Do we have a duty to support "local businesses"? - "Think of the Starbucks"

One big argument I've seen against work from home is "think of the restaurants" because they acquired property near an office complex under the assumption that people would be too tired/lazy to cook for themselves and eat out. A lot of financial institutions deem a certain amount of your income should be spent on local amenities when determining leases/rent/mortgages.

So are you a traitor to your community if you prepare your meals at home? What about other things, like (mostly) doing your own laundry?

Do whatever the fuck you want. America was supposed to be a free country that way.

That was until most businesses have become owned by like a dozen or so companies and the only alternatives are owned by an inept government.

You should feel duty bound to being a good person, whatever that means to you. That is it.

Fuck no, though it's best to support local businesses if they provide the same goods/services that megacorps do

The "support your local community" step here is to look at where you're getting your ingredients. Are you paying Walmart, or a mom and pop shop? Were your ingredients grown and made in state, or imported from across the globe?

Doing things yourself doesn't mean you're contributing to the globohomo.

You don't have to, but it is in general a good principle to love thy neighbor and be involved with your local community. Tucker had a segment on it

It depends. If the local business has good product and reasonable prices, I'd say yes. If it's some hipster selling organic bullshit for insane markup, they can fuck off.

There is no obligation to commute to work to support the economy unless you get a COL increase to make up for inflation and high gas prices. We already pay taxes, fuck on outta here shaking me down for more.

I saved 38.5+ thousand dollars in 2+ years of not going out and eating in restaurants.

As far as supporting the community...
Does it support me?
If it does then go right ahead and help your community. If your community does not support you well then you don't support them as well.

Nothing is for free. I've learned that the hard way.

"Supporting a local business" means going to a local joint instead of a chain or franchise. It doesn't mean going to a local joint instead of cooking at home. That's a weirdly...uh...what's the word for it? Extreme? It's like, you don't have to go that far.

Like, there's a subway in town and a local drive in grill. If I feel like eating something quick and not great for me, I'm going to go to Pete's, not the huge franchise with teenagers that get my order wrong 40% of the time.

There's no obligation or duty to support local businesses. If you feel so inclined to visit one go right on ahead. There's a gunshop I visit every so often and every time I go I at least buy a new mag or something because I like the place.

I want to say yes, but the biggest local business in my town has been doing small scale Blackrock property monopoly shit for years. Not every local business is mom and pop. Plus, online just has better selection. I've tried buying certain things locally only to find out that the price AND quality were both shit compared to what I could get on Amazon.

So in theory, it's a good idea. In practice, it doesn't always work out that way.
