Dead Island 2 - Welcome to HELL-A - Haha so funny

I don't mind the subtitle i think its a pretty awful pun and therefore i find it funny, but the most interesting thing to me about this is that ken ashcorp worked on it, explains the pegging reference.

Cant imagine playing a zombie game that doesnt try to give you the experience that something like Project Zomboid delivers in 2022. THere are so many of these cookie cutter zombie games, they're all basically the same shit and mediocre at best, abominable cash grabs at worst.

i finished dying light 2 a couple weeks ago, what a fucking downgrade from the first game. story was so dumb, characters annoying and paper thin the "good guys" were radical anarcho commies who constantly insult and try to kill you while the "bad guys" are nice to you and keeps control in the zombie ridden world only to turn evil in the last 2% of the game, so fucking stupid.

Glad I didn't get it. While I was impressed with the early gameplay. Something about it didn't pull me in enough to drop $60 on it.

Way to steal Dead Rising 3's setting and premise in order to make a game with "island" in the name that doesn't take even place on an island. Retards!
Maybe the big one finally happened and California is out to sea.

Looks alright but I'm more interested in State of Decay 3 because I like the base management.

Its melee combat is good. Its not much of an improvement over the first game, but the first game was already pretty good in that front. Ranged on the other hand is basically gone - you can get a bow, and a sidegrade into a mediocre crossbow, or a disposable two shot shotgun. None of them are worth the hassle, really.

Atop of that, mobility felt worse than the original until you were heavily upgraded, and even then it relied on gimmicks like gliders to keep traversal fresh (by avoiding traversal) over designs that were approachable from multiple directions. A lot of map routing ended up feeling very unidirectional, unlike the first game, and you'll find yourself treading the same paths because there's not any better options, as opposed to natural flow.

And then yea, the story is just hot garbage. I didn't really dive in for it, but the stupid stick is in full effect among the cast.

Who the fuck cares about this game? It's been almost 10 years since it was announced, Dead Island 1 isn't even all that great to begin with.
I'm really surprised they didn't drop the dead island branding at all. Negative connotations in your marketing cannot be worth any 'brand recognition' the flop of the first game woulda gotten them. Between the time and the difference in feel and attitude from the first, there's not much connecting 'em aside from zombies n the name.

Looks like it could have potential, but I am getting really sick and tired of all the game advertising with "look how quirky and fun this is guiz!!!" approaches. All it does is kill any atmosphere your game could have had. If I wanted dumb quirky zombie violence, there's no shortage of actually good games out there, while yours is an unproven quantity.

The series (or at least its identity, keep whatever new game assets were developed for this sequel and call it something else) should have been permanently shelved after they made a fucking MOBA of all things, only for it to get canned during early access. Christ, weren't they going to make a Dead Island movie, too? It's like the whole series just fell off a cliff.

It really did - Its always funny when a company seems to think they can just FORCE a brand into existence. You see this a lot with esports, trying to force a competitive scene into place without any consideration of whether you have a competition worthy design. Movies, books and merch tend to be examples of this too, you'll have a crap game come out with three lore novels and a 35 minute long youtube miniseries of lookalike actors on a bad cgi sound stage, and then wonder why the game didn't break even after all the burn on the 'marketing' budget.

They'd make so much more by splitting out into 3-5 non-committal projects that are just make game, and then building out the ones that do actually succeed or develop those opportunities on their merits. They're letting "perfection" of having it all pre planned get in the way of "good enough" when your lore book is 6 months post release and the competitive scene only gets official support after a few successful community tournies.

My neck still hurts from the whiplash between the first game's reveal trailer and the actual gameplay, but I really enjoy the franchise. Escape Dead Island was a little hidden gem.

The tone of this doesn't bug me too much, even if I am wary of them trying too hard to be Whacky and Hip. Loot based games are pretty ridiculous when you get down to it, and there's dozens of miserable zombie games already. Sometimes you just want to be a lunatic with a chainsaw, man's inhumanity to man be damned.

Sounds likes the Saints Row Reboot.

Pass. I prefer the original E4 2014 trailer:

But apparently you can control it with Alexa so that's a thing I guess?
