Do you put syrup on your pancakes before or after you cut them up?

Put lots of syrup on the cakes before cutting, with enough of a puddle around them on the plate so that if there's a bite at some point that doesn't have enough, you can dip. Going back for more syrup halfway through eating feels too decadent.
Oh and have some sort of protein too, to keep blood sugar from yo-yo-ing.
