Gush about the Thin White Duke. Pictures, music and movie roles, doesn't matter.

I wish I was in the timeline where he played Wallace in Blade Runner.

One of my faves:

First Bowie song I heard when I was 15. When he died, hearing this made me all emotional:

90s Bowie is underrated:

There are two types of bands: album bands and best of bands. An album band is a band with all (or almost all) songs on an album being bangers, like the Beatles, Zep, Cream, Deep Purple. Then you've got best of bands, who will usually have one or two good songs on an album, with the rest of the album being filler garbage. With the exception of Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, and Aladdin Sane, Bowie is a Best of band.

Anyways, a fairly decent underrated song of Bowies...

^ Weird take. Hunky Dory and Ziggy are some of his most fillerific albums to my ears (Kooks? It Ain't Easy? Eight Line Poem? Does anybody not skip these tracks?)

Meanwhile I'd be hard pressed to point out a weak spot in Station to Station or Low. Ok, maybe "Art Decade," but it's like 2 minutes long or something.

I would tentatively agree that most people would know Bowie from his hits, but unlike most Best Of bands, his career lasted multiple decades and multiple genre shifts. You couldn't accuse Bowie of being complacent.

I'm a big proponent of his late life records, or his last two specifically. The Next Day has some utterly profound musings on it, unfortunately interspersed with some butt-rock throwbacks. Still a good record. Here's one I've been thinking on lately.

There's a graveyard by the station
Where the girls wear nylon skirts and
Sandals from Hungary
The boys ride their Riga 1's
Upon the little hill
Such sadness and grief
The trees die standing
That's where we made our trysts
And struggled with our guns
Would you still love me
If the clocks could go backwards
The girls would fill with blood and
The grass would be green again
Remember the dead
They were so great
Some of them
Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Ya ya ya ya ya ya
How does the grass grow
Blood blood blood
Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Ya ya ya ya ya ya
Where do the boys lie
Mud mud mud
How does the grass grow
Blood blood blood
But I lived a blind life
A white face in prison
But you made a life out of nothing
Now I ride my black horse
I miss you more
Than you'll ever ever know
Waiting with my red eyes
And my stone heart
Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Ya ya ya ya ya ya
How does the grass grow
Blood blood blood
Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Ya ya ya ya ya ya
Where do the boys lie
Mud mud mud
How does the grass grow
Blood blood blood
I gaze in defeat
At the stars in the n ight
The light in my life burnt away
There will be no tomorrow
Then you sigh in your sleep
And meaning returns with the day
Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Ya ya ya ya ya ya
Where do the boys lie
Mud mud mud
How does the grass grow
Blood blood blood

I would argue that his best work was his final album, Blackstar. I can't think of any other rocker of his generation putting out something so personal, meaningful and musically interesting. It's a far cry from Ziggy Stardust and doesn't have pop sensibilities in the slightest. I'd also argue it has the best musicianship of any of his records. If you've got the time, give it a listen. It's a remarkable record.

My favorite album is Hunky Dory, and my favorite song is Life on Mars?. I love his music pre-90s era. It's not that those albums are bad, I just don't like them. Yeah I'm not an expert on Bowie so I don't know all about him.
I want to watch more of his movies, though.

Kills me he was too sick to star in Blade Runner 2049 as Wallace.

Recommend Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence for a good Bowie drama (also starring Beat Takashi).

Nearly all of Bowie's albums are awesome, tf are you on about. His first couple are a bit rough but everything from The Man Who Sold the World to Scary Monsters is absolutely awesome and I include both Pin Ups and Lodger. After that he was a lot more inconsistent but still had some bangers.

Let's Dance is good, Tonight is awful and everything from Never Let Me Down to Buddha of Suburbia is mediocre. Outside is an interesting concept but not my cup of tea. Earthling is amazing, easily one of his best. Hours is a bit shit, but then Heathen was awesome and Reality is great too. I'm not huge on The Next Day but the singles off it are really good. Blackstar is one of the best albums ever recorded.

A best of artist my arse!

Everyone knows Heroes and his famous pose on the album cover, but I don’t see a lot of people talking about how good this song is:

Even his live performance from Tokyo back in the 70’s was cool:
