Did satanists exist historically before fag larpers took their name, like with paganism?

All modern satanist practices are largely based off of modern texts (like this one) and have no real historical backing. This isn't too surprising as the inquisition's job was to eradicate satanic groups throughout the middle ages.

If you want to get conspiratorial though there's a lot of evidence of the knights templar bringing back satanic idols and worshiping baphomet in secret and some people believe the practice continues in secret today. As well as that some people believe the Catholic church, the free masons and other groups to be old school satanists.

But yeah all of the people nowadays who openly identify as satanists are all larping fags, same with pagans.

In terms of atheist Satanism no, that's completely modern. Religious Satanism is definitely possible among Christian heresies, dualistic Christian Gnostic religions, Manichaeism and Zoroastrianism could lead to groups worshipping the evil, material god in exchange for material benefits. Pretty much if there's an evil power equal to and struggling with the good, you'll have people who want to back the evil side.

Most other considered Satanism or witchcraft are either intentional as a protest about abuses in the Church, old pagan folk traditions that survived the death of the religion associated with them, distorted understanding of Islam, or even just plain stories made up by people to scare each other around the fire.

If anything people in the Middle Ages loved a good campfire story or legend more than before or since.

If you mean luciferianism then yes. If you actually mean satanism then no its fairly recent and its pretty much just a group meant to provoke christians. Luciferian beliefs existed before catholisim was even created, christians basically just renamed them.

Judaism can be seen as a reactionary religion. It was shaped by various groups who resisted submitting to the dominant Imperial Religion, adopting the identity of the people whom the Romans accused of crucifying Jesus. This resistance led to the emergence of many different sects within Judaism.

Over time, a distinct Jewish ethnicity began to form, particularly as a result of the Church prohibiting Christians from marrying non-Christians. However, Jews still share a common ancestry with Europeans. Following the Middle Ages, Judaism underwent significant reforms, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries, and has since diverged from the traditions that began around 300 AD.

Even within the framework of the Torah and Bible, there are several breaks in Jewish continuity. By the time of the Jesus myth, there were so many disruptions in ethnic continuity, Hellenistic influences, and the diversity of Jewish practices that it’s hard to define Biblical Judaism as a single, unified religion.

Ironically, today the concept of a Jewish identity is primarily upheld by conservative Jews, evangelical Christians, and of course by the anti-Semites who believe in Kabbalistic conspiracies.

Modern Satanism is basically a knock off of Aleister Crowleys thelema ideals of just doing what ever the hell you want with even more occult larping so your not gonna find those type from before him.
For historical Satanism in the middle ages Christians sure killed a fuck ton of people they claim where satanist and witches but its debatable weither any actually worshiped satan or where just caught up in paranoid witch hunt or some Templar needed an excuse for the guy they just cut down. Historical Satanism is basically just witchcraft, people just asking satan for power, so maybe there really where people worshiping satan to try to make the sheriff of Orléans shot him self with a crossbow but it pretty debatable.

They have as much “proof” that Satan exists as much as God so if they want to “believe in” a being who only wants to bring other human beings suffering, including themselves, frankly that’s a symptom of a mental illness

satanism is just the other side of the coin. If you accept satan as a thing then you accept god as well. Except you reject god and christ teaching. Modern satanism is just angry contrarian people who grew up in christian religious households and have never left their "fuck you mom n dad" phase.

A lot of the satanist worship today is just faggot atheists abusing freedom of religion to get laws and shit they want passed.

There have been edgy boys all throughout history. Some sects of Christian Gnosticism came pretty close to the line in that they believed God the Father to be a malevolent entity and Lucifer righteous in his rebellion. I would not go outright and say that they worshiped Lucifer himself, but then it is hard to say since the Gnostic Cults were heavily repressed by the Church and much of their scripture burned. So their actual theology is known mostly second hand, and could be embellished.
