I like Ninjago, but even I know they're overplaying Kai's feats and victories.

The Great Devourer? The ninja technically didn't defeat it. They just lured it into a position for Garmadon to strike it while using all four Golden Weapons. That's how he got the Megaweapon that Kai supposedly turned into a star.

Karlof? He basically lost that fight, but it wasn't a battle of pure strength. The Tournament of Elements was a game of wits, which the footage showed by playing a clip of Kai winning by stealing the Jade Blade needed to advance to the next round.

Nadakhan? They never fought 1-on-1, and Nadakhan only lifted mountains to create a new Djinjago to rule with his wife while she possessed Kai's sister Nya and gave him the ability to grant his own wishes before he was poisoned and forced to grant Jay's wish that would undo the events of the entire season.

(People joke about Bionicle lore, but Ninjago lore is pretty fucking confusing at times.)

The point I'm trying to make is that a good chunk of the villains in Ninjago are beat by the ninja outsmarting them, not with the power they claim characters like Kai have.
Even if you wanted to grant them giving Kai 2 dozen feats that he didn't even actually accomplish, as autistic as it is, Tahu still clears easily. The Vahi, as far as its connection to Tahu is concerned, is a one-off mask used mostly as a distraction by Tahu in the middle of a filler arc. However, db made it an absolute cornerstone of his kit basically as a shorthand of "This is his best thing, and it SUCKS! Now, we don't have to give any justification for Kai overcoming anything else in Tahu's arsenal, even though plenty of them are stronger and more applicable."

I guess the reason I'm so disappointed is that I don't really see much difference between a billion dollar corporation digging up the corpse of something I enjoyed deeply in the past for a cynical, disrespectful marketing stunt that they put no thought or effort into, and a million dollar independent internet company digging up the corpse of something I enjoyed deeply in the past for a cynical, disrespectful marketing stunt that they put no thought or effort into.

I didn't watch the episode, but I do hear people say that Tahu had a lot of statements, but since we never saw them, Death Battle didn't count them.

...The exact opposite of the Kratos and Asura fight where they quite literally go on and on and about "Well, just because we don't see Kratos do these things doesn't mean he can't!"

I just dunno whether to call it growth or hypocrisy.

That would be all well and good... if it weren't for the fact they then gave Kai feats other characters are only stated to be able to do while ignoring plenty of things Tahu is actually seen doing, let alone feats from characters who are canonically significantly weaker than Tahu (oh, but they made sure to scale Tahu down multiple times based on things weaker characters struggled with), while also just flat out ignoring or handwaving away a good half of the powers Tahu has access to.

To give you an idea how lazy this was, Tahu's sort of go-to/signature mask, the Kanohi Hau, or mask of shielding, has a pretty big weakness that would actually be pretty relevant to this matchup. If I were to try and steelman a case for Kai winning, 100%, that's the route I and literally anyone else would go with. This weakness is literally in the first paragraph that shows up when you google it, and even shows up in the google ai summary if it pops up. At no point in the entire video did death battle even bring it up (though the animation studio, which is not part of death battle, might have referenced it at one particular point). They couldn't even be bothered to do a single google search.

Alright, enough whining about Garmadon's Megaweapon becoming a star. When's the REAL Megaweapon going to be on Death Battle?

The next fight is really going to bring out the autism, isn’t it?
More like salt. And maybe some cope as well. It’s kind of funny how much stock people put into what matchups become episodes and which ones don’t.

Next fight is
Goku vs Saitama, wtf??? where's the Halloween episode?
Who said anything about a Halloween episode?

I’m seeing so much salt and cope right now in some Discord servers right now. It’s actually kind of funny.

So what are they most upset over specifically?

Spoilers:
Shadow won, which – personally, I call bullshit. even with the dubious scaling, Mewtwo just has more hax trickery up his sleeve

Even as a Shadow fanatic, Yeah, the fight was bullshit. Mewtwo was done dirty.

Goku will job like he always dose or it will end with Saitama letting Goku win.
