I guess there's no requirements for Community Featured Submissions anymore? Okay, a game reached EOL why does the whole site need to know about it on the front page, it's not a shocking or major event, nothing relates to lolcow kinds of people...
So? Everytime some retarded fat bitch shits her pants or random E celeb gets drunk that shit gets featured despite being boring and irreverent.

Bungie is a lolcow company now.

The story always felt like it was determined to justify my completely-partisan contempt for the “drama” and “lore” in games like Halo and Gears. Just a lot of backstory (in place of dynamic characterization), overwrought anguish, generic willpower overcoming the odds, and every other feeling manchildren stories lean on to avoid ever looking “uncool.”

Was destiny ever even good? Every time I have ever heard about it people were always complaining how much bungie fumbled the new content and how it's such wasted potential.
Back in 2019 I was at a bar and some dude kept talking about Destiny 2 all the time. I joined his clan and it was entirely people who would play Destiny 2 every waking hour of the day while "working from home."

I felt like the bones of the game were good, but it was just way too grindy - I played for a month or two and fell off. But the playtimes I saw from the people who this game really clicked for would put even wow players to shame.

It is fairly shocking because Bungie is in pretty severe trouble, the "game we're moving on to" is supposed to be Marathon which is drastically underperforming (already under Destiny 2 levels at times).

On top of that - typically in a functioning company - Destiny 2's closure would be part of Destiny 3's announcement (or whatever the new title is) - for them to just close D2 so unceremoniously is a huge red flag for the entire company. Even Blizzard has a skeleton crew running WoW classic (a ~20 year old game) and FFXI is turning ~25 and going to 30 on much smaller numbers.

They can't say "were fucking closing Bungie" but this is an extremely bad look for the health of the company.

I'm not even mad. I'm more disappointed than anything. I remember playing the Destiny 1 beta when it first came out, back when I thought Bungie could do no wrong. I played the beta every day and ran around the Cosmodrone for hours every day after my college classes ended.

Unfortunately the cracks really started to show very early on after the game came out. The updates were slow, content was barely being added for an appropriate price. The Dark Below and Rise of Crota or whatever it was called barely had any content in it and you had to pay a premium for it. Not to mention the weekly rotation of events was completely fucked. At least Vault of Glass and Crota's End were fun. But I stopped playing after Taken King came out. I was fervently against MTX in games too, Eververse coming out soured me on the game greatly. Since I had already seen games that would lock higher quality cosmetics behind another paywall.

I did try to play Destiny 2 for a while. I played a bit of Beyond light, and had played the game a little before that, before they started sunsetting content. Which was a huge controversy in and of itself.

I'm a fucking old man now. I remember when Halo 2 and 3 were the shit. Halo 3's midnight release at the Gamestop near me had a fucking mob of people in the parking lot. Along with a police presence. I had never seen a game get that much attention before, nor after even. Shit was crazy. I played my Xbox damn near every day for 5 years because I loved Halo so much. Bungie made my childhood.

Marathon really did kill Destiny. Then killed itself. It's probably the first murder suicide story in gaming. A developer abandons what made them successful and tries to chase a trend, while ultimately killing both live service games they worked on for years. They both are now going to die slow and apathetic deaths. Hope Sony enjoyed burning over 3 billion dollars of this now shitshow of a company.

This poster must be fucking 14 or something. You know, the amount of years since Destiny was even revealed as a franchise?

Destiny had an amazing core gameplay loop. The problem was everything else.

Destiny 2 didn't even last more than 10 goddamn years. World of Tanks and War Thunder have outlasted your tranny Halo knockoff Bungie.

Do us all a favor and cut Marathon out too. You're just as pathetic as 343i.

What a waste of potential. Do they even have the money to make Destiny 3? They certainly don't have the talent.
I remember playing Destiny 1 and despite all the jank and missing stuff, I still had a sparkle of "Its not perfect, but this could really be something special! I can't want for what the future holds for Destiny, imagine all the cool shit they can do!". And then we played Destiny 2, stayed for like the first expansion and gave up.

Reminder that Activision had a part ownership of Destiny in the beginning and even sent a team to help them when they were struggling.
And after a while they just sold them their part of the IP to Bungie back to them.

Lemme repeat - It was so bad that Activision didn't care about it enough to keep it. You know shit was bad behind the scenes.
This was 7 years ago, but they knew it all along, this would never make money. And Sony just bought them because they are shit at assessing value.

It really could have been genuinely one of the greats, easily. They have interesting lore, great gameplay, good visuals.
But you can tell money became a big deal to then and all they cared about was "maximizing sharehold value".

welp. it was a good run, and man it sucked watching retards ruin this franchise that i started playing as a retarded teen in 2014

The story and characters are sophomoric lore/backstory vessels with sudden bursts of dynamic character work.

If I’m not making sense imagine if Bilbo or Frodo were side-characters who kept explaining why they won’t go on adventures because they’re comfortable within the Hobbit way of life. It’s logically-consistent characterization but not at all imaginative or innately dramatic. Bilbo deciding to go with the dwarves and Frodo deciding to bear the ring, when it would be so easy not to, is why they deserve the time we’re asked to invest on them. The bucolic splendor of the Shire, or where Cayde got his guns, (in isolation) are not what anyone cares about.

Datto released a video. And he's actually crying in it. Actual sobs and sniffles.

I mean, not sure what he expected, last time I saw videos from him a LOT of years ago, he was always trying to pivot from Destiny.
If he expected anything other than the game dying that's on him.

Also I always thought he was a shit content creator, his editing is absolutely balls and he just put minimal effort into videos. There's a ton of more talented creators out there putting in the work. But he did that one raid once really good so I guess hes an authority figure on the game forever.
