

I'm writing this because I'm angry. These irresponsible tweets are not harmless. They do not just go away. They have real world consequences. They can take away your job. Your life. Your memories. June and I were robbed of a special day. So, no, we're not "all good."

This isn't the start of a conversation. This is the end. So please, don't drag me into a world I never wanted to be a part of, nor will I ever want to be a part of.

I want to honor Loki by going back to producing art made with love. For people who enjoy it for what it is. Something that hopefully brings joy into their lives.

Mommy and Daddy miss you so very much, Loki, our love.

So, a former employee of an organization that set up multiple far right dictatorships around the world, organized the violent persecution and murder of leftists, supplied drugs to the residents of poorer areas of the Us (mostly PoC) and thay may have been complicit to illegal arrests, detention, torture and other acts disavowed by the civilized nations harassed a co-worker the day his dog passed away.
Tom King is a cartoon villain at this point

damn beaten to the punch.
I was just thinking "I hope Jae Lee never makes an account just to defend himself" but it's good it was instagram and not twatter. I'm glad he did say something because this make Tom King go from petty bitch to unbelievable asshole. You robbed your so-called "friends" a day of mourning just to get eyes and ears off the skeletons rattling in your closet, and it only amplified it! Fuck Tom King, Rich Johnson and everyone else who badgered Jae Lee for N O T H I N G.

I'm sorry for his loss. Both his pet and peace of mind.

In ideal world this situation would force few of those idiots to pause and think about what the fuck they are doing here and maybe next time, before going on another crusade, they'd pause to think if this is really right thing to do.

But nah, I'd guess that many of them will focus on "I'm not part of any group" bit and how his non-choice is a choice and he is de facto Nazi.

I’m rarely of the mind that I want to see money taken out of someone’s pocket for short-sighted dickish behavior, but in this one instance I truly hope King’s treatment of Jae Lee is a career killer.

And obviously we get such comments:

*accepts money from a hate group and when called on it, tries to deflect by talking about dead dog while not addressing the work he did for a hate group, or even lamely pretending that he didn't know he was doing work for comicsgaters*

This has a real Kevin Spacey "accused of assault, comes out as gay" BS.

You should be ashamed of yourself for using your dead dog as a way to avoid scrutiny

Fuck this gay Earth.

Yes, it's seemingly precision-crafted to reach that goal, what with the cute doggo factor, but giving Lee the benefit of the doubt that it's wholly legitimate… Now MSC (mainstream comics; I'm coining it) has cancelled him whereas many CG creators will be eager to welcome him for future projects, both for his skill as well as the virtue points of welcoming a cancelled PoC creator. So who is Lee more likely to be offered commissions from in the future if he decides to try to continue his career? King has quite likely driven an experienced creator right into the alternative side-industry that CG and CG-adjacent creators are currently dominating.

Does anyone know what CG book Lee worked on that got him on King's shitlist? I think I've missed that bit.

CyberFrog 2, cover right above

In that case, care to weigh in, @FROG? When you commissioned Lee, was he aware that you were on a mainstream industry blacklist and that he was likely to be cancelled too due to guilt by association? Did you try to warn him of what had been happening, or did he have any idea of it already?

EDIT: I'm not being 🎩. These are honest, calm questions.

They can still make a living doing something else. I want them out of entertainment. Hell, to be fair, if they weren't influencers I'd be on board with Tom King writing creator owned material. But come one. Would anyone give a shit if he wasn't writing Batman or Rosarch?

Edit

I went to King's twitter, because maybe he apologized or something...

Holy shit, this asshole. In 24 hours he posted pics of his dog and walking it. Is this? No, I've been watching CG shit for too long.

Frankly he shouldn't have to. It's a cover, he shouldn't have to warn people about shit. No one should. This internet beef of who is allowed to draw what for who is retarded. Draw pictures, get paid. I saw that cover on the campaign ages ago and none of them said shit.

Yeah, he's just doing retweet. My guess would be he's trying to lay low until this blows over like the coward he is..

I agree. But people in the mainstream industry like King do not. It's just not how the world works anymore.
