Think about it. All Bane wants to do was make Gotham pay. Gotham City was left in shambles and economic turmoil after Harvey Dent went apeshit and became Two-Face. A stronger supervillian is needed for Gotham City. Bane was ambitious and took Batman and shattered his spine. Without Bane, Joker wouldn't have such good critical standing. The Dark Knight Rises served a purpose, to bring darkness and drama back to capeshit movies. The only reason why people are so ashamed of Bane is how Baneposters did, not what Bane was trying to do. If the means were better, people would be lauding him.

Bane may have been raised by the darkness and molded by it, a big guy for you (and I mean that in the way that one views The Dark Knight Rises like one views any other capeshit movie) thought, a painkiller addict, and a supervillain, but from an objective standpoint, one could say that Bane was a supervillain of good intention.

What if Bane never existed, but was actually just the manifestation of CIA's repressed lust for big guys?

He couldn't swallow his pride and admit to what he truly wanted, and that repression ended up killing him inside.
