Discogs has been known as an amazing tool for vinyl collectors however it has gone under some controversy for several massive flaws from the ever increasing prices of international shipping of vinyls to buyers having a hard time determining if the seller is a scam artist. For me, it was a site I used to like until I got a reality check from it's toxic community. Many people have become upset with Discogs changes and updates and many of those who used Discogs to buy Vinyl's have mentioned how doing these actions are now to expensive for them. Anyone can edit the database like Wikipedia, however, like Wikipedia, it dictates the narrative of a certain person or release.

Many people have made videos about the flaws of Discogs and how it effected them negatively. Here are a few examples.

I only go there to look up specific releases to make sure the shit I download from RuTracker are the first pressings and not some gay remasters butchered by the loudness war.

Vinyls are an inferior medium anyway. CD's and digital audio would be the king if not for the kikes like Rick Rubin that misused it's potential.

Then how come people are always saying Vinyls have the best audio quality?

I stopped using it for wax after realising how artificially inflated the prices were. Flippers arbitrarily dictate value, which leads to a trickle-down effect as brick and mortar stores often use discogs rates to price their inventory.

When I ran a label there was a guy who used to buy multiple copies of different releases and promptly put them on discogs for $200 each. There was no reason for it whatsoever, especially since I still had lots of inventory readily available.

The great (and ironic) thing about vinyl exploding in popularity is that CDs are quite literally pennies on the dollar. I've got most of Nick Cave's discography on CD and I don't think I spent even close to $50 for it in total.

That's the only thing I use 'scogs for nowadays, snagging CDs and cataloging my collection.

Then how come people are always saying Vinyls have the best audio quality?
It's because of this paradox where because the vinyl is an inferior format, kikes like Rick Rubin can't just say to compress the living shit out of the record because it wouldn't physically play, so the masters that are made for the vinyl actually end up having better dynamic range because of that. This is basically the same issue as with modern gaming, the technology is insanely great and has amazing capabilities, but they're all wasted by corporate greed and stupidity.

However vinyls are still an inferior format because of that. Prone to all kinds of data loss due to the fact that the audio is written as physical grooves on the record that can get damaged, and also because of that the sound quality can be ruined by mere dust in the grooves. And that aforementioned inferiority which limits the dynamic range.

CD's on the other hand aren't susceptible to physical damage like that, they can achieve better audio quality that won't deteriorate, and also offer insane dynamic range which when used right can lead to a phenomenally sounding record which wouldn't be achievable on a vinyl.

In short: people say vinyls sound better because it's faults stop the music industry from sabotaging the audio quality on vinyl albums, whereas on objectively superior CD's/digital audio they completely destroy it because execs don't know shit about audio nor do they care for it.

Even shorter: Digital audio fell victim to the loudness wars. Vinyl's inferiority saved it from that fate.

Also an interesting fact about the website is if anyone adds the artists information on there, it's there forever but the artist has no right to manage it in any way similar to Wikipedia's rules (Which would've been fair if it were truthful but has been abused to further one's narrative).

Needless to say, many artists are not happy about it.

I knew that someone will make a thread on Discogs. As a tiny contributor for 4 years on this site, I've encountered users sperging around edits on different releases many such cases as abusing the power as a super-contributor (or however it's called). The most autistic thing I've encountered so far is by the Romanian user "glass" who intentionally added ethereal and darkwave as a sub-genre for a manele (gypsy music) album because it feels the mood. The thing is that I listened to one of the songs "glass" listed as darkwave and it didn't resemble either darkwave or ethereal, it's just manele recorded on terrible quality reel to reel tapes.
An example of sperging.

Discogs has a CIP program for those who makes edits like this but sometimes block them from editing entirely. Don't get me wrong though. The community of discogs is one of the worst I've ever seen, So any embarrassing details about them, I'd post it here, And this post is a good example of the fallacies of the website.

I'll post more information about the sites shenanigans such as banning sales of "extremist" physical records and such. Here's a forum post from 2016 explaining what I mean.

The pain has been especially acute for international sellers who’ve long made a business of shipping records to foreign countries. Max Stei, a.k.a. “Maxwelll,” a seller based in Bonn, Germany, gripes that the European Union has made it mandatory to purchase packaging licenses (essentially, fees that pay for the collection, sorting, and recycling of the packaging), which has eliminated his sales to most EU countries.

That's the first time I have ever heard of this.
