A strange phenomenon i've come across is that americans dont seem to butter their breads. What i mean by that is putting butter on your bread. Now i was flabbergasted. How could you not put butter on your bread? Its the way you're supposed to eat it. First comes the bread. Then comes the butter. And then comes the ham or cheese or maybe a mix of both or some other topping ontop of the butter. In Europe everyone i know of atleast butters their breads. We grew up buttering breads. Everyone butters breads. The stores butters breads. I couldnt even imagine eating a bread without butter on it. So. Americans do you really not butter your bread? Why? Have you ever buttered your bread and if so what were your thoughts on the buttered bread? I am very curious.

If you're talking about just toast with butter on it then yes people do that. On the other hand buttering bread you're going to use for a sandwich is rather unusual.

I can understand now why Americans are starting to lose their lead in the global obesity race when other countries are revolutionizing fatness tech like this.

Wait, so, does the butter add flavor to the sandwich? Or is it just to adhere the sandwich fillings to the bread?

Are you saying you put butter on a sandwich? Like a normal cold sandwich? What the fuck?
Yes. That is how all English speaking people make a standard sandwich: bread + butter + whatever other condiments or fillings you like.

If you think that's weird, in Australia they butter BOTH slices of bread for your sandwich, which I find excessive.

Wait, so, does the butter add flavor to the sandwich?
Yes. Obviously.

I'm unsurprised that Americans don't know about this. Your palates are so jaded that you can only taste overly-strong flavours like burnt coffee and bbq sauce made with HFCS.

We do, when it's appropriate.

Its the way you're supposed to eat it. First comes the bread. Then comes the butter.
So far, so good.

And then comes the ham or cheese or maybe a mix of both or some other topping ontop of the butter.
No!

Plain bread? Yes, butter is great. Heated sandwiches? Yes. Cold? Nah, unnecessary.

No, many of us actually like the taste of the bread/ meat/ cheese/ vegetables/ herbs without needing extra from butter (or mayo, for that matter).

What the fuck. No. I don't put butter on every piece of bread I use for food. Why the fuck would I use butter on a cold cut?

Additionally, in America, we have different breads, which require different fats. For instance, if I'm making an Italian dish, fuck no I'm not going to butter the bread I serve with it, I'm going to provide olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip the bread in, like a fucking human.

The Br*tish were a mistake. Gott strafe England.

Listen for all you Angl*ids, ex-convict Angl*ids, sheep-fucking Angl*ids and Leafs who make up the Commonwealth, this is how it works in 'Merica:
-Sandwich bread gets mayo, mustard, or 8 billion other things that are spreadable instead of butter
-Toast gets buttered, because the heat melts it
-When some of us are copying your continental betters and having open-faced cheese sandwiches with wine as a fancy appetizer or picnic or whatever, maybe, MAYBE butter will be spread over the baguette, but we aren't going to pull it straight out of the fridge, that's some poverty-tier shit.
