I watched it last week and it was really good. Tom Cruise killed it and thankfully I went in without spoilers, which made the twist all the better. If you do watch it in theatres, I recommend you do it in the biggest screen available.
I’m really impressed they managed to make a climate apocalypse without going full libtard. Subverting the whole “orange man and billionaire bad” style of satire film into criticizing the audiences themselves watching was fantastic.
Also they were dangerously close to saying “nigger” a couple times.

This is going to be this generation's Heaven's Gate.

By that I mean a movie produced by an Oscar winning director who followed it up with a huge self-indulgent film that bombed so hard it indirectly caused two major film studios to merge (United Artists into MGM in Heaven's Gates case, Paramount and Warner for Digger's case)

I question who thought this was a good idea. If it was an A24 film with a tenth of the budget, it would be looked on more favorably, but the way I see it, it lacked mass-market appeal. You're either turned off by the concept at the start or it's just disappointing.

Tom is just really fishing for an oscar. He is getting up there in years and this whole movie really feels like its him trying to appeal to Hollywood's fancy as much as possible.

Also John Goodman looks so unhealthy, despite having lost weight. But its kind of clear that he didnt lose it naturally and it was all the result of weight loss drugs, giving him a rather "flappy" look. Didnt help he lost all that weight when he is already middle aged so it looks even worse.

I thought it was really good. It is definitely the modern Heaven's Gate because it will only be remembered for being such a horrendous flop. I don't know why nobody wants to see it, it's not like it's five hours long like Heaven's Gate was.

If he hadn't lost the weight, he would be dead. I have had that motherfucker in my celebrity death pool every year for like 2 decades, and he just keeps on living.

I hated this movie, it feels like the big plot twist should have not been shown 20 mins in the movie! It's in my top 5 worst movies I've seen made this year.

The story as I understand it is that's a satire of real events in universe that is justified because it gives the audience catharsis. Essentially the character the actors are playing are all gross caricatures as confirmed by Digger Rockwell's nephews, but it gives the audience as target to hate. Yeah. Tom Cruise is great but the character he's playing is in service to playing a strawman to justify revisionist history, which is something entities like the BBC already believe is the correct orthodoxy. It's a very surreal film, but unlike Doctor Strangelove, the absurdity isn't an insight into a flawed humanity, it's justifying a convenient lie. It's another film that advocates for immorality without realizing it.

I loved this movie, then I heard it cost possibly a hundred and eighty million dollars. So then I loved it even more, because that's really funny.

Needed someone like Armando Iannucci (The Death of Stalin) to go over the script and make it funny.

I'd like to see another series of Time Trumpet. What's he even doing these days? And Chris Morris, where's he?

Tom Cruise puts in a decent performance but the film itself is a really, REALLY on-the-nose satire of climate alarmists. Good satire needs a degree of subtlety to work but Iñárritu either seems to think that subtlety is for cowards or else that his audience will be too dumb to grasp the message if he doesn't metaphorically punch them in the face with it.

I heard people compare it to Doctor Strangelove, how accurate is that?

Lets all kill ourselves at the icecaps to see Digger in heaven
It's like Strangelove in that in the Digger plot all the characters act cartoonish like they're not even realistic. It's basically a huge theme in the film that Digger is so outlandish and a buffoon you can't take him seriously. Think of every Texan oilman billionaire depicted in fiction and times that by a hundred. Even JR from Dallas looks fucking realistic compared to him. That's the problem I have with the film Tom Cruise is doing a good job for the character but he's purposely overacting in a meta way both in the film and obviously at Inaratu's direction. It's overwhelming and tiring. It's a slog of a film to get through.

Tldr: every character is a parody of how real humans act because the director is a commie faggot and doesn't get nuance and subtlety.

PS: Digger is supposed to be some hybrid of GW Bush and Trump and it gets old really quickly.
