debate on the ethics of race swapping

since the 2010s, the media has been re-writing and re-doing different works in media such as art, books, shows and movies in a way to take something old that was once beloved, slap on some new paint and sell it back to the masses for minimum work and profit. however the concept of " race swapping" has not only become the norm in recent years, but has been encouraged by certain interest groups to subvert the audience.

in this thread, i want to debate if race swapping is a positive or a negative. if one should respect the roots a series came from or redo it to fit in more with modern times not just in the way society looks right now, but in the way it also thinks.

Personally I believe that if the characters rewritten well and still fits in with some of the OG material, then their race really doesn't matter much. I don't care if a favorite character suddenly becomes Asian or Black or whatever, as long as they still have a likeable personality and are written well than who cares. My problem with many race-swapped redos is that their charm and good writing suddenly disappears as soon as they're blackified, and then we're left with a slightly darker husk of what once was a decent character.

The problem has never been the concept. It's always been the intent, even if the rise of Culture War stuff has made arguing it was ALWAYS a problem a profitable course of action. That's how I feel, anyways.

Race swapping doesn't make something worse unless it is history inaccurate, e.g. making Anne Boleyn black. Or in cases where someone's race is key to their character.

Now I would rather if studios look for projects that don't need race swapping in first place, or in the case of something like comic books where they have 1000s of character just pick one that is already the race they want or created a new one. Not sure why Hollywood is so scared in creating new characters.

The is one way race swapping I have 0 issues with, is when you are transplanting the story to a different time or place. Such as all the western remakes of samurai movies, or Ran being based on King Lear, or hell even Romeo + Juliet which is not a movie I even like.

The problem with changing the race is that race in inherently tied to the characters themselves as well as the settings, this makes it harder to be immersed into the story like deadpool where the hot chick got replaced by a negress and only the luck that she did not have a prominent role in the movie made it bearable

I think investment in the character also matters. I am not familiar with Domino in the comics and therefore didn't know or really care that she was race swapped.

Frankly, I actually kind of liked her character because she just seemed happy to be there and had some decent bants with Deadpool. Rather than berate Deadpool one sidedly into the ground like every other race swapped black character would have if it was written by SJW hacks.

I have two main problems with it:

The intent behind it is overtly to essentially erase white people/rewrite history and secondly for some reason they always manage to find the least charismatic, least talented coal black Congo nigger to play the part and/or rewrite the story/script which makes it unwatchable even if the intent were different.

The idea per se is "harmless" as long race isn't important for the character, it's the obvious malice and sake of muh diversity and having less white people behind it that's annoying

So how is it harmless? It's very obvious that liberals and jews have been pushing this stuff everywhere. I mean literally everywhere, even in countries that are 95% White in half of the adverts you see the same kind of funky afro girl.
Or just by disabling adblock. Also, it's always blacks, you barely ever see any Asians, Arabs etc. I can only assume that it's because blacks are pretty much worshipped/pitied by liberals and jews as the most opressed and noble people, but also to normalize them.
Meanwhile Asians don't have to put up with this cancer, but if you dare notice this in the west you are a bigot opressing the "minorities", ignoring that Europeans are a small minority on the planet already.

Seems to me it's really only race swapping FROM one race (white) to others. The gender swap is pretty much teh same too.
I get it, i really do, you want to have little black/brown kids being able to identify as a character in a movie. But it seems to me like a lot of the creative types that do the race swaps don't put a ton of effort into a story or anything. They make the swap the core tenant of their silly movie and the effort (lol) ends there.

Acting is a job, I don't find fault in workers for accepting the role, nor do I dislike filmmakers for picking whoever they think fits best while working against a deadline. Only time it bothers me is when the people and media surrounding the process behave as if everyone disappointment by changes is a bigot. That sentiment is itself prejudiced and needlessly divisive.

Can be fine when it's done properly, like it's an alternative universe, reboot, that kind of shit. Don't forget that if you do race swap you shall consider a lot of factors which are touching a huge ic~
Oh wait, we live in clownworld, it's always shit. :story:

Pretty much always bad. They do it to dunk on white actors and demoralize the white audience. There's no need to go over it.

There is absolutely something wrong with the concept, and it never should be done

Race swapping simply says that original non white characters cannot be interesting, or compelling, or connect with the audience. A non white character needs to be a white character the audience already has a connection with, just change the color of their skin and add some 'ethnic' mannerisms or whatever

Race swapping is racist af towards niggers, beaners, chinks, what have you

You're being deceitful. It's being changed as an attempt to influence those things, not reflect them. Look at the spike in troons for example: they started being pushed hard in media since 2016 or so and only a few years  after that the rate of people trooning out began to really increase.

Hey, how about you come back to the site in a year, pal? Get some time on the site, and also learn how to spell "oppressed".
