Patriotism is a no no right now. At least for the next four years.

Why?

Biden's in office. Wouldn't it be back in?

Coates is a hate filled man.

But here's an idea, a bold one...

So the guy has gotta be over 100 years old now and he had his heyday in the 1930’s and 40’s. To have him try and understand the politics of today would just require a little too much suspension of belief. If anything, he would be probably be agreeing with Red Skull now.

I don't think he'd agree with the Red Skull.

The truth is, isn't this an extremely interesting story to tell? A man fast forwarded from a socially conservative era without cell phones or radios to today. How would that look? The culture shock between going from 1944 to 1963 was nothing. It was twenty years. We're now talking about something like 80!

The movies completely whiffed and they've never been clear on when Cap emerged in 616. The story of a time leap, where no one you know is alive. Where you are wholly out of touch with the world around you.

I would much rather have that story told than what we have been getting since 2012.

Man.. you'd be surprised with how attitudes will change with the current admin, there's nothing stopping these npc's from thinking they're *patriots with a little news media magic. It's quite literally the same Obama administration from before.

* obviously not real patriots, but npc's thinking that serving and following the media and government narrative makes them one.

Comic books are gonna continue to suffer and expect them to creep more and more into political territory, it's only going to get worse.

CYBERFROG 2: REKT PLANET closed down this week, about $50K shy of beating that Stickman book, but still a tremendous success. I realized, after having committed to a print run and having made all of the PVCs, that I didn’t have the fuel to get another $50,000, and was soon going to sell out of product.

But things have changed, especially with Keanu Reeves blasting past us all with BRZRKR, so it no longer felt important to beat what is now a second place comic.

I’ll try again with CYBERFROG 3. View attachment 2054823View attachment 2054825
We had a little shipping problem with the YouTube channel member trading cards. Instead of shipping them one at a time, we decided to ship each member 10 trading cards at once, wrapped in a regular envelope, with two postage stamps. The post office kicked them back to us, telling us that the envelopes were thicker than a quarter of an inch, and therefore, we must repackage them all and weigh them for proper shipment.

Disaster. Cost us about $400. But we're repacking them now in manilla bubble mailers, and I guess it's just an expensive lesson learned.
Congrats, Ethan. I can't wait for my copy of Rekt Planet.
by the way, does anyone know if the gay Captain America is supposed to be a replacement on some female thor/gogurt hulk shit or is it just a one shot?
If I recall correctly, it's a mini series with a bunch of random people taking up the mantle of "Captain America," I think maybe it's a series of one shots or something? Either way it's lame.

Its going to be part of the new relaunch of Captain America where they jettison whatever Coates was fucking around with for the past 3 years as Steve Rogers, Winter Soldier and USAgent go on a road tour across America and meet the gayass, multiracial, transgender people of the heartland that Cap has inspired to take up the symbol. Which is a "homage" to Mark Gruenwald's 'Nomad' Cap run, which in turn was a homage to Easy Rider.

I read through Coates' run and it doesn't actually have the issues commonly complained about with "SJW Marvel" - rather than ignoring continuity and tossing previous characterization in the trash, Coates' Captain America by contrast directly derives from the world builf by previous writers like Steve Englehardt, Mark Gruenwald, Frank Miller and Ed Brubaker. Coates' problems as a writer are instead a general lack of craft, the stories themelves consisting of a bland, detached captioned monologue during action scenes, paused for dialog and repeat, but worse he fundamentally does not grasp the concept of heroism. Black Panther and Steve Rogers, the protagonists of the title, become completely passive and take a backseat in their own stories.

How did you lose half your backers? Even assuming you got new people on those gimmick covers, you can't have done more that ten to twelve thousand on Bloodhoney. This is stagnation at most.50
50% drop off from issue 1 to issue 2 (especially for overpriced books) is normal. Not ideal, but nothing to worry about. If EVS offers books 2 &3 in a bundle (as well as 1,2 and 3), he is bound to get more sales with CF3, but the momentum is kinda lost because of his late deliveries.

Cap is a great example of working class/flyover states values (and Iron Man is upper class/coastal states values) and this dynamic makes them interesting characters in the MCU.
Or common soldier heroism versus officer discipline (Carol Danvers's Captain Marvel) or spymaster politics (Nick Fury).
Hell, even old man Cap training Young Avengers could work.
A competent writer and a decent editor can do great stories by simply putting "man out of time" cap with characters that are products of our time (sort of like Green Lantern/Green Arrow of our days).
Or, as YBZ often says, just have him as generic adventure man. Hell, have a run where he is so lost in the 21st century he goes away and has exotic locale adventures or go full MI Cap.
But comc books have been so obsessed over politics they eat themselves, as proven here.

That's the case at comic shops but the direct market is a completely different model. Kamen America and Lim's other books along with a few other examples would seem to indicate that growth of backer numbers from the first release forward is very achievable.

All one needs do is put out a product good enough that more people want to read it.

"Backers" does not equal individual customers since every item must be purchased separately and each purchase is counted as a backer. If you purchase the book, a variant cover and the plastic dolls you count as 3 or 4 "backers".
And also there is this. If Ethan has bothered to create a database of customers for mailing lists and metrics then he's the only one who actually knows if his real backer numbers are going up, down or maintaining.

I have my suspicions based on changes in the way he talks about his numbers over time but they are only suspicions.

We used the Add On feature this time around to make purchasing all of those items possible as ONE backer.

So? He's producing multiple products that multiple people want. Doesn't matter if the 12,000 backers are 12,000 people or 10,000 people, it's still 12,000 sales.

I'm not criticizing him, just pointing out that using the backer number as any kind of metric is meaningless. The dollar total speaks for itself.

And that's not taking into account of the variant cover reprints, either.

The variant's are the problem. If even just one thousand of those were new backers. Oh, well. That's still not half. Shock of shocks, Preston can't do math.

Frog, will you be offering bundles ala Jon Malin?

Nasser. It's a drop off. Good business men always assesses drop off.

To put it in fandom menace terms, its like Disney saying it makes money off of Star Wars despite losing twenty percent of the profit it had pre Last Jedi. (These are hypo numbers). A good business asks why you suddenly saw a drop in revenue, regardless of whether you made money.

You don't get it; doing several of the same things that killed its mainstream accessibility and mainly appealing to the same small audience of whales with variants will save comics forever. Oh wait, I mean make fat stacks off of mongos.

Only if you get separate perks for each one. If multiple items are rolled into one perk then it's just one "backer"
