In the late 90s and early 00's I was addicted to the Red Alert series. I didn't play the OG C&C series until years later but I liked it as well. Generals of course, ended up being my favorite C&C game and I still occasionally play it today.

Which games did you most enjoy and why? What parts of lore did you like and what did you hate?

Kane is my favorite character/story element in all of the games. If you were to make C&C 5 how would you bring him back or advance the story without him?

The original Red Alert was the first computer game I ever played that wasn't solitaire or something from the computer lab at school. I was absolutely obsessed with it as a wee lad.

I hated Yuri, Yuri's Revenge was a ton of fun, but I still hated him. It was the way he spoke that grated me, how he almost hisses.

Red Alert 2 will always be my favorite, generals was pretty good as well, I hope the open source effort to recreate it's game engine is finished eventually (Link). There is also a open source version of Red Alert 1
called OpenRA for anyone interested.

But honestly nothing beats the Red Alert 3 cutscenes:

If you want to go back playing Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, I highly recommend the mod Mental Omega.

I owned and played through Tiberium Wars on the 360 (pls no bully, I was a console peasant in the mid 2000s).

Honestly it worked surprisingly well with a console controller. Nowhere near as good or intuitive as a mouse and keyboard but I had fun with the game and never felt the controls were so gimped that it was making the game not enjoyable.

Tried generals a few times but could never get into it for some reason.

I'll throw in a lonely Like for C&C3. Sure, it was a bit of a mess, and the 3rd faction was an awkward addition, and the sub-factions introduced in the expansion were never anywhere close to being properly balanced. But it was a fun mess.

Got into the series with RA2 and Yuri's Revenge thanks to a friend in high school. There's something great about solid RTS gameplay and the campy cinematics.

I'd wish for remakes, but they'd just be a soul-less zombies with none of the charm of the originals. Getting them to work on modern hardware's well worth the effort.

Red Alert 2 is fucking amazing, I've played both campaigns to completion in the main game and one of the campaigns to completion in Yuri's Revenge, so RA2 is the one I've played the most.

I've played one of the campaigns to completion in Generals but not the others (and I've yet to touch it's expansion pack) and I tried to play a campaign in RA3 but sadly never finished it, as for the others I've briefly played the original, the first Red Alert and Tiberian Sun, I've not touched 3 or 4 yet.

I've liked what I've played though and have been meaning to play more.

3 is... interesting. Its the first main-series version done under EA's control and its certainly a much different game from the others. To be somewhat fair to them, alien shit was around prior in the Firestorm days, even if not directly the Scrin themselves, so it isn't like aliens are a new thing. Yes, the Scrin themselves shouldn't be there but... eh, a lot of the hate about aliens period being around is misplaced, especially since Tiberium was already radically terraforming Earth back in the TibSun days. I can recommend the Tiberium Essence mod if you want something a lot closer to TibSun in terms of technology and faction feel. Brings back walkers and hovers for GDI and cyborgs for Nod, and the Kodiak, Montauk, and everyone's favorite Mammoth Mark II walker.

As to Generals... it was my first proper entry into the franchise since I was a Total Annihilation kid instead of a C&C one, and it had some interesting gameplay mechanics that I'm sad haven't seen much duplication since. Radiation and toxin fields, weapon hits combining to make giant raging infernos, anti-missile defense systems raging from laser hard kills to decoys and ECM... it was a strangely accurate depiction of modern war and the devastation it leaves behind in that regard, despite the actual faction designs. Am disappointed though that I haven't yet seen a mod that accurately duplicates what the USA would be doing under an actual full-blown WMD-scale land war in Asia like in the game, namely dropping W80 warheads everywhere in sight once things hit critical mass.

Never played much C&C until Generals came out. Me and my brothers played a shit ton of that along with BF:V on LAN. Really enjoyed 3, though didn't play much RA3.

Picked up the C&C Remastered set and it's been pretty fun rolling through NOD with a ball of Mammoths. Hoping they continue to remaster these games.
