I remember this was a hit in 2011 that not many people saw. Very relevant. Virus starts in Hong Kong and spreads quickly (through a cheating whore) back to the states.
I'm watching it now. The World Health Organization (WHO) is featured. These people get flu-like symptoms then die.

The movie theater I saw this in with my wife reeked of piss, and there was some annoying teen couple who were somehow about to obnoxiously and noisily make out for most of the movie over the stench until I threw my cup of ice at them.

We complain about the smell and got refunds on our tickets. It was OK I guess.

I fucking loved that Gwyneth Paltrow died in the first 5 minutes. Its something that you can watch on repeat.
I love how it was a serious plot point that her brain turned to goop

Talk about five dimensional meta-foreshadowing...

this movie very much unsettled me
so did world war Z
and everything else ever with viruses

but then again, the dog coughing on me also unsettled me. so maybe i'm just a massive pussy.

I saw it when it came out. It felt like a Discovery Channel docudrama on the big screen, more educational than entertaining without much in the way of significant character arcs.

Well hopefully you've now matured and can watch something a little slower paced than Disney movies

Steven Soderbergh is VERY much an acquired taste. Either you hate him or you love him. He does some big budget shit, but for the most part he creates movies in indie style or avant-garde style which are slower paced than most. When he dives into a subject, he REALLY dives deep.

By the way, Gweneth Paltrow dying early was a tribute to Hitchock in that during Psycho, Jane Mansfield was considered what we would now call an A-Lister and a Blockbuster star. She was, also similarly, killed in the beginning of the movie.

The movie tries to be a realistic, down to Earth discussion of what would happen against a modern plague.

Every once in a while Hollyweird gets it right. I watched the movie and thought to myself that it something like this could totally happen and then I remembered reading that it has already happened in the 1300's (Black Death/bubonic plague) killed upwards to 20 million people.

Another great movie about an epidemic that I remember watching was Outbreak back in the mid 90's.
